  • Is there any particular age for doing deviated nasal septum surgery?

  • @hackrider1994 Dear HACK:There is no age criteria for correcting a medically necessary deviated nasal septum. However, commonly this procedure is deferred until full maturation. Again commonly performed for females not before the ages of 13 or 14 and males after 15 years old. Severe trauma cases a surgeon may opt to correct at an earlier age.

  • I broke my nose about 2 years ago. The left side of my nostril is always moist, and the right is almost always dry, with knowing that the carlidge is flexable I've decided to cut straws into small pieces, lube a small piece with chapstick and crank it in the side I can't really breathe from, (the dry side) and put cleanex in the left side so it drys out. The chapstick lubed straw has been straigtening out the septum, although it won't ever be 100% normal.. Atleast I've not gone for surgery.

  • @xxRavenxShadexx Your problem sounds awful and your home remedy treatment may be very dangerous. Mechanical opening of the nasal airway by breath rite strips or "nasal cones" are acceptable non surgical treatments but impracticable for most patients. Proper surgical repair by an experienced surgeon might be a safer and better may to improve your quality of life. Good luck BTSMD

  • i also have a deviated nose...but my mom is against the surgery because many people say the surgery is not so effective...if you have sinusitis which is almost always accompained by deviaiton it could get worse because you will have then problems with sinuses...to operate or not to operate, that is the question!

  • @ilkagx Evaulation by an experienced nasal surgeon usually helps to determine whether you are a candidate for the surgery. These surgeries are usually very successful in over 90% of all patients who undergo the procedure. Nasal septal surgery is probably over 95% effective. Sinus surgery failures are patient's who have a combination of severe polyps, asthma and aspirin sensitivity.

  • Can anyone tell me if this is an outpatient procedure?

  • @bonzoscarpetcleaning I had this done 10years ago, I had both sides opened, reset and totally repaired. After a few days my doctor pulled out a giant tampon grom each nostril & cut out a giant piece of plastic that she made to fit my nostils (both sides). She said I was the worst case she had ever seen, totally obstructed.. I can now breathe! Medicaid paid for it. painful as all get out but well worth it.

  • @bonzoscarpetcleaning Yes . Usually this is an outpatient procedure unless underlying medical conditions ( sleep apnea, heart problems, severe asthma) require an over night stay to monitor breathing and heart problems.

  • I had a deviated septum, so I had this procedure (including turbinate reduction). Surgery was 30-45mins max. I felt pretty darn good when they wheeled me in, and when it was over, I had a nose cast. The 1st two days you do have "nose leakage" but as far as pain goes, never beyond 2/10. If you need this, DO IT! You won't regret it!

  • @Spinny78 You also had correction of external nasal deformities (rhinoplasty) either for cosmetic or functional reasons.

  • @NoseMD I didn't have rhinoplasty (nose job). Trust me, I wish I would have :)

  • @Spinny78 i have the same problem that u had and i am seeing the doctor for it. Today was my first day of showing him my problem and he is going to give me an x ray for my nose. i feel very sacred thow because i don't to end up adding to the problem or even distorting my nose. my external nose image is actually very nice it. no one could really notice that my deviation, but i think that my breathing would be much better. and i also feel that the left part of my nose is usually moist.

  • @LIFEandPOWER Please fix it. I encourage it! I lived with a deviated septum for 10+ yrs without knowing it! I thought that Afrin and nost strips were the solution, boy was I wrong. I had to stop Afrin (I was apparently addicted to it, according to my ENT doc). Had to use steroids and go cold turkey for 14 days before surgery. I have never used it since.

  • @Spinny78 thx for the encouragement. I have a deviated septum today I actually took and X ray and I saw that my nose bone is actually placed wrong after I had my acident. Thx to God I breath well and everything, my nose looks beautiful and its not distorted but it will be better to do thesurgery because we humans always eek to better ourselves. Unfortunately I live in a place called isreal, but I am an arab, Palestinian to be exact and this kind of surgery is considered a plastic surgery

  • @Spinny78 not a reconstruction surgery for something that was messed up by life. So because of all what I have mentioned this surgery is a plastic surgery that is not coverd by insurance and I am still 20 and 11 months and still a university student so i dont really have the moeny to pay for it, even thought this is not actually a plastic surgery because I am not actually changing my appearance, I am trying to fix my nose they it was before the accident. plus the surgery in isreal coasts like

  • @Spinny78 8 thousand shakel's which is like saying if we are payed by dollars it may coast like 4 thousand dollares for something isn't really a plastic surgery. Today the doctor was very rude and he thought that I wouldn't stand up for him. He told me that he will not do it because thats a plastic surgert not medical. He also said that he will take some of the parts inside the noseso I can breath better which I do breath very fine but it would be better for me to breath if he did correct my

  • @Spinny78 my broken dislocated bone from my nose. stupid doctors.

