Shotokan is more practical in combat because the fist connects better. The kicks have range and power but it must be set up correctly to land. Besides, this shotokan version is watered down points fighting.

WTF Taekwondo rules also make no sense why would you are not allowed to punch your opponent at all.

both style Karate and Taekwondo have many style that allowed fullcontact fight

Kyokushin, Toshinkai, Enshin, etc, as well as ITF Taekwondo

you are right, they won't get point by punches, I think their reason is to improve their kicking technique,

also in Shotokan seems it's funny because we must stop after 1 clean hit (point)

but the reason is to control the attack and to deliver a clean hit while evading your opponent attack, and not to K O your opponent because it's only kumite/sparing not fighting,

I think that's make WTF tkd and Shotokan karate themost popular taekwondo and karate. anyway that's only my opinion. rgrds

@buri2zaemon you're about wtf, but I think the reason behind Shotokan only allowing one hit at a time is the ideal that that attack should be a one shot win in a real fight, so as to finish it quickly. I think WTF sparring would make the most sense if they would allow punches to the body to count for points. if not then the fighter won't know how to use his hands and ina real fight if he can't block evade and attack with his hands as well as feet then he's prolly screwed.
