The pianist should think a little about the style of the music. It's not possible to sing that song with that horrible piano. The arrangement and feeling is just wrong.

Tip to the choirleader: Listen to the original music and find inspiration in the style and origins and make the choir understand what kind of music they sing. They clearly just sing the notes as they've been taught with no feelings.

this song is an jamaican plantation song, like an old negro negro spiritual. the tally man in the some is the foreman counting how many bananas are the boats ( thats how the carried the bananas around). because of hot sun the slaves had to work at night to keep cool and spent the day relaxing. also the part about the taranchula is about how hard it was to see at night and sometime people died from bites. You don't know why it's called the Banana Boat Song? Just listen to the lyrics & it'll tell you everything you need to know. It's about a banana harvester on a plantation in the caribbean. Due to the hot climate, they work at night to beat the heat & they have to harvest a certain amount of bananas per shift & until they harvest that amount, the shift isn't finished.
