Clearly red first. Touching both at the same time is statistically almost impossible, though at a certain point it becomes impossible to see with the naked eye which was first. I don't think that's the case here
Definately red first, even without the slow motion camera. It is all about the movement of the cue ball after contact. In a shot like this, the cue ball will always move away from the ball it contacted first. Go to a table and try it out. You will them be able to detect which ball was hit first almost 100% of the time. The tricky part comes when the balls get further apart, the rules change, and the cue ball moves toward the ball it struck first.
can i ask a question? well i see that it touched the red ball and the brown in the same time, ok even if i was wrong if it really did touched the brown and the red in the same time would it be foul?
if hed hit both balls exact then it would have been a foul but i agree with adronias. the pink is distorted before the brown moves suggesting red micro seconds before brown. yan must have super slow playback in his head. lol
the brown first, it aint much but if u pause at the correct moment u can see the brown just leave that tiny bit earlier, i dunno if that was a foul or not tho :P
He hit the red first.. try to concentrate to the motion of the white ball.. The white ball moved a little bit to the down right.. So he hit first the red one..
@gavpots True, a rule does exist, but its still the ref's decision to award or not award the foul, in this case the ref ruled it to be a fair shot, and from what I gather, his opponent didn't disagree so the shot is fair
Surely hit the red first as you said that the pink moves far more than the brown.....
I think we're just cheated by our eyes as the red didnt moved much as the power all to the pink, if we focus on the pink and brown, it will be clear......
It does look pink moves before brown, It also moves faster than brown, which (with my my limited knowledge of physics) must mean more power is exerted on the red which it was touching,
why does selby always play on,, look at the score

The white balls shifts to the left after contact. So it must have hit the red first.

@chankifung4e what does it got to do with the damn cussion first for god sake u invent new snooker rules?
sherifessmat 6 months ago
even if the pink travelled further, it doesn't mean he hit the red first, if you consider the cue ball momentum in horizontal and vertical components
now consider only the horizontal component
before: cue ball to the left
after: pink more to the left, brown bit to the right
"pink's left" minus "brown's right" is about the same as "cue ball's left"
i am not gonna comment on if he hit the red first or both, coz i can't judge that :S

It sure appears that both touched. Imposable to tell with normal video play. Def a foul.

if the pink ball go longer than the brown ball, that means that the pink ball got the most power, so it touched the red ball first, not a foul :)

u are allowed to hit the red and than the brown
it doesn't exist a simultaneously hit ^^

@HannaLemon . A rule does exist for a simultaneous hit, it is a foul in snooker.

The ref would have to data from star trek to get that correct if it was a foul, which it werent
Englandsbestlover 1 year ago
omg, that's impossible to see. however, in the very last slow mo it kind of appears that maybe the red moves like a nano second earlier :P