  • So how much exactly does this cost?

And also, is this for an actual hole in your septum or just a septum that is crooked/withered away?

  • Get it done, it's well worth it, seriously, no pain really, just conjestion! Fully reccomend it! I can sleep with my mouth shut at last!

  • This surgery is free under medicare (AUS)

  • I had septoplasty done 1.5 years ago. Recently, I have to go to see doctors due to a recurring nasal congestion, especially my right nostril. The doctors are telling me that my septum is deviated to the right! However, prior to the surgery, my septum was deviated to the left. Plus, I have been having a weird sensation on my right nostril. Is this all normal or the surgery itself was an unsuccessful one? Thanks.

  • @kalijasin If proper documentation is made indicating medical necessity.

  • Just had this done, if you are about to have it done, I was surprised how little it hurt! seriously, I had no pain at all! The 'oozing' is a bit of a buggar for 2 days, but after that its all good! So, don't stress, the worst bit is the injection, which doesn't hurt much either as the anethnatist does it day in day out! Hope this post makes you less stressed! Oh, and my nose is straighter too! Bonus!

  • @jofomofo1 Nice BTSMD

  • @jofomofo1 hi how much was this surgery? if i wont get this done im just gonna hit my nose with a hammer .... im tired of this shit i hate my nose :(

  • how do doctors test for allergies to general anestitic? i have to have this done in my pre op before this operation?

  • @Stevea715 see allergist. Many agents used during general anesthesia. First a good history to determine if indeed you have an allergy and not just a side effect.

  • does this also help the appearance of the nose on the outside if the nose is slightly crooked?

  • @CatandFreddie Usually not. Internal surgery is functional. To correct the external nose other procedures are required.

  • @CatandFreddie I would think so, my doctor said it will slighty correct the nose, because a bone is sticking slightly to one side and I have a small bothering crookness to my left nasal so yea. becuase its pressing to one nostril more so in some cases it could? gettin my done on Oct 20

  • @CatandFreddie It could. Septoplasty is internal reconstruction. Rhinoplasty is external reconstruction which can be done at the same time to correct external problems

  • Had this over a year ago and honestly it's the best decision of my life, breathing is vastly improved! Fair warning though, the first few weeks will be uncomfortable, but I probably had more issue with the post anesthesia nausea that the actual soreness.

  • just found out i have a deviated septim and need surgery... not looking forward to this.

  • @mikebuck421 Don't let it freak you out. I refrained from doing ANY research or watching video's before my surgery so I wouldn't freak out. I had a deviated septum repaired and polyps removed 3 weeks ago tomorrow and my nose is clearer than EVER and I can smell! I couldnt breathe or smell since i was 6 and I'm 19 now.

  • My ENT specialist recommended a septoplasty to improve/normalize my breathing. Does insurance cover some/all the expenses or do I have to pay for this procedure? Thank you for any advice!

  • doctor I had a deviated septum operation 6 years ago, the doctor told me my problem was caused by force trauma that left the side of septum pushed to the other side ( <----- like that, more like a letter D, but anyways from what I see in the video this persons was cut, could it also be re- broken by the doctor and straighten out?..

  • @NoseMD I am getting my turbonites, Adenoids and Septum fixed up. Will there be any hospital time required?

  • general anesthesia

  • hi sir ,what type of anesthesia did u use regularly for nasal surgeries?local /hypotensive gen/local with iv sedation?

  • omg i just realized i was holding my nose the whole time i was watching this video, as i was doing it was saying AHH OMG

  • This is really interesting to watch! I had a slight deviated septum and got surgery (also due to my sinusitis) and it's interesting to see exactly what they were doing in there, haha. It all looks so gruesome, but there was hardly any pain after. Maybe it was because my surgery was not nearly as extensive.

  • heloo Dr. i had the surgery 7 days ago , in the 5 hours after the surgery my nose and breath was fine but then it got obstructed , is it normal? will it get fine soon?

