Thanks for the review. I have been a long time Ubuntu fan, but have recently started looking for something else due to performance issues with Ubuntu 11.04 and 11.10 on my iMac (video tearing, choppiness when dragging windows around etc). I installed Elementary OS Jupiter and absolutely love it. No more video or window dragging tearing issues!! A bit odd not being able to copy stuff to the desktop, but I don't miss it so far. Love what happens when you press F4 in a picture directory :)
@teenbeauty10 you ok? did you lose any data? how did you install it?,,is the pc running windows along with elementary?? sorry for asking a lot of questions, the more i know, the better i can help you...
Well i think i'll make a good review.. i like it because u can put ur desktop the way u want and u can add what software u want instead of having default stuff so u can built it up to your liking.. i like it.. :)
Wow, this is just pathetic. It took the Elementary team forever to release this and this is it?? I would rather install Ubuntu 10.10, remove what I don't want, and install the Elementary theme. You can't even change the GNOME panel, soo restricted..
You only talk about what it cant do, but you dont talk about what it CAN do. Altime you talk about the "Desktop" thing. YOU DONT HAVE A DESKTOP IN ELEMENTARY" you understand that?... look in the forum, talk in IRC for questions, and dont expect things, that are not part of our goals.
@ReinkarnationX16 True,I was unaware that Elementary has no desktop, but in the video by doing what just about any other user would do,I discovered that I could not move folders/files around in a convenient/intuitive manner,A new user may put off by this, and go back to something else, with out seconded thought, and thats how i felt as a first impression. So i guess you got to take the good with the bad,so thats why i think the OS is ok.
to make things clear: the panel is locked down, so users can not easily "destroy" it, with tons of icons, or move sth to a location, you dont want. Of course flash is not included becouse its not opensource! moonOS is doing much things wrong IMHO. Not any app is self programmed by the programmers. And it does call "Ubuntu Software-Centre" "moonOS Software Centre", or sth like that. That is not the right name. This name is wrong, becouse such a software center does not exist.
@ReinkarnationX16 It true that moonOS is has its flaws and so does every other os out there, but with elementary's apps being so well thought out and with great art design, with functionality,It was a huge bummer for me,to see the desktop being so locked down to the point that workflow became a issue.I do LOVE elementary and I do wish for them to become the next big thing,Isee this as a BETA,I do encourage people to try it.During install there was a option to choose flash, moon felt friendlier.
@ikeluther lol ok,I think the new one is called NEAK..I would look on youtube for some reviews and see what they have to say as well,,,,Just in case..
@ikeluther your welcome, but i still feel that Moon os has more to offer, but only time will tell with Elementary. I see this release more as a BETA than a final..
@MrMassivemanmeat Yes, a beta version, that's what I thougt When I saw your video. I haven't tried Moon Os yet, but I will. Do you think that Moon Os is good for a netbook? For now, Pinguy Os is installed on my eee PC. It's ok, but I'd like to try something else.
@ikeluther I have not yet tried Pinguy,The thing I like about moon os is that they are trying to push portable app's so that apps are self contained and can be run from a folder,,its still new,and the ROOT file system is modified for ease of use,So thats why i like moon over elementary,Its not just a re-themed Ubuntu,Its been well thought out from a technical stand point and a user stand point. Its not a netbook os,but i looks a lot like elementary os but with functionality.
@darrencahir as of now,,i have been using for about 10hr or so,I still feel that its just ok.I will not be using this full time on my laptop. As of now I think Linux Mint does a better job at re-spinning Ubuntu for new users,Elementary does not come with flash or other extras,I love elementary apps and nautilus elementary, but the desktop/os I'am just not feeling it yet..maybe the next release will replace my Ubuntu,,thats if i dont like the new Unity interface.

Thank you for this video :)
Well... Mmm, I'm kind of disappointed. As you said it, it's locked down. A bit far of the Linux philosophy :/
I've downloaded the image disc, so I'll give it a try but, yeah, I'm already disappointed.

Thanks for the good video. I now know there's no point to this distro, and to stay with regular Ubuntu.
