  • @LilShorteeakaDeezy try anything between 1976-1988 in punk.

  • I heard this from sven coop

  • This song just gets better every time I hear. It's an epic song and yet it's under 3 minutes long. I get chills when I listen to the outro. Quiet simply, one of the best rock songs ever written.

  • I was 24 ! That song is still in my mind since 17 years ! A rock'n roll MASTER PIECE !

  • @bo2web whats it like hitting 30? and beyond.. does it suck?

  • @TheThroney Yes it does.

  • This song was the first thing I woke up to after a certain particularly horrible event in my life.... now I'm stuck on it. <3

  • pure genius

  • my name is Alec

  • Song references French engineer Alexandre Gustave Eiffel, who designed the Eiffel Tower; Pixies frontman Black Francis thought it was a "fascinating subject" to compose a song about. Francis also mentioned another meaning of the song: "Because of Alexandre Gustave Eiffel, but also because it's funny: in Australia, you often say 'It's a smart Alec' for a guy who's nice but not very bright."However, the usage of the term "Smart Alec" is to denote someone who makes wisecracks or a know-it-all.

  • @ramezp To add to this, Black Francis thought it was a "fascinating subject" to compose a song about because, when the Eiffel tower was built it was frowned upon and mainly viewed as an eye sore. Which later became a national monument for the entire country of France. I believe that this song symbolizes the growth of the Pixies. Miss understood in their time, but later growing to become a legend.

  • I love this song but don't understand why it's called Alec Eiffel and not Gustave Eiffel ? Anyone has the reason ?

  • The Pixies were just about the greatest rock pioneers of their time. They might have drawn influences from The Clash and The Ramones but their sound is uniquely their own. Every cd outside of Trompe Le Monde (which this song comes from) is absolutely great.

  • i like the first half on the song

  • i like the second half of the song. Do you wanna Share?

  • @nonodont i agree, its brilliant.

  • Anfangs grossartig, zum Ende hin - mhm?!? (Das Stück war länger, als

  • I love Frank black ;)

  • I know what you mean. There's just something about him...

  • the arch of triumph. the arch of triumph : ) lemme know if you get it. the arch of triumph...

  • Sometimes people can be Oh So Dense.

  • Good Lord, for you younger ones posting here making "sounds like" comments about Clash and Ramones, please realize Pixies were extremely influential punk band of the late 80's/early 90's..Do yourself a favor and listen to more of their albums and maybe Frank Black's solo stuff. Example: Kurt Cobain said we was afraid "Smells Like Teen Spirit" sounded too much like a Pixies song. Listen to Pixies' "Gouge Away" (awesome tune) then to SLTS and see if you agree.....

  • gouge away is my pixies favourite but it never reminded me of slts, or vise versa

  • This is also my favourite Pixies song. I love the great surf guitar riff and the quite emotional, "...see you beneath the archway of aerodynamics" outro. Chokes me up, don't know why.

  • Totally agree!

  • I luv this song so much! It's my favorite Pixies song XD

  • God I love this song. Thanks for the post!!!

  • very cool. Reminds me of the Clash

  • I would say Ramones

  • i could see that

  • Maaaaaaaybe the Clash... but really? Ramones?

  • boo : ( sounds like the goddamn pixies. watch the gouge documentary or buy surfer rosa.

  • alright, calm down

  • yes!

  • great great song

  • I Love Pixies.. Thank You~