  • heloo Dr. i have made de surgery 7 days ago , in the 5 hours after the surgery my nose and breath was fine but then it got obstructed , is it normal? will it get fine soon?

  • heloo Dr. i have made de surgery 7 days ago , in the 5 hours after the surgery my nose and breath was fine but then it got obstructed , is it normal? will it get fine soon?

  • I have deviated but I don't even have the bone anymore because infection

  • @Pitbuller956 You have no nasal bone?

  • i got this surgery and my septum was so blocked that they couldnt even get septum shaved down enough i really didnt hurt much the first few days after the surgery but about day 5 it hurts sooooo bad i cant moved it what so ever or it feels like my nose is gunna fall of

and im only 14 i had to get it done early most of the time its done adults because there septum has developed completely

  • i got this surgery and my septom was so blockd that they couldnt even get septem shaved down enough i really didnt hurt much the first few days after the surgery but about day 5 it hurts sooooo bad i cant moved it what so ever or it feels like my nose is gunna fall of

  • straightening deviated nasal septum should improve breathing significantly. This procedure after trauma has limitations depending on how severely the nose was twisted. Hopefully with proper evaluation and treatment you should improve on both sides. BTS MD

  • hi, 2 weeks ago i had a broken nose.. i've done surgery on elevating process... but my left nose hardly can breath, i can only use the right side, the doc said maybe it's due to my sinus because before the trauma, i already had sinus and yes, my left side that time hardly breath too.. so, does this kind of operation helps to make both of my nostril can breath?

  • Hey doctor!

I am 17yrs old and i am planning to give National Defence Academy examinations this year.

I have broken my cartilage nose bone once and i think i have a deviated nasal septum.

As per Appendix V of UPSC examination criteria, if you have a deviated nasal septum you are not physically fit to join the army.

I am quite worried. What should i do?

    Please help me out sir!

  • I got deviated nasal septum only 4mm`s but doctors advising me to repair it. I`m scarred! :)

  • There is no medical treatment for a deviated nasal septum. Non-surgical treatments could include, breath rite strips, nasal cones, saline spray, saline irrigations, sudafed, and nasal steroid sprays. These may offer some temporary relief. If it is deemed you are symptomatic or have problems from a deviated nasal septum then the only effective treatment is surgery.

  • @NoseMD

Hi doctor; i was wondering if you ever did a correction of the deviated septum by breaking the septum and then straightening it out instead of removing parts of the septum. i heard if you end up removing too much of the septum it could create a deformity. is the other option possible in order to reduce the risk of a horse saddle shaped deformity?

  • @NoseMD i been having a twisted nose for long time as i age its getting more and now people notice it, well at least close people know it and see it. since i was 8 yrs old it stated and now im 20 yrs old and never had the surgery because i was scared and still i am and this are my following concerns

    1. will i get a scar

    2. will i look so diffrent that i wont be the same, in other words will my nose change and i will look like its not me any more

    3. is this a simple surgery? will i have pain?

  • i cant sleep anymore due to this Septum im having in my right nose its swells bad

  • i can actually smell blood just watching this, my mums friend had this done

  • oh shit. just think of how painful it would be, if you accidentally woke up.

  • Hello Doctor, Thank you for providing this insightful video.

My ENT surgeon has told me that my deviation (left) is very anterior, and as such, the best approach is via an "open septoplasty", where he will remove the front deviated strut. He has told me that it will allow him better access rather than doing a closed procedure. What is your experience with anterior deviations, do they do just as well as deviations in the middle or posterior?

  • Comment removed

  • how much is it goign to cost for my broken nose if i dont have med insurance

  • Hi, doctor :) When you close the defect in the nasal mucosa, do you stitch through the septum in order to avoid dead space or do you use packing within the nostrils?

  • @janeyanna GOOD QUESTION. I rarely pack. I rarely use splints anymore. I do us the stapler or quilting dissolvable sutures back and forth on correcting deviated nasal septum. The suturing/staplest closes dead space and prevents a hematoma. Dr Schaeffer

  • @NoseMD Thanks a lot for your reply :)

  • @NoseMD hi doctor my name Pablo Bobadilla and i been suffering with deviated septum my whole life, im 18 can you give me any tips how to fix it without surgery

  • hi

i'm getting my septoplasty done. doctor said its better if my parents fly in to my city to take care of me post surgery, is that necessary. will i be handicapped for few days after the surgery? ..........

