Wow, that's pretty different to what I was taught, though the woman who taught me was from Birmingham so that could just be the way they sign there. It was: 1: index finger 2: index and middle 3: thumb, middle, index 4: thumb, middle, index, ring 5: All fingers and thumb 6: little finger 7: little and ring finger 8: little, ring, middle 9: little, ring, middle, index And the 10, 11 and 12 are different too. Could I possibly post a video response to this to see what you think?
@ShotokanKarateRules Please do. Numbers in BSL vary greatly from region to region. Always interesting to see a different way of signing them. Look forward to seeing your video! :)
Within sign language there are alot of regional variations. The only numbers you did the same as me were 1-5 all the rest were different. Also when spelling your name do not mouth your name as you spell each letter, you should say richard when you begin spelling and not draw it out slowly with your mouth. Just trying to be helpful :-)
There are definitely a lot of regional variations out there in BSL. I learnt his way on my level one course and thought I would test it out in reply to a similar ASL video. Thanks for tips on the lip patterns for the name. At the time I think my fingerspelling speed was the main problem. Thankfully I am a little better at it now. ;)
Check out lovesbth's channel for some really good BSL videos! :)
Sorry about having to repost. I did the first video with YouTube quick capture but I found the end result a bit odd because some of the frames seemed to be missing, causing a jumpy effect to my hand movements.
I wanted to learn BSL for years but only got around to it recently. I signed up for a class and I now relish the opportunity to use it with deaf people in my community.
I notice several regional variations for numbers and some for colors too. I think more regional variation for number in BSL than ASL.

I might try to learn to count this way instead if it's more well known. Great video by the way. :)

Nice. Is BSL a new project of yours?

It is fairly new to me, yes. I started learning it at the end of September last year.
