this is how you can tell......

if you look at the flames coming from the ultra bar you will see that both are bursting in unison at a constant rythm like 1,2,3,4 test it out to see....

when he initiates the ultra the rythm is off

if you pay attention the flame like flickers out of rythm

Knowing this, the Lariat hit would have the 100% stage, the ultra would skip the second 100% stage, and it would hit on the 80% stage. Now, if you did a focus instead, the damage scaling would be different. Like the ultra, it has 2 stages of scaling, but skips the second stage instead of the first stage. So, 100%, skip 100%, skip 80%, 70%.
