I tried to look up the verse Brian quotes, "Let the poor say I am rich" and it's not in the Bible. It's a line from one of his lead singer's songs from his church, Reuben Morgan! I guess if you can write a hit seller, it becomes up there with Scripture!
How to be poor! Learn how to be poor and then be criticized by people because you are christian and poor....No, let's learn how to have money and then be criticized by people anyway.
In the description you wrote that 1Tim 6:10 says that "money is the root of all evil" but the verse actually says (at least according to google and my bible) that "money of the root of all kinds of evil" not all evil.
The New International version does, but the King James Version says:
1 Timothy 6:10 For the love of money is the root of all evil
You can interpret the bible in many ways-how else could you convince whole churches that wealth is righteous and sickness is sin-all things non biblical- but if you say it with enough passion-it's easy to convince people who don't want to be bothered to actually read the bible
I don't know if the NIV is more accurate..But I do know you don't need more money
@hillsongchurch Oh, thank you. It's kind of confusing that different translations say different things to be honest, but I definitely agree about people not needing more money!
Having a life with great family and friends around you is the real rich!! how many people on this planet have 1 million in their bank but are unhappy! money doesn't do everything
No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon. Matthew 6:24
The call to sell everything to the rich man was a test for love of money. It is not a sin to be wealthy if you are obedient to God with your wealth. Ie "all things are possible with God"
Joseph from Arimithea was a follower of Jesus and the tomb of Jesus would not have available for God's purpose except through his wealth.
@AMTattersall Evidently this must be true because those who generally are more religious, overcharging the same people they would underpay doesn't seem to bother their conscience.
They will goto heaven providing they don't read Mathew 19:24 which contradicts what you're saying
@robvlob May God bless you with understanding. After 19:24 Jesus says “With man this is impossible, but WITH GOD ALL THINGS ARE POSSIBLE”. This is shortly followed with a promise that everyone who has left houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or children or fields WILL RECEIVE A HUNDRED TIMES AS MUCH AND WILL INHERIT ETERNAL LIFE.
Other Gospels clarify this statement as “in this lifetime” and “with persecution” such as this video. The Bible is more than one verse. God Bless
@AMTattersall ".....The Bible is more than one verse. ...." Yeah I know the whole passage titled "the rich young man"(Mathew 19:16 - 29) deals with the correlation between ones possessions & getting into heaven. Which clarifies the point I was trying to make some wealthy religious people have no conscience about screwing people out of money, I guess for some when it comes to screwing people out of money they don't ask themselves WWJD
I challenge all who watch this video presentation and read the commentary to read ALL OF THE VERSES particularly Luke 18:29-30.
(NKJV) Luke 18:29 So He said to them, "Assuredly, I say to you, there is no one who has left house or parents or brothers or wife or children, for the sake of the kingdom of God, 30: "who shall not RECEIVE MANY TIMES MORE IN THIS PRESENT TIME, and in the age to come eternal life."
READ WHAT IT SAYS AND UNDERSTAND!
God expects you to give away all if he asks you. Foll
20 And he lifted up his eyes on his disciples, and said, Blessed be ye poor: for yours is the kingdom of God. 24 But woe unto you that are rich! for ye have received your consolation. 25 Woe unto you that are full! for ye shall hunger. Woe unto you that laugh now! for ye shall mourn and weep
I didn't make this...its an add Brian Houston put on TV to sell his books..it speaks for itself..
as for the douche thingy...coming from someone who films themselves dancing and get 5 views(1 was me) in 12 months...weeeeell you know what I mean...thanks for your comment
@goaliedp what your message again?? thats right its the "I'm so sexy for Jesus"?? message..
It really is not all about you and how it make you feel...passion alone is not enough...there actually is a deep message and a way to Jesus that cannot be simplified into a bunch of clichéd pop songs with the word Jesus thrown in occasionally..
I think i will stick to the old False Prophet ones...much more relevant
GOOD TO SEE THE FACES OF SATANIC CULTISTS.....AND THE GOV BACK THIS MOB......SHOWS WHAT AN EVIL WORLD WE LIVE IN ......HILLSONG ARE A SATANIC FRONT WHO ARE MURDERING OUR CHILDREN WITH THE SUPPORT OF GOV AND JUSTICE IN AUSTRALIA, AND IT IS INTERNATIONAL....G-D HELP OUR CHILDREN !!!!
After declaring a $17.2M windful for the 07/08 tax year with just 2x Sydney based churches. The Hill$ong church has caught the eye of the ATO who want to de-register its "tax free" charity exemption.
10 For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs.
I would be very interested to hear the greater context of that speech and whether or not Mr Houston is actually saying (a.) that all people everywhere should have more money, or (b.) that we as believers should be using our money to help the needy and the Church of God (and hence we should pray for more abundance so that we can be generous, If it is in deed b. then I don't see any apparent problem.
this message is about how money can bless others. jesus christ people. if youre gonna condemn and judge(which you shouldnt do) go to joel osteen... not the church that leads people into worship constantly and shows people the real love of Christ.
God help us in this time. We must have true sincerity and ask the HS for ways to purity. Last night God gave me Joel 3, I know that a reformation is coming tfor hose who humble themselves, confess their sins and turn to Jesus for complete control. These are the end days where people will be lovers of self, giving themselves over to false doctrines and lawlessness of demons. The Lord says Come out of her my people - the door is soon closing for those who diligently seek the Lord.
For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs.
Im sure somewhere in the new testament apostle paul says that he doesnt charge people for the gospel infact he gets a job like everybody else and work his career at making tents. And the people who does charge money for the gospel well thats depend on situation like funding materials types of things for the purpose of gospel. And also god is the god of all things he owns everything hes taketh and hes giveth vice versa.
the bible does not say "let the poor.....rich..." it a modern song... reverends and pastors etc should take responsibility for what they preach, thus when wrong, admit and set records strait..
2 Corinthian 8: 9 For you are becoming progressively acquainted with and recognizing more strongly and clearly the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ (His kindness, His gracious generosity, His undeserved favor and spiritual blessing), [in] that though He was [so very] rich, yet for your sakes He became [so very] poor, in order that by His poverty you might become enriched (abundantly supplied).
You are all entitled to your own opinions I respect that. The guy believes his God will bless him with money let him be. He dares to believe you dare not. Tell me who has faith now? He believes he has a God ready to bless him...is your God ready to do the same for you? How many of you have actually read the book?
Yet another religious charlatan and pickpocket. Also, I wish religious people would stop quoting the bible to me as if it were some source of what right thing to do is. Ask three christians to quote a verse from the bible and they'll give you three different versions, depending on their agenda. They're just making it up, just like much of the bible is made up. And I'd wish they'd realize that verses from the bible do not mean anything to most people, who care little for these superstitions.
I visited Hillsong once. What I witnessed shocked and disgusted me. Brian was talking gibberish and members rolling around on the floor yelling and hissing like snakes.
