  • Real musicians don't feel the need to say that one instrument is better than another. The viola, and the violin for that matter, are beautiful instruments. To belittle the other in order to glorify the instrument that you prefer makes you a pathetic, ignorant, and second rate "musician".

  • F*** violin! Viola and cellos r the most beautiful strings!!!!!

  • The viola is a large and awkward instrument, which when played, sounds downright disgusting. Violists are the most insecure members of the string section. Nothing can be done about this. Violists don't like to be made fun of and therefore find ways of making people feel sorry for them. They wear shabby clothes so that they'll look as if they've just been dragged under a train. It works quite well.

  • @MenaceFan You sir, are a fucking retard. I played in orchestras my whole life and really good Violists sound a hundred times better than the best Violinist. Violins sounds whiney and scratchy when most people play it. Violas, like cellos have a nice smooth, full sound to them.

  • @EarsEat10Neon Who said anything about violinists or how they compare? The violin is a high-pitched, high-tension instrument, not easy to play. Lot of hard music written for it. Important things for a violinist to remember: #1 Keep your studio door slightly open so all can hear your brilliant practice sessions. #2 Make disparaging remarks about other violinists whenever possible, which is most of the time. #3 Tell everyone how terribly valuable your instrument is until they drool

  • Very beautiful !

  • I played this on the flute!! But ithink it was called catilina

  • i like the sound of the vioal over the violin it is just a prefrense

  • i wish i could play the viola that good

  • Love the ending note haha

  • la viola es muy linda, resonante y versatil, pero me quedo con mi violin

  • I think the cello and viola sound the prettiest

  • The viola is way better than the violin (known fact) and notjust because I play it... Lovely sound omg I want to play like you! xxx

  • I love violas, but why are all of you bashing violins.

I go to a video that's a violin piece and none of them are saying rude things about other instruments.

Are you mad because violin is more popular and well known?

    I don't get it

  • Pretty! *sigh* this is wonderful a nice rich sound. I played viola for like 6 years noe but it gets really annoying when I'm mistaken for a violin and when the violins get all the attention it's irritating

  • That was Beautiful, I lost my 13 year old Grandson in a Tragic accident on Oct 2, 2011. I not sure what the meaning of 1st chair viola meant. he also played the french-horn. thank you.

  • viola IS better than violin?

  • @memokk personally, i say, noting is better, just a matter of what you and your ears like :)

  • très beau son que l'alto

  • I miss playing viola. :'(

  • This is a great performance! Bravo. The instrument appears to be fairly good sized, but in her hands it has that full, sweet alto-ish sound that only the right viola and player can make.

  • Beautiful.

  • It is rather sad that everyone is completely ignoring the performer here, and how wonderfully she played this piece. So thank you Olga, for letting us listen and for performing it so thoughtfully and beautifully. I love how it sings, you have a very soft and calming touch to the viola. ^_^

  • I can't stop listening

  • i play the viola too!! one day i will play ike that too

  • do you have a music sheet for this ?

  • I really like the way a viola is different from a violin, it doesn't sound too high! I've played it for 6 years but now I haven't played the instrument for years :( Don't have it anymore :(

  • Watch a violist play a violin and see them play thirds instead of whole steps. Watch a violinist play a viola and see their hands break.

  • love it pople sheesh

  • um i have one question im going to be playing that is it hard?

  • @dancewithcashette1 I played the viola, for the first year I hated it because I didn't like practising but in the end it just becomes a part of you. Since I hated practising it kind of became a therapy for me, I only practised when I got mad. =D I guess in beginning, just practise 'cause in the end the music sheet just looks like words and your fingers and bow just have their own minds when you play the viola. XD

  • @xxSpammy thanks so much thats helps me i am getting my insterment and its going to be a viola and hopefully when i get good i can play the song handel i cant wait untill tommarow um i am also getting lessons too and i am getting them from my school but im buying it from a place that everyone goes for just the rate for 20.00 because,i am a part of my school lessons are also 20.00 dollars a month so i am crossing my hands and you just keep up the good work.cashette♥♥♥

  • I think almost everything written for the violin, sounds better in viola, because it's a deeper rich sound :) and yeas, I play the viola :)

  • Viola, Violin, or Cello. What makes it come alive is the artist.

  • Olga Goija is one reason why the viola is one of the best sounding musical instruments there is today.

  • Viola's just have such a nicer deeper richer sound than a violin IMO. Just a lovely piece and well played! Alas, I only managed to get to Grade 4 on my viola! :'(

  • Ok, My homeroom teach/orcastra teach said I should do viola, but give uo either spnish or chorus. What should I do?

