  • he is a aussie legend

  • Comment removed

  • WRONG......

    sheesh...

  • He is really good live!

  • Does anyone know the bagpipe part? It seems pretty simple, but I have to play this for commencement and can't find the music for it anywhere.

  • watch the live in germany version of this song, i think its the best live version on youtube.

  • as much as I like John Farnham - the people saying that he has the same voice that he had 20 years must be delusional. He can no longer hit the high notes that he used to do on a nightly basis. He was at his peak really in the 10 years from 1986 to 1996 and the he started losing the top of his range slowly.

It is sad but of course it is bound to happen but that's why we watch all these old videos to see how amazing he USED to be :)

  • I have to agree with you here. The voice is not the same, even in this video.A prime Farnham had the best voice in the business.

  • He's not the voice anymore?

  • He's still the voice.

  • 20 years being a coke addict with do that to ya

sure he cant it those highest of high pitches anymore but he can still out sing 99.95% of people on the planet an that aint half bad

  • What's this 20 years of being a coke addict? You wanker.

  • because anyonewo is anyone knows old jonny is a coke addict

always has been always will be

  • Good spelling. Now you're REALLY showing your education.

  • One can only demonstrate their education.

  • i agree dude about age and voice , even Marcia can't hit and do what she use to do .....AGE sux !!

  • i agree but hes still pretty good. better than alot of artists these days. also this video was 06.. not that long ago.

  • i love John Farnham especially this song and his version of it is kickass.. love it and the man himself.. and also love hearts on fire. and two strong hearts.. hes awesome could listen to him sing all day and night..

  • Everyone seems to like John Farnham

  • The piano player is my bro :-)

  • lol powers129,

this was hilarious in hot rod

  • 'Started off super positive then it just got craazy'

  • Screw David.

If it wasn't for Hot Rod I wouldn't know this song.

American Idol is dumb, and wayyy too many shows do that same kinda shit now =/

  • The chorus is wonderful. I love this song...

  • he sung it the best

  • Awesome song. I am a huge fan of John Farnham and this would have to be my fave song of all time from his album.

  • the riot part where this song plays in hot rod is so hilarious!

    idol sucks! die david!

  • it is because of david archuletai am listening to this song

  • If it wasn't from Archuleta, I wouldn't know this song at all..

Thanks David.. I love this song..

  • OMG I can't believe he came to NZ in 06 and I missed it!! Did he only play at North Harbour?

As for you idol David fans, piss off. This man is the true hero, that prepubescent boy has nothing of a voice compared to this guy!

  • John also played in New Plymouth and Christchurch

  • I've been a fan of John's for about 25 years or so, but that's rare in the US. It's not disrespect for people to like David Archuletta's singing "You're the Voice", John is really just not well-known in the US. John chose to spend the bulk of his career in Australia, so don't get upset with those that don't know him. Once they DO get the chance to hear that phenomenal range, believe me, they will be HOOKED!

  • I will definitely be looking for a copy of the CD of John Farnham's Whispering Jack, and if there is a live album with this song on it. The only other version that comes close is Heart's, but is it still a very distant second place.

  • I have always loved this song. I was only 12 when it came out. I though David did a wonderful job on the song. But of course nobody's version can beat John's version.

  • i wouldn't know about this song if it wasn't for TV

  • david archuleta im so glad he sung this song!

    david<3

i think hes gonna win! (my opinion)

  • too bad he lost!! hahahaha america always chooses the worst person to win.

And he murdered this song compared to johnny. I mean it was pathetic in comparison -.-

  • About time the US recognised this man, his voice is beyond belief. A true Master of his craft. This song makes you believe you can do anything, that you belong in this world, that you matter in the Universe. I wish I was there that night. Come back to NZ Johnny, I will not miss your concert a second time, I swear!

  • I hope David wins American Idol! I liked that song

  • david fucking sucks booooo

  • I've posted a slideshow with Chris Thompson's updated version from his album, Rediscovery here:

    /watch?v=tg9xjJqqhy0

    Mrs Andy Q

  • wow. the united states just relized b/c of david archuleta this dude. and now my every one wants the cd. i love this

  • supereclipse-- that is true! Most of the people here haven't heard of this song until now. I love this song, thanks to David <3

  • Regardless of whose version you may think is best, this is a great song with a great message that most of us in the US had never heard before Tuesday night. We all owe David Archuleta a huge vote of thanks for bringing it and John Farnham to our attention.

  • ..really?

Wow, the US missed out something fierce.

Pretty sure he's been singing it since the mid to late 70s.

I saw Farnham singing it live at a concert for the Aussie peacekeepers in East Timor, and it was beautiful.

  • Isn't John FANTASTIC!!!! (And how many 'last of ' concerts has he had yet! But no wonder.

  • i heart david archuleta

  • i heart david archuleta

  • david archuleta ROX!!!! this song is starting to grow on me :)

  • DAVID WAS AMAZINGGGGGG!

  • Please remember that David is only 17 years old and has 90 seconds on stage. He does a great job with what he is given.

Shame on his handlers for choosing this song for him. I agree with Paula that David could sing the phone book and be good.

    John Farnham is THE MAN!!!

  • david chose the song. not his "handlers"

  • then it's a lesson well learned for him...

