I was 5 yrs old living on Littlefield just south of 7 Mile Rd. I never realized that the riots had come that close to where we lived. I remember troops patrolling the streets, and my folks already had a suitcase packed unless we had to flee. Some of our black neighbors got up on their roofs with guns.
Hey everyone. I want you to know that I really appreciate the feedback and interest. I also want to apologize about not having the rest of the series up yet. I put this together mostly on my own (a one man Ken Burns if you will) and managed to pull it off having never done anything like it before.
I will get the rest of the series up in the next week. Any and all feedback is appreciated once all of you hear the entire 2 hours and 36 minutes.
Thanks! I was three years old living in Warren when the riot happened. This event shaped so much of my life growing up, from the nature of the city to the attitudes of my family, friends and neighbors. Many relatives were still living in the city or Hamtramck at the time, but most were gone shortly after. I don't remember much about the riot except that my dad and uncles took turns staying at my grandparents' house (with their guns as I found out later).
If the rest of this program isn't going to be posted, can someone please tell me where I can hear the rest of this or perhaps purchase a CD of the program?? This is very good and I very much want to hear the end. Thanks!!
waketheherd- do you still live in Michigan? Amazing collection of memories. Was it hard to find these people. Good job.
