Oscars, being very intelligent, have complex communications in comparison to other fish I've had in aquariums. The vibrating is just a way of one communicating tension. It can be applied in different situations, including "smack-talking" and romance.
this is breeding this is jaw locking what a male and female do before mating when i had oscars mine would do this , male oscars can show lots of aggression to each other often smashing against each other causing damage to the scales only ther are very hardy fish , the most intelligent too try adding a ping pong ball and watch !!!!!!!
this could be breeding cause my oscars use to fight like crazy and vibrete like that and idk what it ment till they had babies butid seperate them if it gets to out of hand but they can hold there own there strong fish
They look like they still have some growing to do before it's a real possibility but yeah...she's checkin him out to make sure he's strong enough to be a mate....my female red always initiates this type of lip lock...
i think its breeding behaviour. Tail slaps and lip locks are all apart of breeding with cichlids. I have a pair of green severums that do that and there breeding.
if all oscar's faught like that to any cichlid's!! am sure it's da toughest and strongest in all of cichlid fish!! even jag, butti's,RD will get there ass'ess kicke'd out!! ayt??
If they were fighting, they wouldn't keep swimming with each other afterwards - they may be getting ready to spawn. Have a look at my oscar youtube video, similar behaviour and they've just laid eggs. When these fish 'fight' and it's not for breeding, you will end up with a lot of damaged scales and potentially one dead oscar : )

Usually that is a sign of aggression. My oscar does that to the other fishes in my tank, but they don't want to mess with a 7 inch oscar.
