@tmack1337 Kyletrue is correct however that the performance of this piece is indeed very Baroque. My educated speculation is this may be very close to an idealistic performance of the work during the time it was written. You can hear the Baroque style in both this performance, as well as the piece itself. Keep in mind though that the fundamentals of the piece are the basis of what would evolve into Romantic music. But still many conventions of it are Baroque and Queyras captures that perfectly.
@tmack1337, I would actually argue that when looked at from it's most true essence, this piece is NOT exactly baroque. Many of the ideas that make real "Baroque" music what it was had already been long dead by the end of JS Bach's life, and definitely when this piece was written. This is a transitional piece, into the Romantic period, rather, where ideas like personal projection crossed with public accessibility were stressed.
The GDYO is playing this for our first concert. I play bass for the Philharmonic section of GDYO. Thats the Greater Dallas Youth Orchestra for those who didn't know.
Incredible... Jean-Guihen Queyras makes this sound like cake. Arguably better then yo-yo man, Rastropovich or even Jacqueline Du Pre. I prefer his interpretation over all of theirs. Hopefully someday after learning this concerto will I sound as great.
if only the cadenza was notated, i wouldn't have to learn it by ear!

@chiangee13 I think I prefer his interpretation too, but I don't like the word "better". Too different to compare

Man, this orchestra sounds like nails on a chalkboard. Queyras is the whole show, really.

Not everyone likes period instruments in classical era music. :) But I certainly do.

Harmonico, do you have him playing the D major? =)

I sure do! However, some movements are ten minutes, so some splicing might need to be done.

That's ok! I really should buy his CD anyway. It would be well worth the investment ;)
