In factory farms, these little cuties would be castrated with blades, have their teeth chopped off, and their eyes cut, all without anesthesia. If they had not grown large enough, they would also be 'thumped' or have their necks broken. In the slaughterhouse, they would be lucky if they were properly stunned before being dunked in the scalding tank and sawed open by ill-trained workers. Why don't you all look at it this way:

Cannibals in the wild, such as wolves, have to hunt to survive. What do they hunt? Other species. So why doesn't anyone say wolves are cruel? It's the way of life. Either way, if we didn't eat pigs or any other animals, they would STILL be eaten in the wild. Before anyone retaliates me with some bogus vegetarian crap, think about it. Sure we can all be vegetarians, but like I said, either way they'll be eaten by SOMETHING at SOMETIME, in the wild or not.

Instead we use weapons, which is not in nature. Are you aware that 10 billion animals are killed in this country alone for human consumption? if they were killed in the wild by true carnivores, it would be WAY less. Humans are not part of any cycle. We eat meat for luxury, not survival. YOU think about it.

That's an odd way of thinking about it... humans provide them with unlimited food, grooming, security from predation, treatment for diseases, and ask nothing of them in return except one day their meat! Yes, eventually their life will be cut short by a butcher, but it's a good life they live. In the wild they wouldn't have it so good. I think of it as symbiotic relationship between humans and pigs where both benefit.

Btw, another example of a symbiotic relationship that parallels the relationship between livestock and humans is that of aphid farming ants. They feed them and protect them so they can feed on their excretions. Eventually the ants eat the aphid too. The aphids benefit because they get all this protection and help from the ants and their population gets really big. The ants benefit because they get food. It's mutually beneficial.

Cannibalism is a hell of a lot different then eating other species... I ain't sick. Btw, I think vegetarianism is a great thing, and if you're a vegetarian I applaud you. It's much better for the environment as it takes less resources to produce your food and it's very healthy. I also respect farmers who eat meat in their diet too, and I think you shouldn't hate on them.

Symbiotic relationships are found everywhere in nature. Another symbiotic relationship we have is with gut flora (bacteria found in the stomach). Without the bacteria to digest and breakdown our food, we would die. Bacteria actually outnumber human cells about 10 to 1 (they're smaller though, so in terms of biomass the human cells take up more mass).

If you do take issue with factory farming and animal cruelty though, I would agree it's a terrible thing. Just don't hate on farmers who raise their animals in an ethical manner providing them with a good life just because eventually they do eat them. Without animal husbandry, all the domesticated breeds of animals would not be found in massive numbers all over the world (the pig population alone was at 0.85 billion and growing last time I checked).

My philosophy is- meat is meat. Once the animal is dead, its flesh is protein, there's nothing you can do to bring it back.

I'm sorry but I am by no means an animal rights activist. I believe we as people have the right to decide which pigs are raised to be eaten. And it really doesn't matter if a pig is gross while it is alive, as long as it's delicious on the plate. I'm sure you've eaten plenty of vegetables that have been naturally fertilized with manure, which would be considered "gross", but in its final state, its most certainly good to eat.
