there use to be an earlier civilization that made the sphinx before the egyptions. the sphinx started out as a lion with a lion face then the egyption civilization came about and recarved the lion face to a human pharroh and thats how the sphinx came about because if you notice the face is not properly proportion with the rest of the body.

@scott797 Edgar Cayce came up with that theory. That refugees from Altantis built the Pyramids & Sphinex around 10,500 bc.. He also says that many people back then was half man half horse & native Egyptians had feathers. I have Mark Leher's frist book when he belived in that. it saids that.

@Jkropolis Great theory! Problem though..you need evidence and there is none. i could say monkey people from monkey island escaped the flood and came to Egypt and built the pyramids. We could do this all day! Historians need evidence to support their theories. and the proportion of the face to the body is not evidence. You need to study ancient Egyptian art.
