That was always the worst thing about Rottnest, the total disrespect the Quokkas recieved. Well, I can think of other bad things, but that's at the top.
They're wild and all, but they have just been unexposed to dangerous beings (like humans) and other animals that might eat or hurt them until the past decades or something. I guess they're like the birds and squirrels in cities; You can feed them and (almost) touch them.
i just got back yesterday and i fed all of the quokkas i saw. at the food bar one of the quokkas just sat still while a patted him and stroked his fur. the other ones just hopped away.
MY goodness I can't believe people are being so horrible about this! That's humans for ya..
Anyway wow! This brings back memories, I went to Rottnest a while back too and forgot just how adorable they are so I thankyou for reminding me :) also they look even more cute with their constant half-asleep expression, go quokkas! They really are lovely
Gorillapants, shut up. Quokkas are so cute, I wish they were more common and more people knew about them. I even drew a quokka once, it was horrible, but if you want I can show it to anyone who wants to see it.

@indyelmo Rabies does not exist in Australia. That's why Australian quarantine is so restrictive.

@NachoXCheese Yeah I'm pretty sure they bounce around going "quokka quokka quokka quokka" like a furry pacman

Actually I thought that a quokka's natural food was half-eaten hot dogs and sugar packets from the Dome.
Who would have thought they eat leaves?

Rottnest is dutch for Rat's Nest.
Dutch explorers thought the quokkas were large rats.
