  • If its the deadliest animal ever how come it stung him yet he just put vinegar on it. Also he is bearfooted and a jellyfich could easily sting him on his feet

  • Its not like the jellyfish are trying to do this to people, they don't even have a brain for crying out loud. You might as well get angry at a plant.

  • "You can make a mistake (and die), you can... but do you wrap yourself up in cotton wool and sit at home?"

  • I would be scared shitless

  • If you get stung, is the pain local, or spread out to the entire body?

  • "cut the tentacles as close to the body as you can"

    "here?"

    "no a little bit lower"

    lol

  • will the jellyfish survive if they cut off its tentacles?

  • Here is a good poem about jellyfish:

    I don't like jellyfish

    They're not a fish they're just a blob

they don't have scales and fins like a cod

they go about their buisness stinging people in the sea

and no one likes jellyfish with chips and mushy peas.

    get rid of them.

  • I was hit by Jellyfish when i was 20 years old in Grece and that pain was unreal... OMG i will never forgett that day in my life.. I still alive thank lord was "doctor same area on holidy and she helped me =)

  • ill tell you what, if reincarnation is true, i want to come back as a box jelly....no one or anything will mess with you

  • this is some scary shiiznietz!!! LMFAO yeh i got stung by a normal jellyfish once (dead one) YEH HURT LIKE HELL!! :L yeh im prettuy bad ass ~.~ LMFAO JKS

  • I would shit in my pants

  • R.I.P Steve.

  • scariest vid on youtube

  • Im gonna name my son Chironex

    This is too badass

  • I've heard this is the most venomous animal in the world, but what poisonous animal, if it attacks, is the deadliest for a victim and for what reason. (eg. there is no antivenom) I'm not asking what poisonous animal kills the most people.

  • Sea turtles can eat them. I say breed more sea turtles. What the hell are jelly fish good for anyways?

  • claims at least one australian life a year? well good thing im not australian XD

  • So this is why Australian men are attractive..they are crazy enough to dive into water filled with Box Jellyfish. And if they get stung-it's no biggie for them.

  • dead in 1 and a half minutes? Really? It can't be. How is anyone allowed in the water if it's pretty much instant death after getting stung?

  • @utarian7 yeah really 1 and a half minutes.. we have people like Jamie go out along the beaches to check for jellies and we also have stinger nets which we swim in at all of our beaches for about half the year.. they also drag net the beaches to check for the more deadly jellyfish..

  • PSYCH!

  • i was unlucky enough to be hit with one on holiday the pain hits you instantly, and if i wasnt as fit as i was, i was a dead man. i nearly lost a leg years back and had burns to my legs , but that pain was nothing take your worst ever pain treble it an your nowhere near violently sick heart palpatations feels as if heart was about too burst

  • I am a little bit uncertian if Chironex fleckeri realy should be classified as the most venomous organism on earth, look at 2:05 he got a small sting and just added some vinegar on an then continued to work ....however if the same thing happend and it was an Irukandji that stung him he would be rushed to a hospital with pain that is much much greater and would hold on for many days! ...So a small sting form an Chirinex fleckeri is nothing compaired with a small sting for an Irukandji or!?

  • @MrrrMagoo Yeah you've definetily got a point there, but on the other hand if you get hit by 2-3 meters of tentacles from a Chironex fleckeri you might die within minutes. So it's pretty hard to say, their venom works in different ways. I'd say they're about equal.

  • @NikerW: Well ok, I see how you meen, but if one gets stung by the equal of 2-3 m of tentacles of an Irukandji (equal to perhaps 50 of these animals, if swum into a shoal of them).....would not that immense level of pain induced leed to almost immediate heart kolaps, burst of blood vessels etc etc. .....I have also read that the irukandji-syndrom (when beeing stung) has been noted in other places not only in Australia but also in some parts of America and also in europe...So I fear Iru. more

  • @MrrrMagoo Yeah you're absolutely right, didn't think of it that way first, but yeah that amount of venom from irukandjis would probably be lethal almost instantly aswell. It will be interesting to find out more about it's venom later on. And yeah i definetily fear the iru more too, it's been seen as far north as in Great britain i've heard and it's probably the only animal that makes think twice about going scubadiving on the great barrier reef. scary but yet incredibly fascinating,

  • @NikerW: Ok well I am not an expert so I might be wrong, but it´s good that you see how I ment :-). Btw, do you know any go webbsite where I can read about this type of research and other things about marinbiology?

  • @MrrrMagoo I know Jamie personally and he absolutely without a doubt knows his Jellyfish and if he says that its the Chironex Fleckeri then it is.. and he did get stung there and it did hurt him but he has been stung so many times... its almost part of his job.. just because he isnt outwardly in pain doesnt mean that a normal person in his situation wouldnt be i excruciating pain...

  • @KelBell001: Of course he knows these jellyfish I don´t doubt that a second!!! :-)....But the word "venomous" is a value-laden word and even professors and PHD:s in toxicology world define it differntly. Is an organism venomous becasuse it´s toxin 1) inflicts an incompairable amount of pain, 2) or because it directly damage organs, tissue, neves, blood vessels etc., but not fatally 3) it shuts down essential systems, cellular respiration etc. unable survival of the victom or 4) (1+2+3)?