  • hi

i'm getting my septoplasty done. doctor said its better if my parents fly in to my city to take care of me post surgery, is that necessary. will i be handicapped for few days after the surgery?

  • @musicdelife I always recommend there should be somebody with you the first 24 hrs. I see the patients the following day and patients can not drive for the first 24 hrs after surgery. Also, we recommend no heavy lifting or straining for 2 weeks after surgery (no aerobics, dancing, weight lifting,).

    Dr. Schaeffer

  • i shouldn't have watched it...no good idea

  • there wasnt alot of blood from cutting all that cartilage

  • Damn your nose would be in major pain after going through all of that cutting.

  • @phenomenom20 Hi: This is not a painful operation if performed correctly and packing is avoided. There is a stuffy sensation for several days and pain medications may be required for the first 24 hours only.

    Dr Schaeffer

  • I seriously thought that was a bloody vagina on the video's icon.

  • Wow, so thats what there going to be doing to me in the next 6 to 12 months. Well that and a turbinectomy.

  • I'm going to see a nose and neck specialist in Feb because I CAN NOT BREATHE!!! >:( I have been using nasal sprays since grade 6 (thats when it started) and now I'm grade 8 and it is getting really annoying! it feels like im plugging my own nose with my fingers on purpose but im not its SOOO ANNOYING I was wondering what u might think is wrong with my nose.

  • I am going to get a deiated septum repair surgery in dallas In spring break 2011.. I wanted to know if after enough recovery time the nose heals completely and is not weak in any way or prone to breaking as i am a boxer..My septum is deviated towards the right side and the doctor said its only 5 percent open.

  • does this operation change nose's physical appearance?

  • I just had this procedure done. Oh man the headache that I had ..and still have. I was suffering with this condition for 2 years now. I REALLY hope after all of this I will be able to breathe NORMALLY again. It hurts alot but the end result is worth it. Cheers!

  • I just had a septoplasty with turbinate reduction surgery 3 days ago. I am wondering if lightly removing the excess dried up blood in your nose by picking it out lightly with your finger could possibly push the septum back to its original place? There was such a build-up of it in my nose that it began to hurt. I don't think that picking my nose gently would push it back, but I just want to make sure. I know your not supposed to, but I can't help it. Thanks!

  • Lately I've all of a sudden been having breathing problems. Both my nostrils stay clogged if I don't use nasal spray or something. It's really bad...as if I'm plugging my own nose with my fingers like before I jump into a pool. Why did this suddenly happen? It's been 3 months now, going onto 4 months. I had to breathe through my mouth when sleeping most of the time or just not sleep at all. Is this a deviated septum? I had my nose broken when I was a child but it's never been this serious.

  • @Etiros.... It's either one of two things. If you are using nasal sprays which are decongestant sprays (afrin, oxymetazoline, Neosphehrine) for more than 3 days you are causing a rebound effect. The decongestant spray works for a few minutes then blocks your nose because it swells the lining instead of shrinking it down. Otherwise more than likely you have a sinus infection. Either way see a nose doctor. BTS MD

  • @NoseMD But I've only been using nasal sprays just recently. I haven't used the before. Would it be a sinus infection? What does that mean? One of my nostrils is always clogged; both of them are never open at the same time. Could this be a result of my nose being broken when I was younger?

  • I will make it tomorrow at 11:30 am....So help me God :D

  • If you think you might have a deviated septum and need surgery, about how much would it cost in the U.S.? I had an accident bump to the nose about a year ago and I got it fixed, but lately, I've noticed I think I may have that problem and it's been bothering me for weeks. I may have lost cartilage too. Is it safe to get it repaired again and how much would it likely be?

  • I suffer from asthma and allergies some times i get sinus pains. I been getting theses strong headaches and also neck pain I had an MRI done my doctor told me part of the results form the MRI and My doctor told me i have a deviated nasal septum and I was wondering what can cause this? because I felt he wasnt that clear with me . I would really apreciate an answer

  • @china6685 A deviated nasal septum (DNS) is caused by trauma, growth or u are just born with it. It not only can predispose you to nasal breathing problems but can lead to sinus infections (headaches, nasal discharge, difficulty with smell and taste and nose bleeds). See a specialist (sinus doctor or ENT)

    BTS MD

  • @NoseMD thank you :)

  • I think I need this but that looks extremely painful.

