@sptreasures Thank you for your help, I have a 5 week old chihuauha and hes gonna be tiny when he gets older so I'll have to make a collar that will fit him. I'm also making him a doggie bed. :) could you buy interfacing at wal-mart?
@Uhhlaneuh I'm not sure what you mean by "bubble up". After the ironing step, everything stays pretty much in place. You can purchase my tutorial for collars online @ crazyforcollars.etsy.com
@ShihTzuLove788 Hello and thank you for this inquiry. Interfacing is a product sold in fabric stores and fabric departments. It adds strength and thickness to fabric. It comes in several different weights and varieties.
@DuckVader64 I use a heavy weight, fusible interfacing that is available at most fabric/craft stores. For more details visit the tutorial section of my Etsy shop: crazyforcollars.etsy (dot) com
@KatCountry1033Girl Hi there and I hope you are enjoying making the collars as much as I do. It really took days to make that many collars, but I rarely attempt that any longer. I usually just make up a few in each design/size now and then make them on an "as sold" basis.
@reneespace Hi Renee--I am a huge fan of Janome sewing machines and currently have several of them. If you plan to make this more than a hobby, then I would suggest getting a nice, heavy duty machine.
Hope that helps. If you have more questions, contact me via
Hello and thank you for our inquiry. I offer all of that information when you purchase my fully illustrated tutorial. You can find it available in my Etsy shop.
@KatCountry1033Girl hello and thank you for your inquiry. I prefer to buy my fabric at quilt shops and usually find my interfacing at JoAnn's or WalMart.
@WhoElseButGabby I currently use the Janome 1600P and LOVE it. Really though, any standard (not too light weight) machine that sews a straight stitch will usually do the trick.
Thanks for the info! Would your machine go through webbing as well? I am looking for a home sewing machine that will sew through the webbing for pet collars. Thanks for your help!
I use nylon webbing for my large collars, and it does a great job. You might want to take some uncompleted collars to a shop that sells sewing machines and give them a test drive. My Janomes are pretty pricy, so I wouldn't want you to invest without trying them first. HTH! S in TX
is there Nylon webbing inside of the fabric to make it stronger? I cant see how the collar would be strong enough with out the webbing... You wouldnt be able to iron the nylon webbing though...
Sorry to be so slow in responding! I use webbing only on the size large collars and actually sew the finished fabric collar to it befroe adding the hardware. I really like the extra strength that it adds for the larger breeds. My customers agree.
where do you buy the hardware pieces??

@TheDAWNSNIGHT
You can find hardware on Etsy, Ebay, and several places online. Just Google dog collar hardware. Good luck!

@HaleyScreammmm
Hi again, Haley!
you can find interfacing usually at WalMart stores, if they have a fabric department. I really think the quality is better at JoAnn's, though.

I'm sorry another question @sptreasures , how does the fabric not bubble up when you stitch it? Is that what the ironing is for?

How does this work on animals that pull on a collar? Would it tear or rip?
Uhhlaneuh 2 months ago
@Uhhlaneuh Great question! I line the interior of my larger sized collars with webbing to add extra strength and durability.