The new baby Christians who are misled into entering this fold of people need holy people like John the Baptist to expose their lies and deceptive theology and deceptive behaviour!
Keep exposing them, keep going back. If you can help rescue a single soul from this dangerous and deceptive Brian Houston cult, then AMEN!
i couldn't find it but i just remembered it is a verse in a song. besides the fact it is not in the bible "word for word". nothing wrong w ppl declaring by faith to get out of debt, healing, salvation for ppl. romans 4:17 says "even God, who quickeneth the dead, and calleth those things which be not as though they were." we have that same authority being made in His image and being co heirs w Christ. There is power to speak life and death.
It is a very very big deal to say god said something he didn't ..This is exactly what satan did he said ..something simalar to what god said but different ... to demonize people who correct someones error is wrong ..yes people make mistakes but listen to todd feil interviewing brian houston .. these guys can't tell you what the gospel is that's pathetic from people calling themselves pastors / preachers .anyone can slip up .. just not on 5 or 6 poiunts of doctrine in 5 mins
When savior comes I'm sure he will destroy money:-) If u are rich than it means that u take advantage of a (poor) honest. But many rich people don't wanna know that, they just follow a false system. Do u need more than u could eat? Could u live in two houses at the same time? Homeless person is on the streets because of greed. Rich people are slaves of money, poor bastards.
@JohnPaulTarzan Jesus was never an entrepreneur..was he a property developer? was he a ceo chief director of a ;large corporation? was he a motivational speaker? did he leave an estate? If yes to any of these questions there is no reason for jesus to condemn the pharisees..if jesus blood sacrificed for our sins.we owed a debt we never paid and jesus paid that debt we owed..
@newfagscanttrif0rce Well based on the popularised and 'feel good' Christianity it is. Mainstream Christianity is covered by an evil veneer of heretics, false prophets and false doctrines. The funny thing is that I'm not alarmed because it has been foretold already in the "King James" bible. Everything works in favour for the Lord = )
Enjoy seeking for so called prophecy to reassure your pathetic need to seek some shred of biblical evidence. That same book also talks about noahs ark and jonas... Junk myths are junk.
This is all so confusing.. Why would he preach about how to get more money and how its so important inyour lives? Hm.. I always thought we should be content with our lives, and though we are poor economically, we may be rich in other things like love and care. Hm.. i don't know what to think anymore, i've like Hillsong for a long while now.. But a preaching on how to get more money? That's really strange..
Our money that art us feel in heaven, hallow be they name. Thy mansion come, thy wil be fun... Give us today our dayly bently... new idea for a song... Or they can add it to their version of scripture and i wont even charge royalties to use it. All for god right?
Jesus, God`s beloved son died in what can barely be called rags .. and we have to believe wealth and riches are the signs of a blessed child of God ?:S no no i say, let the man who dies robbed and naked in a dark alley way for trying to help whomever was in need be called the blessed one, for he lost his life running straight after Jesus no matter how dark it seemed, not by taking sidecuts of earthly relieve and just hope Jesus would be there somewhere.
Millions are taken in by Hillsong, but Houston won't say where it all goes. If it's invested in property and the stock market - two things that brought the world to near economic collapse - then Houston should be brought to account. The property market has trapped millions in crippling debt and is a bubble waiting to burst. The more I think about Houston, the more I feel there should be an official investigation into his dealings, bearing in mind he has received tax breaks and federal grants
Money can bless can it Houston?Where do your millions go?Who have you blessed? How many thousands could you bless? You have the monetary power to change the lives of thousands of people and accomplish the phenomenal things you speak of in the above 'sermon'. Can you imagine Jesus standing in a field surrounded by dreadful suffering. What would he do if God handed him a bucket of money? Think about Houston!!
He could talk about money all he liked if people knew that every penny his church made went to bless and alleviate suffering. Does this man realize that his millions could save the sight of thousands of people or provide safe drinking water in developing countries. He could sponsor the education of countless children, provide inoculations, the list is endless!! Would a man who really loved God, who had the power to carry out his will live in a plush mansion while millions begged in the street?
Millions earned but where are they spent?Houston's church earns enough money to feed thousands of people and change the lives of thousands more!!But he has buildings to pay for and investments to make!!His church has 20,000 members but he's putting millions of overs off with his blatant worship of money. If I were the enemy I'd be very happy with Brian Houston!!!
What everyone seems to forget is that the Lord and the Apostles turned the world upside down WITHOUT money. The Lord had nothing but a rock to sleep on. When the lame man asked peter for money, Peter said, "Silver and gold have I none but such as I have give I thee, take up thy bed and walk". That is Christianity. The New World Order and Homeland Security already has Christians on the list of undesirables and you are going to lose everything you own very soon. Wake up.
Dividing is the right word mate!! And, do you know what? This man doesn't care! It's a business pure and simple. The money his church is given is not his, it's God's. All that money should be used to bless if you accept his words. But oh no, they want big plush buildings. He's frothing at the mouth in the above sermon. The abject poverty in some places in the world is staggering, can't he see that calling for more wealth in rich countries like Australia is
Of course money can bless, of course money can give opportunity and hope, it stands to reason! But, just how much of the money that Hillsong takes in goes to good causes??That aside for a moment, we live in a world where money and materialism have got us into one heck of a pickle. People are trapped by their mortgages and debts, why can't this man see that anything to do with money these days is bound to make people wary. God is God, focus on that, and on the peace and salvation he offers!
What do you think someone who was really searching for God would think if they were to walk into a church for the first time and hear a sermon like the above?
Try to understand why he preaches this, not HOW he preaches this. God wants us to prosper. But if you have more love for money than for God, He wont prosper you anymore. When God gives you wealth, He will make sure it is not for you alone. You should bless other people with your wealth. Blessed to bless. People only comment negative on this cause they dont understand the message behind it. And I agree, if I would see this video without the mindset of Christ, I also would not understand this
were with Christ and understand it... it is wrong, and wrong to think God will give money to prosper us.... Listen carefully what he says and handle the money issue... he is talking about his god... money makes us happy.. money is blessing me, money gives hope, power to do good(love)... Jesus was, um, not rich, he had to create a mirracle to feed and bless those arround him? the dicciples were, um, blessed, but um, no, not rich? what has changed now days? yes, false teachings...