  • Fantastic video. Very clearly explained and thorough. Thank you.

  • i have a deviated septum and my nose is an arched nose. is the arch caused by the deviated septum? will the arch go away after i have my septoplasty done?

  • @MJandDMB4Life "arched nose" meaning the external portion of the nose has a bump on the bridge? This then requries cosmetic surgey os the nose

  • @NoseMD arched nose " meaning the external portion of the nose has a bump on the bridge? This then requires a cosmetic surgery of the nose

  • I have had this done, along with a polyp removed from my sinus, and this actually doesn't hurt as bad as it looks. The worst portion of the day is morning, just because you may have accidentally rolled over onto your nose, but the medicine the doctor prescribed me helped with most discomfort. I would do it again, improved my breathing sooo much!

  • I lived w/constant sinus infections, mouth-breathing b/c of sinus problems & nothing that was done helped. In fact, it hurt b/c I was immune to standard & many high-dose antibiotics. It wasn't until after an 8-9wk course of antibiotics & surgery for a deviated septum some 20+/-yrs ago that I had major relief! I realize med itself is better now but that surgery was the best choice I ever made. I had the deviated septum naturally & I had broken my nose a couple times so that didn't help. Gr8 now!

  • @PaisleyPlace cont'd I had the packing in both nasal sections w/the stent between the cavities. I won't lie; it was painful & uncomfortable but this procedure has improved 10000x what it was when I had it done. There was about an 80% rate of success then. I had major success tho' I may have to go back for check up as there's a vein causes sudden nosebleeds for no good reason that may need carterizing or outright removal if possible. No nose breaks since surgery so that's not a cause for bleeds.

  • After not being able to breathe for the last 20 years and using afrin severe congestion spray that whole time, I was so glad to have this surgery yesterday. An hour after the surgery I was able to breathe. I had a friend try to talk me out of it but he has been able to breathe during this 20 years so makes no sense to me. I was very nervous myself about how people talk about the pain but I haven't felt any pain yet. I am just so glad I can breathe! I feel like I made the right choice.

  • OMG F that. Jesus christ man is that the only way??? I have never been able to breathe through my nose effectively and now my dental health is going down the toilet... It just doesn't seem worth it

  • @clayto1332 a 30 minute procedure while asleep would change your life. Since i don't pack the nose, it feels like you have a cold for a few days. if you are blocked up that much, you may feel relief immediately despite being swollen after the surgery for the week.

    BTS MD

  • @NoseMD How much does this procedure usually go for

  • @clayto1332 so you mean to tell me that because you have been breathing thru your mouth...as a result your dental hygiene is suffereing? holy shit if thats true im fucked.

  • @TerribleOne718 Absolutely. Every time I see a dentist, they encourage me to get my nose fixed. I brush twice a day, floss, use mouthwash and everything and I still have gingivitis and my gums are beginning to recede on my front teeth.

  • @clayto1332 Ya my gums are starting to recede in the front too. My enamel has been wearing down as well, need to get some insurance asap

  • @TerribleOne718 Me too dude, I can't exactly drop 20 grand on this shit right now.

  • I don't get why they remove all that cartilage and what they do to replace it. Seems to me it's an integral part of the nose's structure and strength, I can't think of any artificial replacement that'd work well in its place, if there's any replacement material available at all :/

  • @sinephase First , you don't need all the cartilage and bone. You only need the caudal end and the dorsal strut.. Second, I removed the crooked part and replace it with what I took out after morselising it (straightening). This gives it some support

    BTSMD

  • @NoseMD - thanks for the reply. I'm curious if it's possible to use some kind of apparatus to train a minor crooked nose to be straight?

  • @sinephase Good question but actually you only need a small part of the cartilage to support the nose. All the rest could be removed. However, I replace a good portion of what WAS crooked and replace it , straightened, for additional support but not always necessary. Auricular or cadaveric cartilage can be used if a saddle nose deformity or perforation needs repair. BTS MD

  • @NoseMD Forgive my nievity, but if it is easy to straighten the bent/broken cartilage and replace it, why can this not be done in the nose and therefore avoid the need of removal?

Furthermore, after this procedure will there be a hole inside your nose, i.e. if I placed both my index fingers inside both nostrils would they touch? This idea and the weakening of the nose is putting me off this procedure.

