Hidden Blade. Good movie. The movie gets its name from this technique the character used. It was a last resort against a more capable fighter. you anger him so as to distract him, then you create a huge opening and at the last moment you strike when he least expects it. its based in true kenjutsu strategy even if the technique itself is a bit more showy than I would feel comfortable using. doesn't detract from the movie itself though.
@Bigboss5 The Hidden blade was the blade he used against Chief Retainer Hori, that technique was called "The Devil's Claw". The technique featured in this clip was never named in the film at all.
It is a hidden technique, in that the man in the blue hakama(trousers), hid his intent to defend himself, in the way he did. His attacker did not know what method of defense the defender would use. Therefore, it was a hidden technique.
No problem. If you look at the feet of the defender and the position of his sword near the end of the film, he seems to be hiding his blade, setting up for a possible gaidan strike and then he turns it into a chudan strike. A strike within a strike.
People'd call it the way they want to call it because they don't really know about it. There's nothing "hidden" about this technique, it's just "1st grade" Kenjutsu, In Budo, we don't plan out techniques in a fight, we do it at the seat of the moment..
If you are referring to me as being one of those people who do not know about it this, then you are mistaken. The term "hidden" refers to the fact, that the defender disguised his intent from the attacker, with the end result being, that the attacker was caught unawares, did not see the response and was unable to respond properly. A hidden technique,is one which is not seen. I am aware that we do not plan our attacks or defenses in Budo. The responses are natural and instinctual
Don't use 'we' because I'm pretty sure you're not a Budoka. Just as sure that everything you've just said is just an assumption which you think is fact. I know that because I've always come across yobs (in real life) thinking they know everything about something just by making up facts from ignorant observation. In other words you're amongst those types making up stuff just from aesthetic observations..
That's all you've got to back up your dumb ideas? Lame! Practicing Budo included studying the techniques, not just training. Seeing as how you don't know that, I'm sure you're just another internet fake..
i will have to agree with you on the comment you put. you can study or work on all the moves technique we wand but when it comes to a real fight ..we do it at the seat of the moment
It looks like a combination of Nihon Kendo Kata nº6, nº4 and nº7 :O Pretty cool!

It is just plain and simple hard core training. But nice use of the fancy words.

It is indeed a great Technique,From such a guard you are left wide open and to the foe he assumes you are vunerabaly open to attacks.