Hi there brother. When I placed my comment i was thinking more deeply about it afterwards, and yes I can now agree with you. But God gives and take away. And that also counts for blessings. So if you are blessed financially, it is for God and for others. Otherwise money can be become your god. And thats why this preaching represents money as a god. Cause the focus doesnt seem to be on what it means to truely follow Christ. And that is indeed wrong. Thanks and Godbless!
Satan is able to mimic Christ. In II Corinthians 11: 14-15, Paul warns that false teachers will transform themselves into the apostles of Christ. "And no marvel; for satan himself is transformed into an angel of light," Paul says. While the charismatic movement may appear Christ-like to those seeking the truth, in fact it deceives and leads astray. It is anti-Christ, against the Christ of scripture.
Hillsong are desperately poor. And Brian Houston and others of his kind are desperately sick individuals. It will all come out in the end. It's very scary and it's very sad.
I found where! In the book "The Blessing Of Favor" by Kate McVeigh, she also said that "Let the poor say I am rich" is found in Scripture, and she said it's in Matthew 5:3: "Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven."
Yeah, it's not about earthly riches. Jesus here is talking about heaven.
Easy. It is out of a well known and sung song arround the world. perfect for his product selling brainwashing. I bet that his followers will deny this, being so brainwashed. denile is not the river in egypt;-)
Isnt it strange how these charismatic churches pump give tithes and dont rob God when God commanded tithes to be only paid to the tribe of Levi and they are not Levites and then most if not all of these churches have followed the catholic lead by not teaching to keep the commandments example the Sabbath Friday eveing to Saturday evening. and Jesus did say '' keep the commadments and live '' so what word of God do these charismatic churches teach then?
it is not for money, it is 4 us.... theres no reason to critcize hillsong unless u r insecure.. God gave us a spcial talent 2 PREACH aNd TEACH the word of god
Yes, thats what God wants us to do. We should never be insecure and critise non biblical teachings. your reasoning is outstanding.... Go and talk to Mr Robert Lang and Mr. La Vey's sucksessor over these type of teachings...
yeah more money for bigger houses and more holidays and better bigger cars and more fake smiling friends oh and don't forget to take a picture whilst standing next to a poorly clothed half starved brown kid so you can get more donations lol.
you are brain washed.... it is true... when you make a billion, it is easy to make people believe you give geniriously when you give a milion... If Hillsong does not at least give something, they won't recieve so much tax free "bussiness"
I think Pstr. Brian had mistaken "let the poor man say I am rich" as a Scripture rather than as a lyric from a song from Hillsong "What The Lord Has Done In Me".
The Bible says you must talk to Pstr. Brian personally first, get two or three witnesses next, then consider him an unbeliever thirdly if he still did not listen. It's not biblical to destroy his reputation publicly, like what you did here on Youtube. Two sins does not make a right.
if we were in his church, but we have to see what is right and wrong. That is what God expect of us. Hillsong teachings is not of the Bible, sorry, that means it is wrong. NO NEGOTIATION. NO SIN TO WARN AGAINST FALSE TEACHINGS> IT IS SIN NOT TO WARN AGAINST FALSE TEACHINGS. I'm sure mr. brain knows what he is doing....
Many concerned people have attempted to talk to, write to, approach Brian Houston in many ways over many years now. There is no accountability at Hill$ong and no receptivity to correction, criticism or outright protest at the unscriptural teachings that have come from that Chruch. It is scriptural to mark such people and expose them publicly.
@hillsongchurch i couldn't find it but i just remembered it is a verse in a song. besides the fact it is not in the bible "word for word". nothing wrong w ppl declaring by faith to get out of debt, healing, salvation for ppl. romans 4:17 says "even God, who quickeneth the dead, and calleth those things which be not as though they were." we have that same authority being made in His image and being co heirs w Christ. Hey mike..No there is nothing wrong about earning money and using your blessing to help others..but the way I read this is that Houston mis quotes a bible text all to sell his book...a book called "you need more money" ...not to better anyone but just..just to convince you that by giving money to brian houston and his church...you will hit the jackpot and have wealth...total lies and mis interpretation of biblical text...prosperity gospel only benefits those who teach it.
There is nothing wrong in being rich, the problem is when people start caring for money more than they care for God. As many have stated, we need money to do things and we know God will provide what we need but first we must be obedient to him and walk according to his will. The scripture says, "Seek the kingdom of God and his righteousness and the rest will be added" God will make sure we always have what we need, so there is no need to waist time preaching about money and numbers.
Actually it doesnt..this is why I posted it in the first place..These are words from a Hillsong united song which were plagiarised from a poem called "Give Thanks" by Henry Smith ..unlike Brian Houston Im not lying about the bible..but then again I am not trying to sell you something..
@misterjakemczilla you said "you get your FACTS right" if it is a fact then it is the truth.. never in the Bible it is mentioned about let the poor say i am rich..
Now that's just ridiculous. You can't just throw out some claim like that just because they choose to believe and engage in their heavenly language. Search your heart and ask God to reveal to you the purpose of tongues. Don't be so close-minded and quick to throw out the word 'cult'. Not ok.
There is only one gospel. it is in the Bible. Heavenly tonghues translated from original scripture (Hebrew/Greek) is "beautiful words, Beautifull Sentences, Smooth talking in modern day", not non-understandable babble. The appostels spoke in tongues of other countrys to spread the word of God like in Europe (God is practical, thinks of everything) How else did the foreigners understand them?.
You have now been told how simple the true meaning is of that in the Bible, rest is up to you. Unfortunately misleading is used to create wow effect that has only been seen (blabbing) in the 60's 70's or something- none in the day of scriptures, ever.
Wow, again, you are a fool!! Let me explain it as if I was talking to a third grader! If you are poor, or in need of more money you give to God through the church... then God will DOUBLE what you started with! It is simple... and then You can give even more to God!!!
can you please give scriptural reference to what you said? does the bible really say give MONEY? or to just GIVE to the church and you will receive two fold?
I don't believe in prosperity preaching because i don't believe in following Christ to get personal gain on my finances, I follow Christ so that His Glory may be shown to the world, it's all about Him NOT me.
1 Corinthian 16:2 - On the first day of every week, each one of you should set aside a sum of money in keeping with his income, saving it up, so that when I come no collections will have to be made.
thats just the money.... the bib says give cheerfully also!!
First of all you need to look at the context of the verse. It says to put aside something and save it up as he has prospered so that no collections will need to be taken after I come. This is when Paul comes back to the corinth church not Christ. And it also says to put aside and save it up.
Also I can give cheerfully to the poor and those who are in need. And I would love to give to a church who speak the truth not false preachers who use the name of Christ for their own personal agenda.
Is God unable to break the chain of poverty for anyone, specially those that love Him? Jesus looked at them and said, "With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible." It is sad how even Christians are quick to judge the teachings without looking at it from God's point of view - He does want to bless everyone, and He can - if you want - bless you with Money.
