Yesterday, 600 monks from Sera Monastery did the same.

Today we are getting news that Ganden monks have joined the growing protests.

Based on all the nationalistic songs that expressed reverence for Kundun, Karmapa, Khenpo Jigphun etc. that Kunga sang before, I am sure Kunga will be the last person to knowingly and willingly wear Chupa with animal pelt. Tibetans have taken to lining their chupa with brocade or fake animal pelt. I am sure it is one of these or if it is really animal skin, I am sure he was forced.

after you have killed the animal for meat, it is only wise to use every part of the carcass so nothing is wasted. this is practiced in many regions where people use the skin for clothing, meat for consumption, and teeth/etc for ornaments. the one life taken has served many purpose. just as eating beef dumplings is not a crime, so is wearing leather/fur not a crime.

Please look carefully! Kunga's chupa's gonwa (collar) and the chupei tha (hem of the chupa)and wonchu's phuthung gi tha (hem of the shirt sleeve) are all trimmed with goechen (brocade).

No fur her at all.

But even if he were to wear a fur, who are we to condemn it. Have you lived in a place which is minus 30 degrees, where you don't have any other warm clothes to keep you alive in the bitter cold? Go distribute dawn jackets etc if you want our people to stop wearing fur.

Ther is an elicit agreement between Yadon, Kunga and Jamyang kyi that they would not wear Chupa with fur. He betrayed them just to get the chance to sing at Losar party.

calm down, there is no reason for such anger and hate, and uncivilized response. just an fyi: leather, meat, egg, milk, fur, honey, etc all are products of an animal. i guess you dont wear leather shoes or jackets or laze around on a leather couch or stash your cash in leather wallet. just a thought. btw, "fur" is not illegal. it's tiger skin that is.

I want to reiterate though that Kunga is not wearing any fur, pelt etc in the video.

fyi, the space in between the hair of a fur traps air and forms a layer of air that is warmer then the surrounding. Thus, lining a a sleeve or chupei tha has an insulating effect.

I have lived in a place which can get to as low as minus 45 degrees in the winter. And I have seen what that sort of cold can do to a body not dressed properly for the weather. I will not bore you with the details here.
