...Trotsky founded the Red Army. To say that Trotskyism is not communism as we know it is absurd. Stalin's rise was made possible by Lenin, whose take on terror can be best laid out in his own words: “One cannot hide the fact that dictatorship presupposes and implies a “condition”, one so disagreeable to renegades, of revolutionary violence of one class against another …the “fundamental feature” of the concept of dictatorship of the proletariat is revolutionary violence.”

It was actually tongue-in-cheek. I'm actually a Trotskyist. But bear in mind this isn't, of course, how any sensible communist approaches someone on the street, or talks to workers on the picket-line. That was actually a quote from The Transitional Programme, written by Trotsky only a year before the Second World War, during the rise of fascism across Europe; while the global economy was still very much suffering in the wake of the horrendous collapse of '29.