I'm not into selling sermons and such - but I certainly am not in the position to judge this guy or anyone for that matter - lest I be judged too. so hopefully we can just try to learn / discern everything and leave the judgement to God.
What does i t mean to judge. Please explain that.
Jesus said by their fruits you shall know them. By knowing who the false teachers and wolves are am I therefore guilty of judging or am simply following the Lords teaching to use their fruits as a means by which to discern who's who in the line up of today's preaching, teaching, evangelizing community?
Titus 1:2 in hope of eternal life, which God, who cannot lie, promised before times eternal;
It is possible to God to lie?
Hebrews 6:18 that by two immutable things, in which it is impossible for God to lie, we may have a strong encouragement, who have fled for refuge to lay hold of the hope set before us:
Ha ha. Yeah I came to this one too. But I guess the 'tense' in which Jesus meant it would suggest no good thing as opposed to sinful thing of which lying is a sin and one of the main characteristics of His enemy the devil - the father of lies.
Fucking sad twisted prick. Not even a consensus of atheists would stoop to that way thinking. Who are these desperate people giving him the time of day?
Let us say this Jesus guy was the son of God (which is bullshit anyways), he certainly would not have had time for this waste of space.
lies, God is all you need. we can't make our selves more capable of serving God. He'll use who ever He wants. He uses 13 year old little boys to be kings of nations. He uses the weak to lead the strong. You don't need money. the only thing you need is not a thing but a person. God. You don't need anything but God and that's it. for it's easier for a camal to go through the eye of a needle than a rich man to go to heaven. If God wants to use you, He'll use you regardless if you have money or not.
Can anyone tell me this: if God is the same yesterday today and forever, and in the Old testament He gave people the ability to accumulate wealth, and not only that, but generally whenever someone was in the will of God (minus maybe prophets) He generally blessed them with riches and honor (see the story of solomon), why would he all the sudden say,"My bad...now you all have to be poor,"?
Did I never said we have to be poor? I'm saying that God will use who ever He pleases. I'm saying that money isn't everything. Because if what this guy says is true, then poor people are less useful than rich people. That is false.
Yes God is forever the same, but people are not. Since Christ died for us, the whole thing about wealth changed. He said to follow Him. Christ did not come rich. He came humbled and saved us all. We don't require money. That's the bottom line. We just need Christ.
Yes we have the ability. But why waste time trying to become rich in this world? The riches and blessings we receive in Heaven are far greater than anything that this world has to offer. Give everything to God and we will have everything. God is everything, and He is all we need. So if we have God, what else are we lacking? We don't need money. We only need God.
This world will fade, money will fade, everything in this world will fade. But God will never change, like you said. So what's the point of becoming rich when it's just going to fade away like the rest of this world. All we need is God
Here is the truth about the Houston empire. There was a revival amongst our Maori indigenous people in 1958, 1959 in the Waiomio valley. It happened by God's Spirit alone. Frank Houston, Brian's father had just started the AOG movement here in NZ. He said "Someone had better go and teach these poor Maoris something. HE WENT AND THE SPIRIT WAS QUENCHED. It was the death of the revival amongst our people.
15 years ago Derek Prince & others warned the AOG movement to repent or their candlestick would be removed.
Brian Houston you have a hangover from your dad's party. You are still drunk with wine. Weep in hell you drunkards between the porch and the altar. A humble and plain people are coming out of the gutter low and they will extol His love more than wine........ REPENT FROM 'DEAD WORKS" FOR THE DAY OF THE LORD HAS COME!!
And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather REPROVE them.
Revelation 2:2
I know thy works, and thy labour, and thy patience, and how thou canst not bear them which are evil: and thou hast tried them which say they are apostles, and are not, and hast found them LIARS.
The Houstons Ninevah is called HILLSONG The only sign that shall be given to Hillsong is the sign of Jonah REPENT.
I do agree with most of what you're saying, shakedown. Of course there are mortal advantages to wealth and money. However, I believe that the faith community has made it impossible for God to call someone to poverty for the sake of His name, simply because we now think, "God would never call His children to live such a horrible life." The abundant and fulfilling life is one that is sacrificed for the good of His kingdom, and without a surrendered heart, God has little use of your money or talent
I agree. Americans in particular tend to look at other Christians outside the US and see their poverty and immediately presume that they are better Christians because they have more money, though for the most part, I've found the opposite to be true because when you rely on God for everything, your relationship tends to be more defined. It's tough to say whether hillsong is anything other than they appear. The real question isn't what are THEY doing, but what are WE doing.
Sorry, had to laugh a little at the beginning of this video. I'm against the "prosperity movement" with the likes of Joel Osteen that has traveled through congregations like a terminal virus. What does it say about Christianity that Jesus was born in a manger, with barely a bed to sleep in, and died nailed to a wooden cross, dying a criminal's death, with nothing he owned, even the clothes on his back were taken. We've lost focus on how we can fit Jesus's mold, and instead crammed him into ours.
And yet, money really is necessary. The bible says seek ye first the kingdom and all these things will be added unto you. When Solomon asked God for wisdom, God said that he would not only give him wisdom, but wealth, power, and glory as well. We can certainly say that the LOVE of money is the root of evil, but not money itself is not. When Christ speaks of the rich young ruler and says,"It is easier for a camel to go through the Eye of the Needle than a rich man enter heaven...
he's talking about the gate in Jerusalem at the time that was a gate built specifically for men, and the only way for a camel to go through was to go through on his knees. It means that a rich person must be submitted to God and not money, which is a difficult thing. Now I agree that the whole prosperity gospel/name-it-claim-it/God-will-give-u-anything movement is a bit ridiculous, but Christians have a warped idea of how wealth in their lives should work.
Think about this: Reinhard Bonnke is probably the biggest evangelist in the world right now aside from Billy Graham. His crusades generate on average 1-2 million new converts every time he does one. However, they cost with travel, sound, stage, and all the other what-have-you's about $800,000.00/crusade. What would happen if every Christian believed that the only way to true holiness was poverty? How much less effective would evangelism be without wealthy christians?
That said, I think that there is a VERY fine line between being a good wealthy christian and being a miser. Money can be an easy trap to fall into. Look at Benny Hinn. First, he started out humble and had a great ministry. Now he's telling people that if you give him money God will heal you and posting $10,000 for one night in a hotel and getting $1000 steak dinners every night. whatever anyone says, that's basically extortion. I believe it's the heart of God to bless his people financially...
I am hoping this is fake...or even a joke. But it's real isn't it? Disgusting.

