Could someone post an audio recording of "In the Beginning" and the one about asking the Lord for forgiveness where a choir sings and then you hear, "so let us come as little children..turn from the pride of selfishness". His St. Francis peace prayer version is great too! I like all tracks on "Simple Heart"
I was steeped in John's music for many years. Truly a meditative and introspective way to experience the Word. He's my favorite Christian musician. I saw him in Boston years ago with my father's prayer group at the Basilica of St. John. Gifted musician!
God speaks to each of us...often in a way that only we can hear. Why He does this no one can know, but we can be assured that He hears each of our pleas and so should we be comforted knowing that it IS from God the voice we hear. Rest in His arms and all shall be well...that is a promise from Him!
I love this song.. but it's a different version than the one that is on "lover and the beloved". I like this version, but the other version is even better. If you are a fan of him.. find "lover and the beloved.. it's perfect.
That one is excellent! I didn't get the first song until I learned its "Song of Songs" meets the Church as being us within it and it was the bride of Christ that came from him as Eve came from the side of Adam. Please post that song, itself, and The Empty Canvas!
I love John Michael Talbot's music but no longer have any of his music since I ditched my old cassettes. It's nice to be able hear one of his songs after so long. Thanks for posting and btw, nice video.
It's true, the Song of Songs is indeed the source for this, as interpreted in tradition through authors such as Origen and St Bernard. But St John of the Cross made it his own, putting it into a new wisdom tradition!
I recommend his album The Lover and the Beloved, which is his only real 'solo' album, featuring JMT on guitar and vox without any of the orchestrations. Very beautiful!!! Of course, the song gets its real inspiration from the Biblical 'Song of Solomon.' Go read!!!
Have you ever heard his first album "John Michael Talbot"(1976)? Great acoustic guitar work. It was before he converted to Catholicism and has a southern rock feel. I'd call that his first solo album becuase he played all the guitar parts including bass.
You are welcome. I hope to do more like this from time to time in the future. Currently (as probably my profile shows) I've been working on stop-motion filming so I can put together a video presentation of a work of Lewis which I thought would be amusing to make an amateur movie about. What it is I will announce when it is close to being finished and if I think it is turning out well.
The Lord is working in him through his music.

I have always loved the meditative quality to John's voice. Sometimes it feels as though I am falling in love with God while I'm listening.
Thank you for your gift! Jeannemarie

I have Mr Talbot's first two cd's. His second one is called "The New Earth". Both recordings have a Dan Fogelburg quality to them to my ear.
"John Michael Talbot" has a song called "Greenwood Suite" that runs over ten minutes. Very nice stuff

This is a truly inspiring presentation. I have watched and listen a number of times and it seems to get better each time.