  • Wow that was very good i just started to play it but im not as good as her (duh) but one day i will:D (but we shall see)

  • I play the viola

  • Ok this is a correction to my comment below. It seems that the Olga I was referring to that plays the violin is different than this Olga that plays the viola. I thought at first that they were one in the same but they are actually two different people.

  • I was thinking dam this sounds good, and than I saw it was Olga and I was like oh ok, no wonder. Olga is an awesome violinist. I guess if you can play the violin you can also play the viola. But can she play the cello? Hmm, now that ones played a little differently. I bet if you can play one than you can play them all. Just guessing.

  • hmmm..Viola, not too high not too low... Love this instrument even though I already play the piano.

  • Lovely performer, lovely performance. She plays with great clarity and with true pitch. Thank you.

  • @Princess2love123 it is a serious matter.!! imma a musican i take these things seriously. i think both viola and violin should be treated with the same ammount of respect (:

  • estoy aprendiendo a ejecutar la viola y me gustaria algun dia estar cerca de tu nivel

  • @Princess2love123 wow your weak then. your not willing to put in effort to play a hard instrument haha you suck.

  • 35 people must be deaf :)

  • Thats so Peaceful WITHOUT MY BROTHER YELLING!!!☻Lol!!!!

  • VIOLA PWNAGE

  • beautiful.

  • yes, this is Handel's violin sonata number 6. Just played on viola. Easy :)

  • Does anybody know what is the name of this piece? I'm looking for the music sheet but I can't find it...and, was it written for the viola? Haendel wrote mostly for violins :/

  • everyone seems to say tht clarinets and flutes disagree with which is better and i play flute but i get on well with the clarinets...... is it jst me???

  • Coolles Viodeo

  • vey well

  • Very beautiful music Thank You

  • I loveeee the rich sound of the viola itsss so...so...so.. altooooo the violoin is so high n squeaky n anoyin buttt viola voice range can be compare to a Double second steel pan nice n mello n alto compare to the lead steel pan (soprano)

  • I play the viola. And I asked for a bike.

  • So heart warming! This really touches the soul with its deep mystifying tone.

  • I love Viola

  • i play viola but not as good as her!

  • @SymphonyofSorrow Violins *can* be 'squeaky'- played the wrong way or with the wrong piece. But yes, they can be beautiful as well.

  • I love the sound of the viola; much more than that of the violin. What it loses to the violin in nuances and responsiveness it makes up in the deeper character of its voice.

But the viola is a complex, unsettled and perhaps a bit 'unhappy' a string instrument.

I would enjoy hearing from string players who have experienced both instruments on the differences between the two - not just sound, but playing them, etc.

  • @HickysBoy i play viola and im 12 and i totally agree with u

  • @MrZoaboy2 I hope your studies go well and you stay with the viola a long time. Perhaps you can share something you have learned to play on YouTube. Do you know about the American Viola Society?

  • i dont know where to get a good viola because i am very limited on money i could only spend $300 at most :( i have been playing viola in my school and i absolutely love it

  • violas are under appreciated becuz ppl mistake them for violins, i know, thats what happend to me

  • when i first started playing viola 3 years ago, my dad showed me this video and told me that he wanted to see me play like her.... xD violas are amazing works of art btw <3

  • violas are the best! (because i have one!!) :)

  • violas sound beautifull

  • she has a violin vibrato

  • @majhodge

    Can you explain that please?

  • @wafferz

she's got a thin, fast vibrato, which works much better on the smaller string length of a violin than a viola, she's an amazing player, but i think majhodge is right. a wider vibrato would be better, more expressive.

  • im just resaerching for my project lol

  • Apaixonante, esse som é universal!!!!!!!!!!!

  • can't we all team up against the people who DON'T play instruments?

btw i totes play viola XD

  • @Nichordnaruto its stupid i keep telling my little sister to play an uncommon instrument like the viola like me because there are so few she would surely be a 1st violist but if everybody plays the violin your more likely to get 2nd violin. i love the viola it is so beautiful and also unfair as to how violists never get the melody in my school we ALWAYS get the harmony im sick of it. i love the viola:)

  • @Nichordnaruto The music department at my school has. We have our own banquets where non music students are not allowed in unless they are the guest of a music student. They also have to pay extra.

  • Nice!!!

  • Swnio'n hyfryd.