Jer 29:11 For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to PROSPER you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.
Prosper definition
To grow; to increase.
To be successful; to succeed; to be fortunate or prosperous; to thrive; to make gain. To favor; to render successful.

I tried to look up the verse Brian quotes, "Let the poor say I am rich" and it's not in the Bible. It's a line from one of his lead singer's songs from his church, Reuben Morgan! I guess if you can write a hit seller, it becomes up there with Scripture!

In the description you wrote that 1Tim 6:10 says that "money is the root of all evil" but the verse actually says (at least according to google and my bible) that "money of the root of all kinds of evil" not all evil.
spogee 3 months ago
Hi spogee
The New International version does, but the King James Version says:
1 Timothy 6:10 For the love of money is the root of all evil
You can interpret the bible in many ways-how else could you convince whole churches that wealth is righteous and sickness is sin-all things non biblical- but if you say it with enough passion-it's easy to convince people who don't want to be bothered to actually read the bible
I don't know if the NIV is more accurate..But I do know you don't need more money
hillsongchurch 3 months ago
@hillsongchurch Oh, thank you. It's kind of confusing that different translations say different things to be honest, but I definitely agree about people not needing more money!

Continued from below...
AMTattersall 8 months ago
@AMTattersall Evidently this must be true because those who generally are more religious, overcharging the same people they would underpay doesn't seem to bother their conscience.
They will goto heaven providing they don't read Mathew 19:24 which contradicts what you're saying
robvlob 7 months ago
@robvlob May God bless you with understanding. After 19:24 Jesus says “With man this is impossible, but WITH GOD ALL THINGS ARE POSSIBLE”. This is shortly followed with a promise that everyone who has left houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or children or fields WILL RECEIVE A HUNDRED TIMES AS MUCH AND WILL INHERIT ETERNAL LIFE.
Other Gospels clarify this statement as “in this lifetime” and “with persecution” such as this video. The Bible is more than one verse. God Bless
AMTattersall 6 months ago
@AMTattersall ".....The Bible is more than one verse. ...." Yeah I know the whole passage titled "the rich young man"(Mathew 19:16 - 29) deals with the correlation between ones possessions & getting into heaven. Which clarifies the point I was trying to make some wealthy religious people have no conscience about screwing people out of money, I guess for some when it comes to screwing people out of money they don't ask themselves WWJD
robvlob 6 months ago
I challenge all who watch this video presentation and read the commentary to read ALL OF THE VERSES particularly Luke 18:29-30.
(NKJV) Luke 18:29 So He said to them, "Assuredly, I say to you, there is no one who has left house or parents or brothers or wife or children, for the sake of the kingdom of God, 30: "who shall not RECEIVE MANY TIMES MORE IN THIS PRESENT TIME, and in the age to come eternal life."
READ WHAT IT SAYS AND UNDERSTAND!

