Well, he is the Pumplin King after all, so he has to look scary. I think the drawings show respect to the original art, simply giving it a personal view. And that's not insulting, it's the base of fanart.

You don't seem to be a huge fan of the movie, in my opinion you look more like a fundamentalist uncapable to admit anything slightly different from the original.
