The depth and variety of music that came out of this mans spirit continues to blow my mind!........... reguardless of how many times I've heard any given piece, when you hear and see stuff like this, you realize just how deep the vision was..........because........''we badly need some new ideas''........Run fast and free Gil.......
mannn this puts a smile on my face I wouldn't even believe. It is a sad but telling thing that this inspirational person died with crack as his only friend.
Rest and Peace to all the fans of this music. Lets try to not alienate any another person in need, because trying is all we can do.
Been hearing the Brotha for only 1 1/2 years and just looked up this video to see what the God looks like. Now I will go through his archive. Already a fan. Brother Gil have a great journey and transition to the cosmos. Look forward to knowing through the music that keeps you here. HOTEP Brotha! !
@ronmamita but let's not forget that GSH had a clear politically critical stance til the end. Unlike Hancock who became a Buddhist and suffers from the illusion that this 'belief' (which historically has always felt very comfortable with political power) will remove him from capitalist logic. GSH has always been political, straightforward, funny, real, and very critical of capitalism. He was one of my heroes.
When all the others sold OUT, when the others arms got tired and they put down their clenched FISTS, when coins, tell, N Pro wore them down to Amatuers.... and the kitchen was hot as a straightenin' comb.. Gil-Scott didn't give up Remember him, cuz the rest of us livin' LARGE... cuz of bruhs like HIM. Believe dat he's Still... wearin' FRO's and fist pumpin' for Freedom and Flight not birdies....
So true..........we have lived amongst legends of there crafts much love and respect to all. And there are plenty more to appreciate while they are here.
The music, the voice, the talent and a handsome Brother too . Indeed he will be missed. I have almost everyone of his albums. Even the one out of print-Secrets! Love you the most Gil Scott Heron.
@ronmamita ♫ Over the past 5 days, when I mention Gil's passing, the reaction is either blank stare "who is he?" or emotional outpouring. I was impressed when someone half my age recited Gil's words. To know him is to ♥ him.
3 weeks before he died, I went through all my GSH handwritten lyrics and chords compiled way before the internet existed. I was planning a series of tributes, but now they will also be memorials. #1 Pieces of a Man- in a few days-stay tuned ☮ Squirehogg ☯

@hsdscsds I'm still mourning and still crying. His words touched my soul deeply. He was like family. The one who will speak the truth unabashedly and unapologetically. Pure genius!! It will never happen again. RIP my beautiful brother. You are definitely missed.
Rest in Peace Gil. One of my all-time heroes. I grew into a man listening and wanting to be like GS-H. Thank you for opening my musical and political eyes and teaching that the two are not mutually exclusive.
I've always remembered the spirit of one particular Gil quote that I heard 20 years ago in an interview. Sorry if its not exact, "I'm neither poet, musician, or artitist, these are just the tools a sensitive man uses to express himself."
One of my favorites from a long list of favorites. Rest in peace, Gil. You taught this Colorado cowboy so much about a world he never would have known about without you. Your spirit will live on in your music.
Chuck Norris saw Gil Scott Heron, bowed to Gil, shook his hand and said "Thanks for the wonderful music you have given us." After that he got Gil's autograph , got a high five and watched with tears in his eyes as Gil walked into the sunset.

@onelovega Gil's poem was referring to the legendary Detroit Jazz Bassist "Ron" Carter; but before all that, in the intro he gives thanks to the great saxophonist "Ron" Holloway playing with him on stage.
One thing about my account: I post vids for my experience and hope to share freely so that others may experience some joyful insights too.
I find myself coming back to this tune all the time... That bass solo is one of the best solo's i can think of hearing... simply amazing phrasing and the tone is out of this world...
