i am really happy they actually went out to speak on behave of the people, but it seemed as if the representative of Congress woman Anna G. Eshoo, didn't really care what they had to say. That's just my opinion.
Well done on the demo. If you want to know everything there is to know about monopolies and why they're at the bottom of just about all things bad, read Henry George's "Progress and Poverty," available free on the Internet. It also handily includes how wealth can be distributed equitably. In fact George solved just about everything economic. Too bad so few people are actually interested enough to learn it.
Exactly! The government should not be educating us. That has failed. Think about it. Those in office tell us we need to spend more money on public schools, yet they send their kids to private schools. I know many homeschooled students and they are smarter than public students. Government run public schools have failed!
As Michael Moore adeptly points out in his movie "Sicko" - would you like to privatize Police and Fire Departments as well? When you need emergency services like this, should you have to go through a third party to seek approval to receive what is necessary for life and limb on demand?
Healthcare is a right in every other civilized country around the world. Imagine in America when families can not go bankrupt from getting sick, and where people live longer, happier and more productive lives.
The overpriced healthcare is due to corporatism, and bad regulation by our govt. I don't care if other countries have free healthcare. The taxes are unbelievable high and the quality of care is terrible in those who have it. The government is trying to take full control over our lives, from cradle to grave... NO THANKS!
What people fail to understand is that by the time individuals in society add up all the money they pay to big insurance companies and unregulated drug companies, the percentage is higher than any tax being assessed in any of these other countries. Quality of care is higher abroad because doctors have incentives to provide better care - they're actually rewarded for this! We've tried corporate medicine, now its time for it to be for the people, by the people.
It is for the people by the people... now its going to be for the big pharma, long lines, and higher taxes. You can't raise the deficit by 12% and not expect HIGHER TAXES!!!! More taxes means you need to work more for the beneficial factor. That's wrong.
I am in favor of a free healthcare option, however, we need to first prosper and people would be willing to donate to nonprofit organizations that will help the needy. It's voluntarism, not corporatism.
the public option is not actually a "free" option. The public option in current health care reform bills would be financed similarly to private health insurance companies -- by premiums from those who are enrolled
What happens when one's house is on fire? Do they not have a right to a fire department coming to their aid? Or in your mind they ought to get 'pre-approval' for services, and/or search around for the most competitive bid to put out the fire?
That is a service provided by the government and/or local citizens and it is a privilege. You can put out the fire or you can let it burn, either way it is your choice but you cannot require someone else to help you.
Like I said, no one has a right to another person's services. We might enjoy the service and it might be a really good thing, but a right to another person's services is slavery.
You said it best my friend, it is "a service provided by the government," by the people for the good of the people and no it is not a privilege it is a right, paid for by our tax dollars. And no doctors or pharmaceutical companies work for free and are not indentured servants as you put it, but are paid well and thus rewarded for helping people.
A right is something that you have whether the government exists or not. In the absence of government, you lose your fire department. Thus it is not a right. Governments are there to protect our rights, not provide them. They provide services which are privileges to have thanks to tax dollars.
If health care was a right, you can demand anyone to help you and they would have no other choice. Since they can deny you help, it is not a right. If they must serve you, they are slaves to you.
It is true that rights are inalienable, although we rely on government to uphold these rights and provide basic services to enable our pursuit of liberty, justice and happiness. Thus police and fire departments exist not as a privilege that can be granted or taken away, but as an underlying thread of social obligations that we are entitled to from our tax dollars. You don't demand a fire brigade when the house is burning, they come to you and lay their lives on the line for you.
They are a part of a social obligation, but not a right. You might have an obligation, but you don't have to fulfill it.
To quote Ron Paul on this, "The government can't give you the right to health care, because the government has nothing. Thus the government must take it from someone else." I have no problem with insurance companies. I have no problem with non-profit co-ops. I do have a problem with the government telling me you have to purchase something you don't need or else.
Totally respect your opinion and stance on wishing to prevent Orwillian controls over life and limb, but perhaps we can agree to disagree on the metaphor of 'taking' things from others where nothing exists, and rather switching the logic to 'giving' as part of our social contract.
I think there is an alternative solution to this problem which satisfies both of our desires.
What if we repealed the ban on insurance companies across state lines and then created a national non-profit co-op? This would directly replace the public option and yet still allow millions more to have health insurance. Tell me your thoughts?
Like the idea of the national non-profit co-op and regulating the health insurance industry so they can no longer deny or revoke coverage. But the national co-op really is a public option, because it's intent would be to allow everyone to find safe and secure medical care when they need it (without going broke).
You understood it exactly how I wanted it to sound.
It is the public option turned private. It is designed to be a direct substitution that fits both of our wants. You want non-profit and I want no legalized theft. This is what you would call "a free market solution". I can't think of anyone who wouldn't like this idea besides people banking on abusing the government's public option.
Is it moral for health insurance to be denied due to a pre-existing condition? Or for Americans to go bankrupt due to medical bills? It's great if you work for the drug companies and insurance lobby, but the rest of us are ready for real morality - which is compassionate health care for all.
Health care does not include federal funding for abortions. We support tax dollars to help your family in time of medical need, and most of all to provide preventative care so you and your family can be healthy. Rather give this to you than to a few very rich individuals at the top of a pyramid.
Yes the bill is long but a worthwhile read and there is nothing in there that changes the federal government stance on paying for abortion. If you are provided gourmet health care by your employer that's great, you won't have to change a thing. However like most Americans who are paying continually higher prices for lesser services, & can be tossed out of coverage in a time of need - we rather support universal health care.
I am a physician and I support the public option!

Moore tries to explain ideology in a small movie. Seriously you need to break away from his documentaries, they are not accurate at all!
[explaining privatization of police and fire in a small youtube comment is impossible]