I guess I'm just surprised the only solution to this problem is 'cut it out' not 'fit it'.

  • joe rogan

  • I have had this surgery done. it is vey painful plus i had polyps removed at the same time. i have since had to have two more surgery's to remove polyps. And am due for a 4th surgery.

  • @globug2000 It shouldn't be painful. However, even in the best of hands polyps can recur. Good follow-up, topical medications including saline, antibiotics and steroids may benefit you. Also, allergy evaluation and balloon sinuplasty for residual sinus disease in difficult to access sinuses may also help.

    BTS MD

  • so is it the cartilage that shifts over that blocks the nose? i seen another video where a doctor chipped bone from his nose.Or is it both?

  • @straightupmenace It can be both and typically remove cartilage and bone when they are blocking. In this video I did both

    BTS MD

  • how much is surgery without insurance? how much better is breathing after surgery?

  • @straightupmenace kinda stupid to ask someone how much nose surgery is. Of course if you dont have insurace its going to cost thousands more than if you had insurance.

  • That's crazy how you do that. I could never be a surgeon lol.

  • lets just say this surgery is so painful this shit got me addicted to pain killers

  • Let's just say this surgery was so painful I lived off Percocet for a week!

  • i had this surgery in ireland in 99 - quite successful - not too painful after. Im always in awe of surgeon whn i see this stuff

  • Can deviated septum cause Sinus Infection, Sinusitis, etc..?, like these Nasal Steroids e.g. Rhinocort, Nasonex, doesn't seem to help any more. And I know those are for allergy treatment.

  • @pabcede87 Deviated nasal septum can contribute to sinus infections. those steroid sprays help open the nasal and sinus passages. If they are not helping U need to see a Nose doctor.

    BTSMD

  • WIthout insurance how much does this surgery tend to cost?

  • @bratboy122101 still usually thousand sof dollars in the USA. To ensure your safety , operating rooms and doctors office have the overhead expense to maintain sanitary, safe environment plus insurance coverages. All these costs are built into the cost of doing business.

  • @NoseMD Would you say 4 thousand dollars is a safe estimate?

  • Respond to this video...more resonating sounds of voice.

  • I have a question... How the voice changes after the surgery?

  • i was told i have a deviated septum in my right nostril ive had it for a few years now and i just want to know if they put you to sleep for this!? cause my mom has nose surgery when she was my age and she had to be awake! my doctor said he wont porform surgery on me untill im 18 though and im 15 now

  • @zippyXDD septal surgery can be performed at any age. However, general rule of thumb is to wait for boys reach 16-17 years old and have completed most of their growing. Activity in contact sports may also delay surgery. If you are very symptomatic , I would rocede

  • @zippyXDD ya dude just turned 18 in april and my surgery is on the first. i cant w8 to breath normally

  • @zippyXDD I just had this surgery this morning. I was so scared of, too. But do not worry,Yes, they put you sleep, you dont feel anything. I even do not remember when I slept. Hope you will get over it easily

  • my question to noseMD,

can doctors detect a deviating septum early enough on they basically have long term plates which serve the same purpose to the septum as braces do for teeth? I mean, if i could help it, if i had something other than my completely flat centered septum, i would like to not have structural support removed if it can be dealt with otherwise.

  • @Pimpmastahanhduece

Sorry, no "braces" to obtain in your youth to straighten a deviated nasal septum. Only surgery will help if needed.

    BTS MD

  • Cant believe ive never seen this before. Ive hardly been able to breath out of my nose due to swelling for the past 7 years. Its totally screwed up my life. Can hardly sleep, always feel tired/exhausted, and like the person below me said on rare occasions when I can breath slightly it shifts from nostril to nostril.

Neither me or my parents have insurance though. (im 20 years old btw) Does this possibly qualify for any sort of disability enough to get this fixed? It would change my life.

  • i had the same surgery done on me but i still feel like crap and i cant breath the doctor told me that the membranes were big and he burned it out and the doctor said i was fine. i still cant breath

  • hey doc.. you didnt leave any cartilage in the nose. nose is going to shrink

  • @TheCyoruk Plenty of cartilage left. U need carilage support at the tip (caudal end) and at the bridge (dorsal side). All the rest can be removed safely. However, I do replace a large piece for xtra support.

