Thanks a lot for this tutorial, I was trying to figure out how the hell to do this but could never figure it out due to my limited knowledge of flash.
Nice tutorial. Funnily enough I was working on a very similar project a few years ago, but with cartoon style characters. You can get lip synchronisation by running a sound file though a speech analyser (e.g. praat) and exporting amplitude data to XML. Then you load this data into flash at runtime and with a couple of if-conditions to get the avatar's mouth to move in synch with the audio.