  • @KelBell001: I don´t meen to be rude or impolite by saing this I just wanted to tell that the word "venomous" is not easyly defined......but that is also what make this field (toxic marin life) interesting aswell. Again, I have big respect for Dr. Jamie Seymour he knows his field! :-)

A nice review in this topic is: Biochemical and molecular characterisation of cubozoan protein toxins. Not by Dr. Seymour, but anyway. ;-) /Regards

  • I hope in the future scientist would make a virus which will kill these jellyfish, they don't do anything for human

  • @KirillKrasov Wow that's so typical human egoism... The jelly fish is just a animal that listens to it's instincts. Humans kill more animals every year then all the worlds animals do together! We do not own earth, we need to find a way to keep people from dying from these animals, but saying that they have to die because they don't do people any good, OMG!!! I sometimes feel ashamed to be human.

  • No way!

It has no mind it only eats, it can't do anything good for anything, it only does a harm!

  • @KirillKrasov and your point is that it has to die because it doesn't care about fashion, or sex, or what star is fucking another? Humans do more harm every day than a box jellyfish does its whole life.

  • @MalinMunther that's right it don't think about fashion

  • i live in mission beach too, but in california -.-

  • baha i live in mission beach!

  • Silly man, the world's most venomous snake isn't the Inland Taipan, it's the Belcher's Sea Snake.

  • everybody who calls Australia home knows not to fuck with this thing.

  • do ya wrap yourself up in cotton wool and sit at home and have money saved up to last you the rest of your life and a servant who goes out to get you what you need (wife or husband) yes please lool

  • This guy has nuts of fuckin steel! I'd like to see Chuck Norris fuck with that mother fucker!

  • lol jells fish are cunts .... absolute wankers tiddlywinks98712 u fuckin legend lmao

  • Box jellyfish have four morphologically different types of eye. Two of these eye types, called the upper and lower lens eyes, are camera type eyes with spherical fish-like lenses

and scientist also hav performed many tests and there results hav found that box jellyfish and other jellyfish species are colour blind

    :D

  • We'll Jellyfish dont really have eyes soo @_@ they dont know where they are or where there heading.. IM SO HAPPY THAT THERES SEA TURTLES TO EAT THEM HELL YA!

  • Box jellyfish actually have 4 eyes but no brain but they stll have a way (scientists are unsure of) to see where they are going and what they are doing

  • @xoxo2cutet4uXXX box jellys have 12 eyes

  • what a tard. that guy is gonna die

  • @tiddlywinks98712 fuck the jellyfish!

  • @tiddlywinks98712 thats what steve irwin thought about stingrays before he got impaled 2 bad the president of australia got killed by a stingray, just a horrible incident if u got stung by a box jellyfish you would be the cunt bro

  • A man get stunged by a box-jellyfish.

    Search Youtube:

A Glimpse Of Eternity Part 1 box jellyfish

  • A friend of mine told me he met a guy a few years back who was hit by one of those things and survived, he was close to shore and somehow they got vinegar on him immediately which suposedly kills the venom, but he said it was like getting your skin constantly burned with a blowtorch, that`s how bad the pain is. Can you imagine? I mean just put your hand over a candle for a few seconds, now imagine it over a blowtorch. When I heard that, I was F- that, the only swimming I do now is in a pool.

  • Your friend was lucky to escape death.

The vinegar doesnt do anything to the venom. All it does is stop any unfired stingers from firing and making it worse, but it doesnt do anything about the ones that have already fired off their venom.

  • @Edhallick Oi Edhallick,

i got chased by a shark when i was 7 , i was surfing (ignoring the warnings)

But i surf everyday now so theres nothing to worry bout just respecct the ocean itll respect you.

    José

  • Vinegar wont save you, it only neutralises stingers not ALREADY fired on the skin. There is nothing to do except get to medical attention as fast as possible for the venom already inside you.

And if you get caught accross the legs with a good length of stingers, say wrapped around your legs, you would be good to even reach shore. Being dead within 2 minutes.

  • @Edhallick That is a dead on description. Initially I thought a shark was sinking its teeth into my calf and starting screaming(super embarrassing) - felt like I was being tazed. Happened to me three months ago - the pain was so intense I messed up my TMJ from clenching my jaw with pain. I was surfing in my hometown - NSB(sharkbite capital) Florida and was stung by a jellyfish I'd never heard of that was supposed to reside across an entr Ocean from me. fml The swarm was there only 4 days .

  • @Edhallick well actually the vinegar is suppose to kill all the stingers that didnt shoot yet like the venom did not come out yet but if it already shot off then theres nothing you can do about it....

  • @Edhallick I would not swim if there was a box jelly fish in the water

  • still like the irish accent better

  • When he cut the tenticals off would that off killed the jellyfish? and also to jellyfish think like other animals or not?

  • It can't hunt without its tenticles, can it?

  • It doesn't have a brain.

  • you don't have a brain

  • they dont really have brains

  • can u say painful! JEEZ

  • the most dangerous animal in the whole animal kingdom is a little frog fro the tropical forest of Colombia, one drop of its venom its enough to kill dozens of people

  • Actually that's numvber 2, a box jellyfish has the most powerfull venom in the world.

  • You're referring to the Poison Dart Frog, and it is NOT the most dangerous.

  • a inland taipan snake can kill 100 people with one bite, or 250,000 mice.

  • good point, get out there and do it.

  • Poor jellyfish. just floating there, relaxing and playing it all cool and BAM, the evil men get you.

  • Scary shit, one flaw and you're dead

  • This guys a monster, is he even afraid of pain, people have died from the pain alone and begged doctors to kill them, whats this guys name?

  • who jamie seymore?hes a jellyfish expert, and like it said de venom can be helpfull to humans

  • Holy crap, that guy is a Beast! Damn

  • holy shit man with his bare fucken hands!

  • wa...he didnt die from the jelly's attack..he is very careful i guess

  • hes got my utmost respect

  • Did u c my other box jelly uploads ? .... he is a very interesting guy .... all the 'big' names in research seem to have featured him.
