There is a market collapse occurring. There is also a reason why your comment is marked with a bunch of thumbs down. During a market crash commodities increase in value because due to inflation. Gold is a commodity, a physical asset. It will not disappear as the market plummets. Stocks will reach zero and many other forms of capital (such as real estate) becomes illiquid.

It is not a felony to destroy a federal reserve note. It isn't government issued currency. The only criminal statute that exists on the subject of defacing or destroying currency is:
Title 18, United States Code, Section 331
The statute basically states that it is only a criminal offense if the intend to deface the currency is to commit fraud.