  • Nearly all the cartilages are taken out. I had this operation 4 weeks ago, now I breath better.

  • I had my first one done when i also had polyps, 2 years ago. They removed the polyps and fixed straightened my septum; double whammy. They removed the stilts from my nose a week after. It wasn't long until i was having difficulty breathing from the same nostril. As it turned out my septum deviated again really bad. I decided to go through with the surgery again, this time just to straigthen my septum. 3 weeks later, i'm still having trouble breathing; it deviated again. Sucks for me.

  • My nose can't see that.

  • In Malta it is free of charge !!

  • I am going to do this surgery next saturday !!

  • is that Joe Rogans nose?

  • thats gotta hurt

  • Thanks for the info. It helps to know what is happening when I undergo the procedure in a few weeks.

  • They did this to me yesterday. I'm really glad I watched this afterward rather than before hand.

  • @CincoDrums ...just said the same EXACT thing. Sitting here with my splints in trying to get some info on what I just went through. Great video Doc. Thanks!!

  • @CincoDrums well i didn't have the same luck here, i'm supposed to do this soon...looks messy from here >.>

  • LOL I just had this wtf how am I not in horrific pain this looks horrendously painful

  • I can never breath through both nostrils. I rarely do. Does the septum ever shift back and forth, like everyday? Because I can usually either breath through one or the other, back and forth, right or left.

  • @LosAngelesIzTheBest Alternating nasal breathing is not uncommon and has nothing to do with the nasal septum moving. The nasal septum is a fixed structure. The normal physiologic cycle of the nasal turbinates (side wall of the nose) is enlargement of the mucosal surface every 45-60 minutes to help cleanse the nose. You experience this because of a marginal airway either due to a DNS or allergies. See a nasl doctor for further evaluation.

  • @LosAngelesIzTheBest omg same here. my septum is EXTREMELY deviated.

  • @candykiss620 But does it switch back and forth? I can't even walk home from school while listening to my ipod without breathing through my mouth.

  • @LosAngelesIzTheBest

I also have this problem and am getting surgery in August to resolve the problem. It is a deviated septum caused by a broken nose when I was a kid. The bone shifts on a daily/weekly basis and has prevented me from breathing with my nose ever since I can remember. Can't wait to have it fixed!

  • there are times during the day, apparently at random, where i go through all three. in fact i just realized i feel equal amounts of air in both nostrils, but there are times where one will be so shut closed, its like i have flu, nothing in or out, and dont bother fighting it, it just hurts. for me, whats rare, is when both are shut and i am forced to breath through the mouth. i just take some nasal decongestant spray, but i dont use it for more than 3 days in a row unless i was sick for REAL.

  • Whats congenital fullness, the dark circles under my eyes are always there, the dark circle is also darker on the side of the deviated septum.

  • has anyone ever got bags under eyes because of a deviated septum, no oxygen to the sinuses

  • @MrBoobiTV No. The fatty swelling under the eyes are either due to congenital fullness of the periorbital fat, allergies causing facial swelling or venous congestion from allergies or sinus infections making the periorbital fat more prominent. A deviated nasal septum may contribute to a sinus infection..

  • @wkennedy325 Had mine today AM. No problems at all, took about 45 minutes and virtually no pain yet...lol

  • @wkennedy325 How was your surgery??

  • Its out nurse told me to do it in the hospital bleed no kidding. Nearly heeled now still cant breath properly tho how long till after the op could you breath better?

  • how much does this surgery cost? i need it done, my septum is badly deviated.

  • There are several costs associated to correct a deviated nasal septum. If you have medical insurance it should be covered less deductibles, co-insurances and co-pays. If you have no insurance there are three costs. Surgeons fee, anesthesiologists fee and facility fee. These costs vary by doctor and location. Certainly if performed in the USA it will be several thousands of dollars. Cosmetic work at the same time is an additional expense.

  • Can you go back to work straight after the op or shall i take a week of or so.

  • You can go back to work pretty quickly, but not straight away. It's still a real surgery that you're put to sleep for. I'd never had surgery before (had it done in 2002) and let me tell you, you DO feel very fucked up afterwards. It is a bit painful and you will have these cotton things in your nose for a good week or so... it takes about 3 weeks to really have those taken out once it's healed enough to really go without anything up your nose and for your nose to be free!

  • @dubasher DINT NEED TO NO LOL ??
