So i brought ear plugs today i tried to get them in but they won't work. I followed the instructions in the video as well. I rolled them to their smallest size and still the ear plug won't fully go into my ear. Are the ear plugs too big??
@Hanhzie I don't know what plugs you purchased so it is difficult to say. It could be you have a very tiny or convoluted earcanal, or that you are still not properly following the instructions, or that the plug you purchased is too large or otherwise not suitable. If you are still having difficuty please contact me though the Ask the Expert link at the website indicated at the end of the video.
You can put plugs in so they cause discomfort, but unlikely that you will cause damage to your ear. See EARLog 19 available on the same website as this video. Please contact Sweda re Sweda plugs. With any earcanal it is possible to have discomfort. Try different plugs. The E-A-R™ E-Z-Fit™ and Classic™ small (Amigo) would be good choices. Find with Google search. Earmuffs are not good for sleeping. However if you want to try them, check out Peltor Optime™ 95 or 98 Find with Google search.
I find when I push the plug in deeply the plug begins to hurt my ear. Can you put plugs in to deeply???? I'm using normal foam earplugs made by Sweda.
Could another reason for the pain in my ear be that my ear canal is to narrow. I'd like to buy your E_A_R_E_Z_Fit or classic small but I can't find your website. What is your URL???
Also could you recommend good ear muffs that wont come off when sleeping.
Please read "Tips and Tools for fitting and using foam earplugs" and see p.6 under problems. The document is found on the Booklets page of the same web site where you found this video.
You get it that far down the earcanal by carefully following all of the instructions in the video. However the insertion will not be that deep in ALL earcanals. Canals that are narrower, or in ears where the pinna/concha (that is the external part of the ear on the side of your head) is smaller, the plug may not go in as deeply or appear to be as well seated. For smaller earcanals we have the E-A-R E-Z-Fit and the Classic Small that may suit you better.
Depends on how loud "him" is talking. Even a perfectly fitted earplug or earmuff does not block all sound. It will reduce it by about the level of a solid well-sealed door. Thus, depending on the loudness of sounds and the sensitivity of your hearing, you can still hear. If you want to experience blockage of almost all speech try wearing an earmuff over a well-fitted foam earplug.
Not all foam earplugs have the same expansion rates (recovery times). In addition certain materials such as the vinyl plugs like the Classics made by 3M will be less susceptible to changes in relative humidity that can affect the expansion characteristics of other types of foam. You will have to shop around and find what works best for you. The good news is that foam earplugs are inexpensive enough that you can try a variety until you find what you like.
This method definitely takes some practice to get the hang of, but now that I have, the earplugs feel much better and block out significantly more noise. I can't believe these kind of instructions aren't included on the packaging of foam earplugs. A link to this video should be included with every pair of earplugs sold!
Top video. I've been inserting my ear plugs totally wrong for over a quarter of a century. Maybe I won't have to kill my neighbour after all now that I know what the hell I'm doing.
You may indeed have ears that are difficult to fit and may want to try other plugs, or maybe no plug at all will work for you. However, I encourage you to try working with the direction of your pinna pull as often that is the key. You may even want a friend to look in your ear with a penlight while you pull on your pinna to let you know the best direction for tugging.
Shaieli1 - for some reason I could not reply directly to your post. My response to your concern about inserting too deeply is:
It is possible, but uncommon, to put a foam plug in so far that it is difficult to remove with your finger tips. However, this does not cause any harm to the ear. Please download Tips & Tools on this page
Information on reusing the 3M Classic foam earplug can be found at FAQ12 under Hearing Protection on this pagewww.e-a-r.com/hearingconservation/faq_main.cfm
Wow! this is goood! i dont know how to use...and the earplugs i bought dont have description...thanks for ur information! no wonder when i put in..it come out back..XD and can anyone answer me..i see that he pushed the earplugs too inside...will it stuck in the ear? im just curious and scared...:D
Hi I read some reviews on ear plugs online before I bought one. And on Amazon, the Moldex Pura-Fit 6800 had 18 reviews of 5 stars ratings. I totally bought into it. I bought them. The whole box came in with 200 pairs. I used one and it made almost no difference to my hearing. I live in a noisy city. Traffic is 24/7. What kind of ear plug would you suggest? Or maybe even expensive ones. I am for a good quality over quantity.
@liveovertherainbow The pura-fit is a reasonable earplug. You may have better success with a vinyl foam earplug like the Classic or Classic Small. My guess is the problem is not following the instructions in the video. Please watch it and do EXACTLY what it says

Is it definitely safe to stick them so far into the ear? That looks kinda risky to me...