  • Actually even player nor the instrument matters. Only the relations between notes and how they communicate matters

  • Did Handel ever compose for the piano, or even own one?

  • @ThePaulCDickie Piano wasn't invented yet until Bach's son J.C. Bach's time. Most likely this is a piano reduction of the orchestral score.

  • wtf i dnt even know the difference between viola and violin theyre just the same

  • VIOLA IS THE MOST BEST INSTRUMENT!

  • Comment removed

  • @MsViolafreak

    gammar

  • @1prettyricky *grammar :D

  • Awesome!! I play viola as well. I prefer the rich deep sound of the viola, having a low C string, over the high-pitched sound of a violin.

  • I am playing this on my soprano saxophone and there were some trills on the sheet music but I added in the trills that she does because I like them.

  • I played the viola a little bit when I was younger, and I was thinking of starting back up again. I'm not sure if I want violin or viola, though. I much prefer the sound of the viola, but there seems to be much more music for the violin. However, it seems that once one learns the viola or violin, becoming equally proficient in the other wouldn't be so hard. Is that true?

  • @DietBroccoli Going from the viola to the violin is far easier than going from the violin to the viola.

  • @DietBroccoli As a viola player, I recomend viola simply because there never seems to be enough in an orchestra, also, it may seem like us viola players don't have alot of music LIES! lol we can play what the violins play any day! but a violin can't play what a viola player can (we have a lower string than they do) so I highly recomend it. ^_^ give some love to the viola family! <3

  • This is awesome!

  • sometimes i think i should have picked the viola instead of the violin..

  • @NaBeHobby you can always switch, like I did

  • Lovely tone

  • i didn't know what was the difference between the two until recently. i thought viola was just another name for violin.

  • Super , piękna barwa , i czysto IDEAŁ

  • Violins are not squeaky unless its a terrible violin with bad strings.

  • viola was my first instrament

  • sei una gran fregna!!

    bella e brava!!

    complimenti!!

  • i find it hilarious that every instruments have beef with the other. clarinets vs flutes, violins, vs violas... hilarious. we should all just agree they all rock and continue in life ^.^

  • @shawil12 Wind + Brass VS Strings lol

  • @shawil12 and it's funnier the more similar they are. Heck, they have electric hybrid violin/viola's now with 5 strings.

The viola i think is extremely underrated though, often designated to a supporting role only. It's hard to find solo viola music, which is a shame considering just how beautiful it is. It's my music of choice.

  • @shawil12 Oh come on everybody knows Vuvuzelas are the best instrument by a mile.

  • @Ingestedbanjo Really... I think you mean the best instrument to be heard from a mile's distance :)

  • @shawil12 id like to point something out here most Violin/Viola fudes are Violinist picking at the Viola players and funnist part 9/10 its because the Violinist thinks the Viola player can't play well when most Viola players are ex-Violinists

  • @shawil12 , and the fact that with out the other instruments there would be no orchestras :)

  • @shawil12 Dont forget the beef between band and orchestra

  • @shawil12 the human voice is by far the best instrument!!

  • @tpstrat14 LIES!! lol

  • @shawil12 haha you're right! and in a choir you've got tenors snobbing baritones and vice-versa, altos snobbing sopranos and sopranos snobbing pretty much everyone. It's funny, it seems the higher you get in sound the higher your nose gets :P

  • @shawil12 Fuck flutes. The sound is high and annoying. Clarinets on the other hand have a beautiful sound. Same with violins. Who would want to listen to that ear bleeding sound. I know I wouldn't. But violas have one of the most soothing sounds of any instrument.

  • Wonderful; thank you!

  • nnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn............xo

  • nnnnnn.....X0

  • im in the freshman orchestra for my school, and im 3 rd chair. (i could be in 1st but i had to sight read my audition music). this is a very interesting peice, and she plays it beautifully. i dont even know why the piano plays, because all i listened to was the viola. and BTW VIOLAS PWN VIOLINS!!! like this if you agree!

  • That's the size viola I need.

  • More people agree that Violas are superior to Violins, it seems, if the thumbs ups are anything to go by, lol.

  • *thumbs up* the viols is the awesomist everrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!!!!!!!!

  • naja hey wer will chattn ich ben so gelangweilt ^^ wer will meldet sich

  • VIOLAS FTW thumbs up if u play the viola

  • i typed in viols\a solos and this came up but this is the violin

  • @tomsquid No, that is a viola, and she is a famous Violist.

  • I'm a viola

  • @Shadow9728 your made of wood?

  • Beautiful.

