  • @MrJaredJammer How ironic that someone defending religion would mention the supposed "bloody history" (there isn't one) of atheism. Religion has been killing since it was invented millennium ago. Also to say that atheism has a certain world view or nihilistic philosophy is ridiculous as atheism merely means lack of a belief in god, and is not subject to other tenets or positions. Your comment is filled with ignorant fail. Congratulations.

  • @ninjapirate0507 So you think killing started with religion? Ever heard of natural selection? Primates have been killing since long before religion was invented millennia ago. It baffles me when people claim the superiority of science while completely ignoring its methods. Hint: defending one idea from accusations of causing atrocities doesn't require accusing another idea of the same silliness. That's like boys vs. girls.

Religion merely means belief in a supernatural deity.

  • No matter how you cut it up, religion is an agent of social control. If it were a fact that being Non-Christian inevitably led you to be a bad person, it wouldn't prove that religion is correct; it would just prove that society needs to be controlled.

  • @grungefreak10 : You are so right. The need for that social control reveals a very dark side of humanity. Which is to say that the cure lies not in religion, but in a rational understanding of human behavioral patterns and logical action to change it. Thank you for your thoughts.

  • @ninjapirate0507 "The cure"? Logical action to change human behavioral patterns?

Humanism is no more based on rationality than religion is. They just come up with this belief that we can all get along, somehow, some day, because... well because that's what they want to believe.

  • I don't hate people for not believing the same thing as me, but I honestly believe that if you work through every issue critically, Atheism is the only reasonable place to be.

Agnosticism to me is belittling the importance of taking a stance on what may be the most important issue of science or philosophy: How did we get here? Agnostic isn't the safe stance either. If Atheism is right then you just allowed a lie to rule the lives of others. If Christianity is right, you still burn in Hell.

  • I think one should stand up for their principles, but religion unfortunately encourages attacks on those who don't agree. This is where I have the biggest problem from theists is that they believe blindly and then act surprised when everyone else doesn't.

  • @ninjapirate0507 You just said that this is human nature and you don't want to go tit-for-tat, and then you say that religion encourages attacks on those who don't agree? How many religions have you researched to be able to say that? I know lots of religious people who believe in total tolerance. Either way, hating those who are different is a survival technique- the paranoid get victimized less often. Even in species that predate religion by millions of years.

  • DICKhead, religion has lead to 1pograms against jews in russia and the ukraine. 2. the spanish inquisition which forced jews to choose between catholic conversion or death3. the huge gulf between science and faith. ask galileo or copernicus. 4. the reformation and the counter-reformation where christians were fighting more less about whose jesus was bigger than whose. 5. the crusades, etc.

  • The Absence of religion leads to communism? Or does communism lead to no religion? They do not mean the same thing. Communism for the LAST fucking time does not equal atheism, nor does atheism equal communism. Get that through your head. Atheism= NO belief in god Communism=A dogmatic and unyielding social-political sytem.

  • HotDICK,

This is one of the most myopic comments I've seen. How can you say that the absence of religion is what leads to communism? Do you actually know what is communism? Communism is a socio-economic system in the teaching of Karl Marx, Friedrich Engels, and Lenin had things to add later. There has never been a communist country, because communism is unattainable. There have been socialist countries, but this socio-economic system couldn't transfer to communism in today's world.

  • No, the absence of courage and individualism and intellect leads to communism, which oddly enough are the same things that lead to religion. Political dogma is just as bad as religious dogma, because it asks followers to believe blindly. I say question everything. Atheism does NOT equal communism.

  • exactly what i think...good job

  • Yeah, it's always people that ruin things, not atheism or religion.

  • At least some one gets it. Kudos to you geroldkid :)

  • WOW. I must admit I was a bit skeptical at first, but it's true. You CAN carry your own show! Very entertaining and well spoken.

So much progession in such little time. *sniffle* makes me proud.

  • Is that a back-handed compliment shyngo? JK

    Thanks :)

  • No, but you're more than welcome to a complementary back-hand when I get back from leave :)

  • Hey, you should make a few more vids refuting theist or Christian ideas...I will post them for the sake of debate.

  • Will do, but later,as I am about to get ready for work. (it's 5:00 am here in Japan and I haven't slept thanks to youtube, lol

  • awesome...thanks for the response...have a good day.

  • Peace out!

  • Ciao....have a good day!

  • Thanks alot. I really appreciate the feedback :)

  • I like how you took the high road.

Now, hard question. Given that a Christian has their "ethics" listed in the Bible....WHERE should atheists get their ethics from? And then, how do you know if these are correct? Or is there a "correct" ethics?

  • That IS a hard question.I would have to say they get it from the same place everyone does, that is social norm. If societies did not have ethics and morals, they could not exist as they do. Morals and ethics should be based from a standpoint of mutual benfit, based upon rationale. That is for example why I reject many of the bible's "morals" like don't have sex before marriage or kill homosexuals, but agree with ones such as "don't bear false witness".

  • OK, but then what happens if the "social norm" is slavery, etc?!!

  • It does not benefit the slaves,so it is not ethical. BTW, the Bible does condone slavery.

  • Agreed...but according to your "social norms" theory of ethics, you could never be better than the average of your community. Right?

  • The individual can always choose to be better than the average of thier community. Ethics, when it comes down to it is a personal choice, regardless of outside influences. If this was not the case, then societies would never have progressed. I will post more comments later, gotta catch the train, lol

  • But ethical knowledge can grow & does do so, correct? That is what the history of the West shows. And Atheism does take ideals from other groups, right? For example, I have heard atheists many times say they accepted the Golden Rule, which is originally from the Bible.

  • Atheism is not an organization, so broad staements about it are usually misleading. However, most atheists and freethinkers do take moral points from religions when they are logical, and discard them when they are not,not being bound by religious dogma.

  • This is an awesome response!