  • i liked his song. i thought he did a great job. i don't know why everyone has a problem with it. people are only being influenced by what simon said. if he had agreed with randy and paula and said it was amazing then no one would have had any fault with it. people need to learn to think for themselves. that's one of the reasons i hate the judging on American Idol. first simon tells him to lighten up, then when he does, simon doesn't like it. it's soo annoying...

  • I agree! It's like the childhood game "Simon Says". David has broung attention to a great song with a great message. He is using his talent to bring attention to issues that are still relavant.

    *********Go Boy Wonder******

  • Oops I meant brought, pardon my ebonics.

  • Thats because...in a way...Simon knows what he is talking about. It was not bad, but David def made if have that "feeling" of "fun" which I guess is good and bad.

  • yeah, well that's basically what simon asked for. And david was just putting his heart & soul into the song & just really feeling it. that's exactly what the judges tell all of the contestants to do every week. He wasn't thinking about it. he was just feeling it. that's one reason kady malloy was voted off. she was thinking about "how she should be" instead of just "being". well david was just "being" & really feeling the song. that made me really feel the song too, just seeing how into he was.

  • im sorry..im a fan of david's and all, but he just murdered this song... after hearing the original (this is the first time i heard it) i feel embarassed for him... now i know what the song is about, i just wish he'd sung a different song. BRAVO to John Farnham!

  • Simon was on mushrooms tonight. David was great!

  • I thought the Aussie guy (forgot his name) was the best last night. Davids was still good though.

  • Okay so when Simon says this sounds like something at Disney.. well, it is like slapping this guy in the face.

  • I think Simon was saying that David's version was the Disney version. And it was!! he is too young to sing such a powerful song - vocally and emotionally. he was smiling and bopping around!! This is an angry "what's wrong with the world" song.

Anyway, no one should ever try to sing this song. There is only one man that can do it justice. John Farnham is a seriously underrated vocalist. He is a magnificent singer. David is just not in that league yet...

P.S watch the proper video clip!

  • david is too young to sing such a powerful song vocally and emotionally? is that why he made american stop and listen to him when he sang Imagine? david is a very powerful and emotional singer. please do your research before you bash someone!

  • THIS SONG IS GREAT!!!!

  • THIS SONG IS GREAT!!!!

  • im from auckland and this song is awsome

  • i was in auckland it'll be two years ago in december, your country is absolutely beautiful!!!! I stayed in takapuna!!! I Loved New Zealanda So Much!

  • Why isn't there more music like this around today god only knows fantastic song fantastic voice!and how the hell do you mike up a bagpipe anyways?

  • Live or in studio, John Farnham IS the voice! A long life to him and his wonderful music! :)

  • the crowd needs to have fun no matter how badly they sing

  • 1. that's a matter of opinion. 2. what, they wouldn't have fun not singing?

  • you mean to tell me if you here a song you like u jus stand there, i dont think so u sing

  • The title of the song is "You're the Voice", not "I'm the Voice". He's speaking to an audience - and if the audience what's to use their voice - then awesome - They get the message of the song.

Music has meaning - just in case you weren't aware.

  • go ahead everybody, get your panties in a bunch because of a joke. you spend so much time and energy on responding to a stupid comment, maybe if you spent half as much time concerned about the assinine war we fight or the rising crime rate here, or basically just on things that MATTER...

as far as music, i'm a musician, dj (w/my own radio show), composer, and producer. i have over 1000 cd's with everything from guy lombardo to paul oakenfold, so...what do you want to "teach" me about music?

  • he sounds just as good as he did when he first wrote the song

  • He didn't write the song.. But you're right, sounds awesome.

  • *John Farnham did NOT write the song. My husband, Andy, our friend, Chris, and Maggie Ryder and Keith Reid wrote it. It's been covered many many times, but John had the biggest hit with it, by far... :)

  • Well.. Kudos to those close to you that had the vision to write such a passionate song! I can tell you this, Davids choice certainly made the world take notice and I am betting that we will see folks all over looking for the lyrics and wanting to know more about the songs origin! We are experiencing coutnless episodes of violence in our neighborhoods in Pittsburgh in the past few days and this song keeps coming to mind when neighbors ask what we should do to fight it! Thanks!

  • the pnly annoying part is that girl shouting "whooo" all the time ... :(

    LOVE that song!

  • I heard John in Aucland at a telethon on the City Waterfront about oh dear at least 16yrs ago. Awesome performer and great to have enjoyed many of his songs over the YEARS !

I would recommend this song as a personal challenge and anthem to be The Voice.

God knows He has you here to use it...wisely!!!

Thank you John for using your singing talent.

  • WAITING HIM FOR THIS SONG IN GREECE

  • He sounds great live aswell!! Love this song!!

  • He is ...really ...the voice

  • I agree with you. John Farnham has the same good voice he had 20 years ago! A long to Mr. Farnham, who is indeed... the voice!

  • To je to!

  • Good voice, great song, ... pitty no close-ups

  • Please help me: are there any recordings of John Farnham´s performance of Jesus Christ Superstar?? I´ve never seen any...

  • There is a live performance of him singing Gesthemane on here somewhere. And I think you can also view "Everything's Alright" with Kate Cebrano and John Stevens.

  • Thanks for the emotions....

  • this is mine and hubbies song, never saw john live here in uk, wish he would tour here

  • it´s great!!

stunning and awesome! he sounds so powerful!!

  • After all these years, he still sounds awesome
