watts good everybody i'm an aspiring 18 year old producer and rapper and i HATE to sound like a spammer but if you have 2 min of free time i promise you won't be disappoint in the REAL hip hop i have on my page... i'd appreciate any and ALL feedback
first off I'm 40 y.o. so I remember when this first came out. This ish still bang harder than most tracks you hear out now. Damn i wish the love and fun in old school hip hop would come back. SMH!!!!!!!!
Where the hell was I at when this jam was out?! I mean, my love of music began in 1990 when I was 15 years old, but more 1970s R&B til the beginning of the 90s. Sure, I remembered De La Soul, ATCQ, the Pharcyde, but I was more into acts like After 7, Portrait, Boyz II Men, Jodeci, to name a few. It wasn't until I went into the military in late 1993 that my love of early hip-hop began (ATCQ's MIDNIGHT MARAUDERS). But for some reason or another, I missed this tune! How that happened, I don't know.
I like it better when 3:42-4:01 is just the Bar-Kays "na na na na na na na" and not that bass beat... That's the original... Is there some reason why I can't find that version on youtube? Besides the obvious?...
@ CTC that is such ignorant thing to say that the midwest and the south fuckd up hip hop. when common, j-dilla, bone thugs, twista, kanye west, outkast, 2 live crew, three 6 mafia and scarface all southern and midwest artists that has all made a HUGE impact on the rap indrusty as a whole. And isnt Nicki Minaj from from NY? and the new boys and college boys from cali? INDIVIDUALS in the game fucked it up not a region
@royesco90 drop that science for those who dont know or are to ignorant to do research before they spill ignorant thoughts on the internet like a glass of water on a keyboard
@CTCstoopid Who in the midwest screwed it up? I wouldn't blame it on a region. I'd blame it on the internet. Cause the internet singlehandedly gave talentless people a voice in music. But again royesco90 is right... There are plenty of legends from the south and midwest. Actually you know what. Lil Wayne singlehandedly destroyed hip hop.
I didn't realize that was the Pointer Sisters in there. I guess that's what being a good producer does, go outside the box and switch it up. I wish todays rappers knew what a high hat is...
While none of these songs are all that uncommon, or deep... It takes a real producer to bring it all together this nicely. Prince Paul is a GENIUS when it comes to working out the samples.
@jason22000 damn just notced all of em your a genious if you knew by hearing it alone and every real head knows pauls one of the dopest to do it just glad to see alot of real headz showing love to the man
@MGSmokedout I knew all of them except the Michael Jackson (and only because my dubbed copy of "Off The Wall" from when I was a kid didn't include that song for some reason). The others are all pretty common samples throughout hip-hop.
A great website for sample information is the-breaks (dot) com
@jason22000 yea really the mj one i never noticed im not a big de la fan but i loved this beat n good looking out on the website i make beats also so i like to know which producers flipped what sample n try to flip em differently check out my page whenever you get a chance not trying to spam either
He man, as you obviously know your samples (respect!), I was wondering if you also know in which song the 'ah one two ah one two' from this song is sampled... I just KNOW I've heard it before but I just can't find where. I was thinking maybe a Nas track but haven't found it yet.
@Obstacle21 I'm not sure where it came from, but I think it kinda sounds like Dres from Black Sheep. I know Biz Markie did a "Ah 1,2. Ah 1,2." in "Make the Music With Your Mouth Biz", but it sounds NOTHING like this. I also know that Sneaker Pimps sampled the same "Ah 1,2. Ah 1,2." for their song "Six Underground" (they might have jacked it from THIS as a matter of fact).
@jason22000 Dude, deep respect, your knowledge even extends beyond hiphop. Great coincidence cause as a matter of fact I own four Sneaker Pimps albums and found out last week the track in my head was indeed Six Underground, in my ears exactly the same sample... However weird Chris Corner & consorts are by the way, if it is indeed the same sample the guys got their music knowledge dówn.
I guess you know how it feels if something like this nags you for days and then you finally find it:)

@jason22000 I always make my own drum loops... but i have always wanted to try to make a beat from a drum loop sample... it's dope man... i LOVE hip hop!!
@CypheredSoul I don't think it's a sample... If you look at some of the other comments, we discussed the "1-2, ah 1-2", and although it is the same rhythm that Biz did... It is CLEARLY not Biz's voice. Biz has a rhaspy voice with a lisp... The "1-2, ah 1-2" in this song is a higher male voice and no lisp (although it's tough to tell a lisp when there is no "s" sound). Kinda sounds like Dres from Black Sheep if you ask me.
@jason22000 I'm a huge Michael Jackson fan. To add to your comment, I love when a producer can make that deep underground "boom-bap" sound from sampling someone as widely known as Michael Jackson, e.g. the beat Oh No made from "Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough." As you said, it's genius.
Thank you so much for posting these instrumentals.. History was written when these beats were made.

Smokey Robinson - Quiet Storm (hook)
Pointer Sisters - Yes We Can Can (drums)
Bar-Kays - Sang And Dance (na na na na chant)
I can put some beats together, but I'm MILES behind this kind of magical beats!
Big thumbs up Prince Paul!!!