He could talk about money all he liked if people knew that every penny his church made went to bless and alleviate suffering. Does this man realize that his millions could save the sight of thousands of people or provide safe drinking water in developing countries. He could sponsor the education of countless children, provide inoculations, the list is endless!! Would a man who really loved God, who had the power to carry out his will live in a plush mansion while millions begged in the street?
swift12y 2 years ago
Millions earned but where are they spent?Houston's church earns enough money to feed thousands of people and change the lives of thousands more!!But he has buildings to pay for and investments to make!!His church has 20,000 members but he's putting millions of overs off with his blatant worship of money.

God is God, focus on that, and on the peace and salvation he offers!
swift12y 2 years ago 3
What do you think someone who was really searching for God would think if they were to walk into a church for the first time and hear a sermon like the above?
swift12y 2 years ago
Try to understand why he preaches this, not HOW he preaches this. God wants us to prosper. But if you have more love for money than for God, He wont prosper you anymore. When God gives you wealth, He will make sure it is not for you alone. You should bless other people with your wealth. Blessed to bless. People only comment negative on this cause they dont understand the message behind it. And I agree, if I would see this video without the mindset of Christ, I also would not understand this
aikuza 2 years ago
were with Christ and understand it... it is wrong, and wrong to think God will give money to prosper us.... Listen carefully what he says and handle the money issue... he is talking about his god... money makes us happy.. money is blessing me, money gives hope, power to do good(love)... Jesus was, um, not rich, he had to create a mirracle to feed and bless those arround him? the dicciples were, um, blessed, but um, no, not rich? what has changed now days? yes, false teachings...
carelhayden 2 years ago
Hi there brother. When I placed my comment i was thinking more deeply about it afterwards, and yes I can now agree with you. But God gives and take away. And that also counts for blessings. So if you are blessed financially, it is for God and for others. Otherwise money can be become your god. And thats why this preaching represents money as a god. Cause the focus doesnt seem to be on what it means to truely follow Christ. And that is indeed wrong. Thanks and Godbless!
aikuza 2 years ago
Satan is able to mimic Christ. In II Corinthians 11: 14-15, Paul warns that false teachers will transform themselves into the apostles of Christ. "And no marvel; for satan himself is transformed into an angel of light," Paul says. While the charismatic movement may appear Christ-like to those seeking the truth, in fact it deceives and leads astray. It is anti-Christ, against the Christ of scripture.

