Number 1 in Southern California Channel 7 KABC TV Los Angeles. Now with Harold Greene, Christine Lund, Todd Donahoe with Sports and Dr. George with the weather now Eyewitness News at 6:00 pm.
An earlier comment noted that WABC, the original user of this music for their local news, never broadcast the ''Cool Hand Luke'' film. I thought that at one time in the 1970s, KGO (the ABC-owned sister station to WABC) in San Francisco DID show "Cool Hand Luke" on the 3:30 Movie, but I could be mistaken. Also, did ABC ever broadcast "Cool Hand Luke" nationally on the Sunday Night Movie?
Now, Channel Seven NewsScene. With Van Amburg. Jerry Jensen. Pete Giddings with weather, and Don Sanchez with sports. Now for NewsScene, here's Van Amburg.
This is Nine News with Peter Overton (Sydney); This is Nine News with Peter Hitchener (Melbourne); This is Nine News with Andrew Lofthouse and Melissa Downes (Brisbane); This is Adelaide's Nine News with Michael Smyth and Kate Collins; This is Nine News with Jonathon Uptin (Darwin)

Ahhhh, the comradery of working men... To be young, hot, and at work in the sun is a pleasure.. To see and feel accomplishment with the guys is the icing on the cake..
I'm ten years old again hearing this right after the random James Bond movie they show every six weeks on the ABC Sunday Night Movie before going to bed!
WKBW(also Channel 7, once an ABC O&O) didn't use it here in Buffalo and Western NY, but I'll give it a crack...
(CHL Tar Sequence theme begins)
"This is Channel 7 Eyewitness News, Western New York's #1 TV newscast... with Irv Weinstein, Don Postles, Rick Azar's Sports, Tom Jolls' Accu-Weather, and the Eyewitness News team. Now, for Eyewiness News, Irv Weinstein..."
"This Is Channel 7 News with Pete Wilson, Anna Chavez, Pete Giddings, Martin Wyatt and Dr Dean Edell." I wonder what would happen if Van Amburg and Roger Grimsby anchored the KGO news together?
It would be Funny if this video is resynched with Ernie Anderson Yelling "This Is Channel 7 News with Pete Wilson and Anna Chavez!" "now Channel 7 news at 6:00"
Lalo Schifrin's guitar solo composition et al to Cool Hand Luke is some of the most beautiful sounds i've ever heard. And i've heard some sounds coming from jungle earth.
The funny thing is that in New York, while this music was used by WABC as the theme for "Eyewitness News," that station never played this film at all - WNBC, in the latter half of the 1970's (after the demise of "Movie 4"), did. Doubtless WNBC viewers were wondering what the "EWN" theme was doing on a competing station . . . ;) (However, in Detroit, WXYZ had this film when owned by ABC.)
WABC was the first to adopt this music, only one year after "CHL's" release. The edit WABC fashioned was also used by WLS, WXYZ (under the "Action News" banner) and KGO (which called their 'casts "News Scene"); KABC used their own edit.
Oh yes, and "National Nine News" used the WABC edit of this music.
Almost every news station used this at one time...I think parts of Australia, Samoa and Guam still do....badass!
