Great review Chris. I've been drinking a ton of this since it came into the LCBO's in Ontario for the few weeks it was on the shelf. Glad my co-workers and I grabbed several cases. Probably my top 1 or 2 of the year. I prefer it over the Westy 12 personally like that higher carbonation and the real bready notes. Great review! Cheers!
Drank a Rochefort 10 for the second time last night, def one of my fave beers, have a 750 of the Bernardus Abt 12 for tonight, lookin forward to it, nice review my friend.
Thanks for the review Chris! I have a bottle of St. Bernardus Abt. 12, and Westy 12 cellaring right now. I can buy the St. Bernardus Abt. 12 locally, so I'll probably drink that first.
@ChadzBeerReviews I dont know if I would call this a classic but its def a staple in the Belgian beer world and a must try Quad for sure. I think sine Westy 12 is so hard to find this is a good replacement for it
Like you I've been putting it off for a while but I've never had it yet. Not really wanting to drink a whole 750 by myself. Only Trappist Quad I've had was the Rochefort 10 and it blew my mind. Hope this does the same... when I get around to it. Nice review Chris.
@BeerGeekNation Really? You need to try some Pannepot. I know Shelton imports it and you're (I believe) in Pennsylvania so surely it's around.
Anyway, better than Westvleteren and St. Bernardus as far as I'm concerned, and I'm not the only person who thinks so - just check out the reviews on Ratebeer.
Call me crazy but I think St. Bernardus beers are better in 750ml bottles. Get their Christmas beer if you can. It's better than Abt 12 and I'd say it's as good as Westvleteren 12.
I think you shouldn't ppl to push for the Westvleteren. You want to know how it taste, just take a St-Bernardus 12, Rochefort 10 or a Malheur 12. THan your in the same ballpark. And just leave the Westvleteren to the locals ;-)
Chris This is my quad or BSDA when ever Trap Roch 10 or Chimay BLUE is not available. I have never had Westy 12 so i can not compare the two how ever compared to Trap Roch 10 ... I think Trap Roch 10 is better then St B. Don't get me wrong ST. B is good but how you stated westy is inconsistent that is how ST B is to me. Sometimes it is just outstanding other times it seems off. Def huge fig and dark fruits. But When ever i drink Trap Roch 10 i feel like im in heaven. Great review and cheers.
@truthisrare777 Yeah right after I was done filming this one I realized i forgot to mention Rochefort 10! I think that is a much better beer then this one and more comparable to Westy then this one is. Cheers
@BeerGeekNation agreed. but man if you have a st b in hand you can not complain. it is a solid beer and I feel dumb saying i prefer roch 10 better because all and all both are just excellent beers. Drinking St B def makes me feel like the dude on their bottle.
Hahaha yes its that dude that made me buy it. Best beer in my opinion.

one of my fav quads. really appreciate your review. i'm looking for a good american pale wheat ale, any recommendations?
thetamishere 3 weeks ago
@thetamishere Thanks for watching first of all. My fav american wheat is Gumball Head from Three FLoyds. Just an awesome beer
BeerGeekNation 3 weeks ago
One of my top 5 favorite beers without a doubt. IMHO, Rochefort 10, Westy 12 and St. Bernardus Abt. 12 are equals in complexity, just different.

Would you say Trappist Rochefort 10 is better than this and westy 12?
sector69102 2 months ago
@sector69102
It's all subjective. They both are at the top of their style. If you like one you will like the other.

@tlazaroff Nice! its worth trying to compare the two to see how similar they are. But make sure to just enjoy the Westy 12! its a fantastic beer

I still haven't had this beer yet. I think I'm putting it off until I get to try the Westy 12.
StephenDickerman 5 months ago
@StephenDickerman yah I would try this then the Westy then this again and see what you think. You might be surprised
BeerGeekNation 5 months ago
I missed it, did you say this beer was classic?
I liked Westy 12 better. It's hard to find a vintage of this, though, and it's hard to find a fresh bottle of Westy 12.
I have 2 750ml bottles in the basement, I may give it a solo re-review this Christmas.

Call me crazy but I think St. Bernardus beers are better in 750ml bottles. Get their Christmas beer if you can. It's better than Abt 12 and I'd say it's as good as Westvleteren 12.

@StumpyJoeJr Yeah i remember last year you saying the X-mas version was even better. Ill have to find it this year.

@StumpyJoeJr Ive noticed that a bunch of belgian beers taste better in 750ml bottles.....

I agree with you onyour observation that there is a difference between sam beer in 12oz vs. 750ml bottles. I prefer 750ml too.
