More like 50 years after the crucifixion, mate. Christianity was pretty well established 500 years later, so they probably already had a text to go by. Unless Christians then were able to time travel to write their own texts 5C prior, which actually sounds amazingly cool.

And yes ... I've spent $100k becoming a Bible nerd, because liberal arts colleges rock. I think I'll write my next paper on time-travelling Christians in the 6th Century. My professors wouldn't be surprised by this point.
