Tobin tax is just unfair because trading is a zero sum game. No money is created during trading. It moves from 1 pocket to te other. Even a small tax of 0.1% of the underlying value would cause complete market caps of companies to be drained from the market in only a few years of trading. If all shares of a company are traded during a trading day then 0.1% of the entire market cap of that company leaves the market. In 10 days 1% in 3 years 100%. This money leaves the markets.

We do have a constitution it just isn't one document. In fact the most important doucments of our constitution, Magna Carta and the Bill of Rights were the inspiration for the US Constitution.
We did have a a right to bear arms too. One mass shooting at an elementary school was about as many mass shootings as the public were prepared to accept though.

The Labour Party outlawed fox hunting because it wanted to pick on the Conservative toing countryside folk. It was a bit of class warfare.
And until 1997 it was legal to own a firearm. It still is but you need to a license and even then it's usually only for farmers or sport shooters.
And the reason you laugh about our constitution is because most constitutions are just one document. The US could start from scratch with just one. Ours evolved over a much longer time.

From 1997 virtually all handguns bar those of pre-1917 designs, muzzle loaders, starting pistols and pistols of unusualy designs (prototypes etc) were banned in mainland Britain. In Northern Ireland, gun ownership is still quite common however and they give out firearms licenses on a regular basis.

As to what types, after 1988 virtually all rifles, military weapons, pump action shotguns and such were banned from civilian ownership due to a nutter walking round a town massacring people with a semi-automatic AK-47. After that and before 1997 you could own certain types of pistols. Then a man shot dead 16 children with one so they banned them too.

As to who could own a gun? Well anyone with a firearms license. Usually convicted criminals were barred from these but other than that I don't think there are any other restrictions on obtaining one other than the reason you're getting it (farmers use shotguns for vermin control for example).

The UK is joint 39th with Denmark.
And ever since 9/11 airport police have carried firearms as do police officers guarding other such areas like railway stations, Westminster, nuclear powerplants etc.
The majority of officers don't carry a firearm. If they need help they call for a firearms unit.

The "A"mericans gave England warships before their entry into WWII. This violated America's neutrality and justified Germany's sinking American ships.
As for Iraq, the two big benefactors of the war (measured in petroleum) are BP, then China (no doubt a concession for their continued purchase of Amercian junk Treasuries). Exxon-Mobil has only a small token peice of Iraqi oil.

Oh you're right the US, Canadia and Empire as well as many brave Eastern Europeans died to destroy Hitler. I was just moaning that within Europe, the contribution of the UK seems to get ignored. I'm sure those other nations would feel the same if they were in the EU too.

Perhaps that is why, when both Germany and Russia simultaneously attacked Poland, Britain and France declared war on Germany, but ignored Russia. Additionally, Russia attacked Finland (and got its butt kicked, until the overwhelming size of their army prevailed).
Many agree that the first and second world wars were really one conflict, with the disastrous war reparations placed upon Germany after WWI guaranteeing WWII.
