  • this is epic dude

  • How was the paint superimposed over the video?

  • @onlyandrewn Each painting was on a clear sheet of acetate, and then scanned. The white background was keyed out in Aftereffects.

In our more recent project Letters, the scanner background was deleted manually instead of keyed, which was more time consuming but produced better results.

  • this is beautiful !

  • I love this...and to think, I stumbled upon this video by accident on another website. This is definitely going in my "favourites".

  • I was travelling home on the subway

When a vision got on at Summerhill

And as I casually eyed the classifieds

She sat down next to me

Every face in the carriage was wondering

I replied with a smile and a wink

While I slipped into the arms of Morpheus

To daydream the rest of the way

Very nice video. (Anne, I happen to know that your dad is very proud of you. So am I. u.j.)

  • This is a lovely short film (not to mention a lovely original soundtrack)!

Also, Summerhill is my station! I get on and off there every day to go to and from my house! I think the effect of the film was magnified by the closeness I feel with that station (it's so familiar to me).

    Great job!

  • I felt bliss and heartbreak in the brief duration of your video and can't bring myself to stop watching it. The music is perfect and I hope you do more with it (or at least release the mp3).

Have you considered doing a subway series? Every station has a story to tell and you did this one wonderfully.

  • re: station stories

my mom saw this and she told me about when she was a kid and her mom took her to the doctor, they took the subway.

The doctor's office was at Davisville, and every stop approaching it was filled with anxiety. She recalled to me how she would look up two stops before her destination, see the word "Summerhill" and feel the relief of not being there yet.

She still feels that way about it.

She still feels bitterly toward Davisville, too.

    Thanks for the kind words,

    Anne

  • I aagree with rlissner!! Every station does have a story to tell! I go from Islington to St. George everyday to get to school...I would love to see a video from you guys that is set in Islington Station...or even Museum because that one is my personal favourite just because the architecture is so beautiful.

  • That really was elegantly beautiful ... sad, romantic and hopeful at the same time. And somehow it feels just right for Christmas. Anyone who knows Toronto and the Summerhill Station has usually given some thought to its tiny pefection and quietude ... it's from a different era when the city was smaller and more peaceful. Can someone please tell me what the musical accompianment was? I love that piece.

  • Thank you! We composed and recorded the music.

  • Really? The music is yours? I swear I've heard it somewhere else ... I hope no one is copping your copyright!

  • nice idea. well done.

  • this is beautiful.