@hillsongchurch 2 Corinthian 8: 9 For you are becoming progressively acquainted with and recognizing more strongly and clearly the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ (His kindness, His gracious generosity, His undeserved favor and spiritual blessing), [in] that though He was [so very] rich, yet for your sakes He became [so very] poor, in order that by His poverty you might become enriched (abundantly supplied).

@NoCoverT i couldn't find it but i just remembered it is a verse in a song. besides the fact it is not in the bible "word for word". nothing wrong w ppl declaring by faith to get out of debt, healing, salvation for ppl. romans 4:17 says "even God, who quickeneth the dead, and calleth those things which be not as though they were." we have that same authority being made in His image and being co heirs w Christ. There is power to speak life and death.

Well it looks as though I understand this God more than brian does!
He in the end has allowed greed to take over and if god exists - which he doesn't - Brian won't be seeing heaven.

I believe the Bible does say something about the poor saying they are rich. Make sure you get your facts right before put it in a video.
misterjakemczilla 2 years ago
Actually it doesnt..this is why I posted it in the first place..These are words from a Hillsong united song which were plagiarised from a poem called "Give Thanks" by Henry Smith ..unlike Brian Houston Im not lying about the bible..but then again I am not trying to sell you something..
hillsongchurch 2 years ago
The phrase "Let the poor say I am rich" came from a song entitled "Give Thanks" by Don Moen. The lyrics as follows :
And now let the weak say, 'I am strong'
Let the poor say, 'I am rich
Because of what the Lord has done for us' (repeat)
This phrase is not found in the bible, but is an encouragement to the poor that when they have Christ, they are rich.

@misterjakemczilla you said "you get your FACTS right" if it is a fact then it is the truth.. never in the Bible it is mentioned about let the poor say i am rich..

Hillsong speaks in tongues, it's a CULT.
HaRdzstylerR 2 years ago
Now that's just ridiculous. You can't just throw out some claim like that just because they choose to believe and engage in their heavenly language. Search your heart and ask God to reveal to you the purpose of tongues. Don't be so close-minded and quick to throw out the word 'cult'. Not ok.
matthewmoroni 2 years ago
There is only one gospel. it is in the Bible. Heavenly tonghues translated from original scripture (Hebrew/Greek) is "beautiful words, Beautifull Sentences, Smooth talking in modern day", not non-understandable babble. The appostels spoke in tongues of other countrys to spread the word of God like in Europe (God is practical, thinks of everything) How else did the foreigners understand them?.
carelhayden 2 years ago
You have now been told how simple the true meaning is of that in the Bible, rest is up to you. Unfortunately misleading is used to create wow effect that has only been seen (blabbing) in the 60's 70's or something- none in the day of scriptures, ever.
carelhayden 2 years ago
How pathetic.
Jesus said, "It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter heaven."
and this guy is preaching for people to want more money.

Wow, again, you are a fool!! Let me explain it as if I was talking to a third grader! If you are poor, or in need of more money you give to God through the church... then God will DOUBLE what you started with! It is simple... and then You can give even more to God!!!
AUSTINRulezd00d 2 years ago
can you please give scriptural reference to what you said? does the bible really say give MONEY? or to just GIVE to the church and you will receive two fold?
I don't believe in prosperity preaching because i don't believe in following Christ to get personal gain on my finances, I follow Christ so that His Glory may be shown to the world, it's all about Him NOT me.

1 Corinthian 16:2 - On the first day of every week, each one of you should set aside a sum of money in keeping with his income, saving it up, so that when I come no collections will have to be made.
thats just the money.... the bib says give cheerfully also!!
AUSTINRulezd00d 2 years ago
First of all you need to look at the context of the verse. It says to put aside something and save it up as he has prospered so that no collections will need to be taken after I come. This is when Paul comes back to the corinth church not Christ. And it also says to put aside and save it up.
Also I can give cheerfully to the poor and those who are in need. And I would love to give to a church who speak the truth not false preachers who use the name of Christ for their own personal agenda.

