@JessicaAkAAdiz See if you think about it, abusing someone SO much that the almost die, then let them live and repeat it is worse than killing him. Killing him would let him win. Cause she wouldn't have no one to torture and he would be freed of his misery.

@haleighrachel I think she had 3 or 4 or 2 ? can't remember . But when David left , His youngest brother Richard was the new "It" and the mother started abusing him like she abused David.
way to go dave most people in your position would end up in drugs with serious problems but you have shined through all this and brought awareness to this issue no one should ever have to suffer through that and i admire the courage and tenacity it takes to come forward and say no more to speak out about the horrors being inflicted on the countless innocent children in this world they are a gift from god and there is no return policy so people should think long and hard before they have one
to david i use to think i had it bad till some one told ur story than is when i relized it could have been so much worse there where days that me and my sister didnt eat my mother sold her body to do the best she could she had her downs where all she wanted to was drugs she told us it was because she didnt want to feel the pain it was hard on her she tried living on the streets not knowing whats to come the next day i do want to say im sorry and i WOULD HAVE HELP YOU THE BEST I COULD THANK U

He is definitely an inspiration! Gives hope! Unfortunately a person I know actually used his book for a reference on what to do to kids! So very sad! The doctor who initially assessed the kids said it was the worst case in the 12 years she had been working with severely abused children.
In my class we had to give a book report on a book we thought other's would enjoy, and my friend (not saying name), had told this book... She said of his mother's "Games," and things she did to him....I was crying only 2 minutes into her report thinking, "who would do such a thing?" @VermilionSteed Uh, I don't know the exact date and haven't read the books for awhile. But I remember from reading the last one that he died when Dave was a adult and stuff. I forgot how though -.- I think it was from being sick
@RockinAndrea prob from all tht beer. And she was sick before. How could someone neglect their own child, and the child not go tell everone at skewl to arrest his mother. I dnt get it.
@VermilionSteed Spring '92 he saw she still had her Christmas decorations on show. In California ( ?! ) He realised there was something in her giving up. Think she died that year or the next.
@RockinAndrea she ought to burn . how could ANYBODY do this to a young boy. this makes me want to cry. i seriously cried when i saw how sick this lady was.
I met this man in Kearney, Nebraska at a book signing. He is truly phenomenal and is living proof, we are not defined by others but instead we make our own way and define who we are by our own actions. Thank God for Dave! ♥
I have read all Dave's books within days. I just could not put them down. I just could not understand how a mother to be so cruel to a child. I cried so much reading the first few pages of his first book. It was the saddest book I have ever read. He truly is a hero.
I have read two or three of his books and they were very touching!Once I started reading it I couldnt stop.It felt like i was in the book as dave, like I felt the pain that he felt.It was a truly amazing experiance.I even had people in my class asking me where i got the books!
i just dont understand how people can go through life and be abused... i read all of his books and i loved them there is not 1 book i got through without crying and i honestly am so proud of him i cant imagine the suffering he went through all that tourcher and pain !!!! it is just terriable i honer DAVE PEZLER for being as brave as possiable and for using all his strength to survive!!!! i just cant understand y she would do that to him!!! its just terrifying knowing there are people like that !
its so wrong i think that nothing happened to the mom there werent any laws about until after daves case it was like she could of killed him and nothing happened that made me so made when my teacher told me that
when i read the book, i felt his pain.. and i am glad my parents treat me like i should be treated. I cried at many many times. A child called "IT" is VERY popular at my school. When i was reading it at school.. i started crying... it was happy at the begining.... but then his whole life turned upside down...
well its good hes not making the same mistake ! i heard by a guy also had to go through like what dave did and he told me that those who gets beatin up by their parents do the same to their kids when they grow up ! not kidding !
such an amazing man, i read 'a child called it' in one day!! i just coudlnt put it down, the whole trilogy of books is just so beautiful. if their is one man i would like to hug, it would be david pelzer. the way the story is told, just makes the reader so involved. I wanted to reach out and hold his hand and tell him hes gonna be ok. to be honest i wished the last book " a man named dave" that he loved himself a bit more, if only he knew the magnitude of the positive impact his life has had.
And they were all great books his mother was horrible person it's a shame she died so peacefully in her sleep wow i hope shes burning in hell right now. And if anyones messed up its his brothers they want nothing to do with Dave they feel he ruined the "Family" by telling the "Family Secret" and Dave still wants to see them again. He is an amazing person and a hero in my eyes.
i have a question:wel i have ready only the first book (i have m]been meaning to read the next one)and it was soo sad it broke my heart and if this is the 3th worst case then wats the first?!wats worse than wat he went through??
I accidentaly read one of his books and im glad I did. after reading one of his books i felt like crying, its reall tragic how he wasnt loved by his mother. (Dave is my hero i wish the best for him)
I think every teenager should read this book. I read this book over and over again. It's like my 8th time and each time has a more powerful impact that the other. Dave is truly an inspiration. He makes me thankful for everything my mother has given me. For the clothes on my back, the food in my stomach and the roof over my head. In fact everytime I read this book I'm inspired to go out and do something. Its sad but it's encouraging and powerful all in the same. I thank dave for inspiring a 15...
I encourage every teen (I don't think any kid should read this though, until they are old enough and mature enough to really understand it) who thinks they have it sooo bad because they get grounded or no tv, etc for doing wrong to pick up this book and realize how good you have it. I've read the whole set and as a parent myself I am thoroughly disgusted at this woman. People like her should be forcibly sterilized.
@sporkqueenrhaya :i read it wen i was a kid and it made me look at a world in a whole different way....i was 10.....which was his age and......it changed evry thing i thought about and how i thought as about it
OMG i saw this guy last night he was doing a 1 hour presentation on "motivating young adults" it was GREAT. So thankful for him to come to our small city of Ridgecrest, CA. his presentation was great, it was straight to the point and almost everything he pointed out was true. I also got to shake his hand :)
I love the child called "It" book I finished the first book now im in the middle o the second one The Lost Boy I love this book!!!! To tell you the truth I never loved a book like i did his books I will read the next book , too Never read and finished a book before im not lying never read other books but this book is awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
God I can't imagine a person in that could even make up such a horrible story. MY heart goes out to him completely. I know sometimes I say things to my mom but until I read this book I never knew how good I have it. I am so blessed to have a mother who loves me. May God have mercy on Dave's mother's soul.
Even though im a 14 year old male this made me feel so sad and I cryed for 2 hours while reading this book... I was truly touched to know how bad some have it and the worst of it all is we dont even know it happens... Read this book... it will change your life for ever...especially if your in 9th grade like me
I cried all the way through reading this book, i'm just so glad he was saved and didn't have to go through it anymore. It just makes you think how strong humans can be, going through all that and coming out alive, i mean having to drink ammonia AND being stabbed? He is one incredible, strong human being. God bless.
When you read A Brother's Journey by Richard Pelzer, he explains why he also abused David and why he always set him up. It was his mother who made him and he was very afraid of her so he used his brother as a shield to keep his mom away. She made him be her little Nazi as David described him in his first book.
His mother was such a sociopath. She was capable of being nice but she could be mean if she wanted to, she abused one child but was nice to her four boys. She may have been mentally ill but when a child gets abused, it's hard to have sympathy for them. She should have been locked in a mental hospital. Richard, aka Russell claims in his book "A teenager's Journey" she was a schizophrenic. Oh yeah after David was taken, she went after Richard and abused him.
actually, i pity the whole famiy. his mother was mentally sick, so we cannot blame her. she used to be soooooo kind. yes, dave is a very strong boy, and a man.
Dave is the most mentally tough people i have ever hear of, laying on a gas stove while your back melts, there is no way i would make it through one second of that, Dave you are many peoples' favorite hero. by far
hey ive read the first two books they are great and ive looked into his story alot and found his brother also wrote a book its also very good its called A BROTHERS JOURNEY BY RICHARD PELZER
he actually talks about how he watched when his mother "accidentally" stabs dave
dis is my favrioute book im still reading the lost boy im nearly finished just for reading this book i would like to yake the job of social services and try my hardest to rescue children that went threw pain and sufering like what dave did
Yeah my mum had the book "My Story" by Dave Pelzer which contained all 3 books in 1. Such a sad & tragic childhood .. but a triumphant and up-lifting ending =]

