the chevy volt is not an electric car it is a crappy hybrird the toyota prius gets any where from 45-72 miles per gallon add an additional battery pack and you can get up to 150 miles per gallon. chevy volt gets 25-40 mile range and only gets 30 miles per gallon. My electric bill last month was $80.81, adding the Leaf in would take me up to $106.98 or an equivalent of a 32% increase on my electric bill, but hey I'm not paying $146.40 per month in gasoline for a savings of $120.23 per month!

For cross-country trips, the 37 MPG gas engine will be used. Best of both worlds. The Volt is a fun car to drive as well, with great handling. The fact I'm not sending dollars to other countries for oil? Winning!

There are electric cars on the market that can go more than 200 miles on a single charge. The technology exists to get more than 500 miles from a single charge but they will never allow that technology on the market. The have been suppressing the electric car for over two decades now.

We have a cute electric car in Bangalore. India called the Reva which costs only about 5000 dollars and it's great for running around the town - couple this with solar energy and you have a cheap green alternative. People with long road trips to make could always use petrol or diesel but the town electric car would go a long way to reducing our dependance on expensive oil and dangerous nuclear power with waste spent fuel rods that are poisonous to humans FOREVER and just keep increasing in nos

When you charge the vehicle, where do you think the energy comes from that's supplying the charge? It comes from a coal burning or nuclear power plant... Just sayin'...

the volt is a series hybrid with a large battery, at highway speeds the engine drives the front wheels, the only real electric car is the nissan leaf

The Volt's gas engine only help drive the wheels only when the battery is depleted. Even then it's only at speeds greater than 70mph. The engine is still generating electricity for the main electric motor. The Volt's design does no allow the gas engine to drive the wheels by itself. The main electric motor has to provide power as well. The Volt only has a 82 hp gas engine, but weighs 3700lbs. It has 149 hp of electric motors. Which one do you think power it most of the time
