Use the Prerelease Client and Put in position of original Minecraft.jar . To have a back up of your old one, Just rename it and insert the new client.

Paul, the fathers leave the baby and the mother after half a day (I think) and the mothers stay with the baby forever. I tested this out myself, and as long as the father isn't killed, the mother will protect the child until you kill her/the baby.