People like her should be forcibly sterilized.
sporkqueenrhaya 2 years ago 4
@sporkqueenrhaya :i read it wen i was a kid and it made me look at a world in a whole different way....i was 10.....which was his age and......it changed evry thing i thought about and how i thought as about it

OMG i saw this guy last night he was doing a 1 hour presentation on "motivating young adults" it was GREAT. So thankful for him to come to our small city of Ridgecrest, CA. his presentation was great, it was straight to the point and almost everything he pointed out was true. I also got to shake his hand :)

God I can't imagine a person in that could even make up such a horrible story. MY heart goes out to him completely. I know sometimes I say things to my mom but until I read this book I never knew how good I have it. I am so blessed to have a mother who loves me. May God have mercy on Dave's mother's soul.

SpokaneGirl85 2 years ago
His mother was such a sociopath. She was capable of being nice but she could be mean if she wanted to, she abused one child but was nice to her four boys. She may have been mentally ill but when a child gets abused, it's hard to have sympathy for them. She should have been locked in a mental hospital. Richard, aka Russell claims in his book "A teenager's Journey" she was a schizophrenic. Oh yeah after David was taken, she went after Richard and abused him.
SpokaneGirl85 2 years ago
actually, i pity the whole famiy. his mother was mentally sick, so we cannot blame her. she used to be soooooo kind. yes, dave is a very strong boy, and a man.
MsRafillah 2 years ago
Dave is the most mentally tough people i have ever hear of, laying on a gas stove while your back melts, there is no way i would make it through one second of that, Dave you are many peoples' favorite hero. by far
