Physically it was a hard life when the Mother was gone. Eventually there was the Saving Grace...metaphorically speaking: The Here and Now can be appreciated...by All, yes.
This could be outta spiritualized's repertoire. I love this Steve Miller version, I know he's a great guitarist but I really rate Mr Miller as a singer.
The version of this song on Miller's Anthology album has a verse chopped out !! It's good to have the complete version. The band's catalog has NOT been well preserved over the years. So much good stuff from the early days is missing or hard to get. Thanks for posting.
Dominator8146: The stereo quality of your postings is consistently superior. You're certainly giving Steve Miller's classics the respect they deserve. Thank you!
"Saving Grace" was follow-up album to "Brave New World". Motherless Children was, and is, one of my favorites. Great blues feel, pretty heavy on the psychedelia. Typical, great Miller treatment--the SONG was the most important thing, not the lead break. HOW I WISH Steve would break out on tour and play more of these gems from the first 5 albums--the "early" years before the wreck. But I understand. Pop songs pay the bills, and that's the way it is, and Steve is still a huge draw.
heard this song on 1970 surfer documentary called "Pacific Vibrations" .....amazing...looked for it, found claptons' version, puked my guts out, then found what i had heard- the steve miller cover. deeply moving song. i didnt even know steve miller was doing music that far back. wow
man ive typed this message 3 times and it keeps erroring me!key to the highway is a great song!sure sounds like an old blues song with the s.m.b. touch.u like living in the u.s.a.?maybe that's a silly question....
@plasticworlds it's awesome to be able to "talk" with people like you on here! if you really wrote it then hats off to you my friend! hope you have a great week/weekend,and remember, when you play, play one LOUD for me.
@Philtration Rightly said Sir. I maintain the theory (anecdotal at best) that as the Beatles fade into memory, then so does the integrity of modern popular music, and with that, goes the imagination of impetuous youth. Remember, for example, Steve Miller and Mcartney on 'my dark hour' for example. What a magical moment in 68. We need another punk-type revolution.
Steve m iller was a genius!

@dimebagdave77 Blind willie johnson wrote this in the 1920's. Steve has made a beautiful version here.

@dimebagdave77 Sometimes your are meant to just chill out and this is one of them.
Too many young people today have the attention span of a Chihuahua.
The picture does not have to change every 10 seconds all the time you know.
