It's definitely a beautiful corset, and she looks very nice in it; but God if you ever go to the Mutter Museum in Philly and see how much corsets like that mangle people's bodies... ugh it's absolutely horrifying. There's the skeleton of a twelve-year-old girl who wore corsets all through childhood to achieve a tiny waist... the position and shape of her ribs are totally disturbing. And the internal organs... It's unreal the sacrifices people make for perceived beauty, even unto death.
@Callithyia If a corset is tied well it doesn't cause damage and is very comfortable...like a hug... plus organs come under more stress when pregnant......Although, corseting during childhood can be very bad, which is why most people didn't do it............
@flowerfangirl unfortunately that's only true of Tudor corsets, which are not meant to make you look skinny but to give you a conical shape, and you don't tighten them much. they're actually nice back supports as well; waspy ones function by squashing your organs : / if you don't have that kind of figure, and you force that kind of figure, you're exerting pressure inward, yknow?
@flowerfangirl i can see what you mean, but I feel like the body is specially adapted to stretch and move about in various ways during pregnancy, yknow? we're built to be pregnant, and have been evolving that capability for millions and millions of years, but we're not built to try and fit a size ten into a size four ;) foot-binding was really debilitating, too, and internal organs weren't even involved there : /
@flowerfangirl skeletal evidence of corsetwearing involves a lot of deformation as well, and is pretty gross. corsets were really quite dangerous, some more than others. most of the ones sold nowadays arent built to be tied tightly and mess you up, cos people can get sued, but the old waspies were really awful in terms of internal organ/bone damage. people died from wearing them: falling into a swoon = the brain not getting enough O2 cos the corset was so tight it inhibited oxygen intake. :(
@flowerfangirl contemporary medical professionals were aware of these things, too, even saying that corsets inhibited blood flow. I read one account from an ophthalmologist in the nineteenth century who writes that corsets were worn so tight that they inhibited blood flow to the brain and eyes and might be a cause for the eye problems he was seeing in his practice. always taken with a grain of salt, but people back then did know that there were serious health problems associated with corsets.
I love the pink and black lace edwardian corset!! I am going to make my next corset look just like that one....thanks for uploading this! I LOVE CORSETS!!

@Callithyia o.o Foot binding involves breaking bones... pretty much torturing people... corseting isn't painful if you do it right.....