  • @Princess2love123 all you're saying by this comment is that a really great violist must be more skilled than a really great violinist. and since what matters is the sound, you're saying violas are superior.

  • Er, since when is there the violin/viola war going on? They're both instruments of their own. People get over yourselves. If you're eejits like that you shouldn't be listening to music or playing an instrument cause you just don't appreciate music.

  • i dont know but my teacher screamed att me that i cant have my little finger strait(like this girl) i have seen oistrach and he has strait little finger too. what do you here on youtube say about that???

  • @danielwowman Your teacher sounds like a serious dick.

  • @danielwowman I have the same "problem". The teacher says it makes my hand look tense but my hand is totally relaxed. I think it is okay cause not everyone's body is comfortable in a certain position. For example, my teacher curves the pinky towards the palm of the hand when playing saying it's better than straight. Well, to me it isn't. I guess you can learn by certain rules and adapt to your own position as you go along, as long as the playing sounds correct.

  • is beautiful

  • @SymphonyofSorrow including the cello :-)

  • I knew some differences between Viola and Violin but I still cannot classify them, I need help.

  • @Selinayumi986 /watch?v=h2Bi1iY12UQ

  • @SymphonyofSorrow In that case, the bass is one SEXY instrument.

  • intonation?

  • I play the violin and viola, but for me a viola suits my style better.

It has a deeper sound than a violin and therefore it will always be supreme 'it's little brother'. And when I listen to a violin I like the sound, but a viola really gives me those shivers, you know?

  • hell yeah violins are beautiful. She does look like an olga.

  • In my opinion the Viola is better suited for this piece. I've heard a version with the harpsichord and the saxophone which is quite interesting, nice and mellow..

  • Beautiful... I had quite a bit of trouble tracking this piece on spotify/itunes based on the tittle given. After some searching I finally found it! For anyone else who is after this it comes up as HWV 373 , Violin Sonata in E Major (adagio).

  • Comment removed

  • wow

  • @SymphonyofSorrow love all my stringers but the viola is better and that e string is a killer.

  • absolutely gorgeous :) an inspiration in tonality for a younger violist for sure

  • i wiah i could play this good!!

  • simply beautiful!

  • also the viola has a perfect tone!

  • I heart viola.

  • ok if you guys think that the violin cant be beautiful then look up sad violin in the youtube search box

  • I've played the violin for 4 years, and this makes me want to learn viola! xD

  • @SychoKids ignorant question. But how hard is it to pick up the viola and play it if you already know violin? :S

  • @DillonB1234 dude its kind of hard considering the clef change. trust me. now i completely forgot the treble clef x)

  • @SychoKids I've been playing violin for over two years now, and I am learning viola and it only took me 20 min. to perfect twinkle twinkle, perpetual motion (Suzuki),French Folk song, and the C major scale...

  • @cardmagicguy99, Just because you can play a song doesn't mean you have mastered something and if you have only been playing for 2 years maybe 3 i doubt that your intonation is even close to perfect it takes people years and years just to master half, first, and third pos. and i'm fairly sure that if i were to give you rhythms to play that scale you would fail so 20 min my ass its probably garbage.

  • i play the viola too!

    it's great!

  • @Gaya815 Me, too!

  • bonito sonido!!!

  • Comment removed

  • @stfany84 A viola. Read the title?

  • @joshrulz94 solo nesecitaba el nombre del intrumento no su sarcasmo .gracias

  • this is so AWESOME!!!!

  • nice video! this is a viola! I loved!

  • This is... bliss.

  • i just started playing viola. this is a very difficult song for me to play because my fingers always mess up. u did a very good job.

  • excuse me, but what is the difference between a viola and a violin? =P

Is it now a violign whe's playing?

  • @MichelleSeven *GaSp*......the differences are very clear......a much larger body size different tuning, much deeper rich sound, this is a viola she is playing also.

  • @MichelleSeven A viola burns longer.

  • Having played violin for most of my life, I couldn't stand the squeaking any more! So I took up viola at the age of 62 years - how I wish I'd done it years ago, and I managed to find a fabulous-sounding viola too. This always helps!

Not only is this video gorgeous but it provides a first class view of how to bow a stringed instrument. Love it.

  • muy weno!!!

io ia lo toko me ksto pro kasi nada!!

  • A piano.........

  • Voila ! It's viola!

But how do you know it's viola without seeing it? Sounds almost the same as violin in the medium range.

  • Awesome, I also play a viola and when I grow up I want 2 be as good as Goija
