  • @Jhoosier42. name of 1st part is "Marimo no Uta" (まりもの唄-marimo is Spherical

Moss, special natural monument in Akan-Lake inHokkaido.)

  • Thanks for sharing

  • I would like to get a KOTO, so How much is a standard one?

  • In Japan, it could be extremely expensive or fairly reasonable... The cheapest brandnew one is like 400USD. Standard ones costs about 700USD to 2000USD. Since koto are really big (about 180cm), shipping charges may be expensive, if you get one shipped from Japan.

You can find various types of koto and high-grade ones go up to 10000USD and more. I was lucky and got a nice second-hand one in less than 200USD in Japanese auction.

I hope you will manage to get one without much trouble!

  • reminds me of a comment my O-Koto teacher made when asked. (of course her response was in jest.) Aren't these songs about sadness and frustration? Of course. What else is a proper Lady of Japan to do when she is denied sex. She takes it out on the O-Koto.

  • At 3 minutes the song is "red shoes". A song written in early the 20 century. It is about an orphan, a young girl boarding a vessel at the port of Yokohama bound for a family in United States. However due to TB she was denied boarding on the ship and lived out her short life near Osaka.

  • so sad!

so, this is sort of like a medley of various songs then?

  • Simply wonderful

  • It's not 'Sakura'. I wish I'd gotten the name of the song, but my Japanese wasn't very good at the time and I didn't ask.

  • Very nice. Does anybody know the name of the piece they are playing?

  • are they playing "sakura"? never heard a version like this

anyone who is in the niagara falls region, there is a great japanese gift shop in niagara-on-the-lake, ontario called from japan. i just bought a shakuhachi and koto cd there. they had lots of great stuff.

  • So soft, such a gentle sound. Like a calm wind...

I always loved the koto's sound. Beautiful! Thanks for posting this video.

  • quel calme quelle paix quelle sèrènitèe

  • This is so beautiful! Thank you for posting. These performers have amazing talent.

  • ı have visit Nijo-jo.

    It was very nice!

    Georgeous, but comfortable.

  • jouza!!!!!

  • making site in BRASIL, people from all the world sharing experience in instrumental music, come see the favorites...wonderful music, comes directly from the spiritual ...

  • Even in Japan, I have trouble finding cd's with quality koto or shamisen music, no one seems to know anything about the genre. It's almost like Japanese people are embarrassed about it.

  • I once had a koto tape I think I got through Columbia or one of those tape clubs. I wish I still had it. Grateful I could find some here. So relaxing and peaceful. There are New Age shops (crystals, incense, etc.) that should have something for you! Try New Leaf distributors in Atlanta, GA. they have books, music, we ordered from them for store where I worked.

  • GLORIOUS!!! GLORIOUS!!! The music was so beautiful it almost made me cry. Amazing talent.

  • That is really gorgeous music--and live. Sooo incredibly beautiful and sublime! Thank you very much for sharing this glorious music.

  • sometimes the audience can be so absent minded and talk out loud their mundane conversations over such beautiful sharings of amazing talents and music. shame on inconsiderate people, shame.

  • Anyone know where I can get one of those koto's?

  • it depends even in japan is dificult to buy one and carried out, but if you had luck probably in a oriental store or in a giant music store is very difficult I'm still looking for one

  • I've seen a few on eBay, but they always end going for over 2000 moolah. xD Thankies though! I'll try looking!~

  • nice video

  • my favorite instrumend ever. when i first played it, i got shivers

i wish i had more time to practise

  • If you have time to muck around on the internet you have time to practice. If you have time to watch TV you have time to practice. You have a choice to practice or not.

  • thank you practice police. inspiration and listening also must be part of productive practicing!

  • I'm just pointing out that one can always make more time to practice. Someone says "I wish I had more time for..." and I was trying to help person find more time. What we do with our time is a choice unless all we do is work, eat, and sleep.

  • @dulcimoo : thank you for your kind words of wisdom (?). But i don't own a koto, so i can hardly practise. This and other facts you don't need to know. I manage my time as I can, and dancing and acting already needs lots of dedication.

  • @ohimechan Yes ... but as I said... if you [or any person] just wanted to learn for fun 15 min a day could do it.

  • Glad you like it. You should check out some of my other videos, I've got some good Japanese cultural videos, I need to post some more. The yama-boshi (mountain monks) doing a fire festival is good, also.

  • Kawai!

  • Awesomely beautiful!

  • thats just so beautiful....

    It cuts to the soul.

    *shivers*
