i can' t say the same thing for other russian singers , who although have wonderful voices , their accent in foreign languages is very " russian " and very often , we do not understand in which language they sing ...unless we know the text . Dmitry hasn' t this problem . On the contrary , he sings equally well the russian and the western european repertoire !
A first class baritone and at the same time a very handsome man !! Rare combination ! He possess a powerful , very beautiful voice , which you never forget. A charismatic personality and what excites me in him , most of all is that although he has this dark , russian timbre , he sings with big virtuosity and real passion the italian - french repertoire !
Jn my comments on Dmitri what I've been trying to say is that richness of voice doesn't necessarily mean heaviness. Dmitri is a lyric baritone who shouldn't attempt to force himself into heavier roles in opera. Sticking to what is natural for him will keep his tone from widening & wobbling & ultimately singing off pitch. Robert Merrill example of singer who didn't sing larger, heavier roles until he was vocally ready. He had long career without deterioration of voice.
I will agree with you in, in what concerns the right use of voice that each singer and not only Dmitry should attend !
But i do not agree that Dima is a lyric baritone . Not at all ...the volume of his voice and the dark timbre he has , persuade me he is a dramatic baritone ! If he will not sing Knyaz Igor , Rigoletto , Eugene Onegin or Rodrigo , then who will sing these roles ?
Amazing, Wonderful (etc...) but what piece is this? Mussorgskij?
