I climb for a tree company myself. not that good tho. Nice jumping rappels and good footlocking tecnique. I hip thrust myself. I'm curious as to what knot they use to rappel with? is it the blakes hitch?
ur retarded if ur gona do work in a tree without being tied in with a rope. maneuvering around the crown takes skill to do quickly. and

you can use a figure eight for repelling after foot locking or tie in and use whatever knot you want...vt, schwabisch, distel, michoacan, blake, tautline, etc... i use a schwabisch with a couple twists so it doesnt lock up so much if you sit in it for a while.
at the beginning is he actually climbing the tree or just climbing the rope?
what is the objective, what is the criteria to win? when i think of tree climbing i dont think of ropes and helmets, i think of completly free up and down the tree...
im not some sick person who wants to die, but in my mind the idea of climbing trees means using nature to climb, instead of a man built wall or course. Using ropes takes that away.
i know i could (and i do) move around a tree like that quickly, precisely and safely. I'm sure with full time training people could be doing similar things like that without ropes. or using ropes as tools and not as safety devices (swinging and sliding but without being attached by harness)
For those professionals who evaluate, prune and/or remove trees (arborists; arboriculture), ropes, saddles and safety equipment is in fact used to preserve life and limb. So yes, ropes, saddles and many other pieces of safety equipment. How else to climb to the tops of large beautiful trees? So no disrespect taken - this is about working safely and the competition lets the best arborists and tree climbers demonstrate their skills.
ahhh thanks you very much. so its a competition derived from the everyday tasks of arborists. it makes more sense now. so do they have to reach several checkpoints then get down?
I love your video where you scale a tree set up a hammock then read Moby Dick. Did you wear a harness when up there sleeping is there any other safety precautions that could be taken?
That is the best stealth camping video I have ever witnessed. No one ever looks up to see if something is different. They are in nature and pay it no mind I always try to see what is stirring in the trees, water, air. Y'all make that look easy.
Glad you had some insurance when up the tree.
Pleas do more video of stealth camping with climbing ropes. And thanks for posting your video.

Rope climbing up in a tree? How is this tree climbing? I don't deny the athletic ability but it has little to do with tree climbing.

and again, out of interest, what is the objective of this? what do you have to do to win a tree climbing competition?

I did wear a saddle the entire time I was up in the tree for the night, but it was a super lightwight rock climbing model, just for sleep overs.
