I've played both, and they are VERY different games. I love both of them; WoWs immenseness and humour, but also Guild War's gorgeous graphics, and how you can really get sucked into the story line.

I really don't think you can compare them. Guilds Wars is quite old now, so really you have to wait until GW2 comes out to compare them properly. I admit Guild Wars graphics are insane for how old it is though - Wow looks nothing like it's cinematic, though with GW it could have been taken ingame.

Its easy to see why WoW has such a big audience, if you show a bunch of little kids a cheap cartoon and then show them quality piece of art of course they will watch the cartoon instead. Guildwars holds a more mature community then WoW ever will. Unfortunately people have to grow up and get jobs instead of playing games all day. Therefore the gaming community is dominated by people under the age of 18. All I can say is wait for GW2 then we can talk.

GW's Payment system isn't ideal but it's better than WOW. I think you pay for the login name and that's it. WOW requires a monthly payment (the ideal is absolutely free in case you are wondering)

The ugly truth is that World of WarCraft raped the lore of WarCraft. And there's no denying in it: almost every single character that had had fans from previous series (w3) were discustingly placed on low status of mob (like illidan, arthas and many more. Including the fact that w3 heroes were turned into low level killing trophies. I especially hated that part.)

WoW´s for PvE only. GW`s lore is growing, but still the main part stays at the Competitive PvP, which is pretty adorable.