Is God unable to break the chain of poverty for anyone, specially those that love Him? Jesus looked at them and said, "With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible." It is sad how even Christians are quick to judge the teachings without looking at it from God's point of view - He does want to bless everyone, and He can - if you want - bless you with Money.
sander71113 2 years ago
I'm not into selling sermons and such - but I certainly am not in the position to judge this guy or anyone for that matter - lest I be judged too. so hopefully we can just try to learn / discern everything and leave the judgement to God.
sander71113 2 years ago
What does i t mean to judge. Please explain that.
Jesus said by their fruits you shall know them. By knowing who the false teachers and wolves are am I therefore guilty of judging or am simply following the Lords teaching to use their fruits as a means by which to discern who's who in the line up of today's preaching, teaching, evangelizing community?
mrlantern23 2 years ago
Not all things are possible with God.
Titus 1:2 in hope of eternal life, which God, who cannot lie, promised before times eternal;
It is possible to God to lie?
Hebrews 6:18 that by two immutable things, in which it is impossible for God to lie, we may have a strong encouragement, who have fled for refuge to lay hold of the hope set before us:
09108573797 2 years ago
Ha ha. Yeah I came to this one too. But I guess the 'tense' in which Jesus meant it would suggest no good thing as opposed to sinful thing of which lying is a sin and one of the main characteristics of His enemy the devil - the father of lies.
mrlantern23 2 years ago
Fucking sad twisted prick. Not even a consensus of atheists would stoop to that way thinking. Who are these desperate people giving him the time of day?
Let us say this Jesus guy was the son of God (which is bullshit anyways), he certainly would not have had time for this waste of space.
What he needs is a bat across the head.
Atheeizm 2 years ago
lies, God is all you need. we can't make our selves more capable of serving God.

Can anyone tell me this: if God is the same yesterday today and forever, and in the Old testament He gave people the ability to accumulate wealth, and not only that, but generally whenever someone was in the will of God (minus maybe prophets) He generally blessed them with riches and honor (see the story of solomon), why would he all the sudden say,"My bad...now you all have to be poor,"?
theshakedown09 2 years ago
Did I never said we have to be poor? I'm saying that God will use who ever He pleases. I'm saying that money isn't everything. Because if what this guy says is true, then poor people are less useful than rich people. That is false.
Yes God is forever the same, but people are not. Since Christ died for us, the whole thing about wealth changed. He said to follow Him. Christ did not come rich. He came humbled and saved us all. We don't require money. That's the bottom line. We just need Christ.
KrnKnockOut 2 years ago
Yes we have the ability. But why waste time trying to become rich in this world? The riches and blessings we receive in Heaven are far greater than anything that this world has to offer. Give everything to God and we will have everything. God is everything, and He is all we need. So if we have God, what else are we lacking? We don't need money. We only need God.
KrnKnockOut 2 years ago

It was the death of the revival amongst our people.
monkeyster1 2 years ago
15 years ago Derek Prince & others warned the AOG movement to repent or their candlestick would be removed.
Brian Houston you have a hangover from your dad's party. You are still drunk with wine. Weep in hell you drunkards between the porch and the altar. A humble and plain people are coming out of the gutter low and they will extol His love more than wine........ REPENT FROM 'DEAD WORKS" FOR THE DAY OF THE LORD HAS COME!!

NO LIAR SHALL ENTER THE KINGDOM OF GOD.
Ephesians 5:10-12

ColdFacedKilla 2 years ago
The real question isn't what are THEY doing, but what are WE doing.
theshakedown09 2 years ago
Sorry, had to laugh a little at the beginning of this video. I'm against the "prosperity movement" with the likes of Joel Osteen that has traveled through congregations like a terminal virus. What does it say about Christianity that Jesus was born in a manger, with barely a bed to sleep in, and died nailed to a wooden cross, dying a criminal's death, with nothing he owned, even the clothes on his back were taken. We've lost focus on how we can fit Jesus's mold, and instead crammed him into ours.
ColdFacedKilla 2 years ago
And yet, money really is necessary. The bible says seek ye first the kingdom and all these things will be added unto you. When Solomon asked God for wisdom, God said that he would not only give him wisdom, but wealth, power, and glory as well. We can certainly say that the LOVE of money is the root of evil, but not money itself is not. When Christ speaks of the rich young ruler and says,"It is easier for a camel to go through the Eye of the Needle than a rich man enter heaven...
theshakedown09 2 years ago
he's talking about the gate in Jerusalem at the time that was a gate built specifically for men, and the only way for a camel to go through was to go through on his knees. It means that a rich person must be submitted to God and not money, which is a difficult thing. Now I agree that the whole prosperity gospel/name-it-claim-it/God-will-give-u-anything movement is a bit ridiculous, but Christians have a warped idea of how wealth in their lives should work.
theshakedown09 2 years ago
Think about this: Reinhard Bonnke is probably the biggest evangelist in the world right now aside from Billy Graham. His crusades generate on average 1-2 million new converts every time he does one. However, they cost with travel, sound, stage, and all the other what-have-you's about $800,000.00/crusade. What would happen if every Christian believed that the only way to true holiness was poverty? How much less effective would evangelism be without wealthy christians?
theshakedown09 2 years ago
That said, I think that there is a VERY fine line between being a good wealthy christian and being a miser. Money can be an easy trap to fall into. Look at Benny Hinn. First, he started out humble and had a great ministry. Now he's telling people that if you give him money God will heal you and posting $10,000 for one night in a hotel and getting $1000 steak dinners every night. whatever anyone says, that's basically extortion. I believe it's the heart of God to bless his people financially...
theshakedown09 2 years ago
Hinn has also said that in the future Jesus was going to appear as an guest on his TV show, Hinn is an heretic nothing more nothing less.
