This is actually a comment on all the Cabaret videos you have posted:
It looks like an AMAZING production, all the actors are dead-on their characters. I like the minimalistic style, it fits the show far better than the fancy costumes you often see - in my opinion at least. ;o)
Since you have disabled the comments for "Tomorrow belongs to me" (I can see why): this gave me the CHILLS.
Do you happen to have more clips of this production? I would love to see some other scenes!
I also think it's a bit misinterpreted. You can see she's broken down from the very beginning of the song. Nothing changes. No realizations are made. What purpose does the song serve?
Honestly I think all the theatre productions are not as good as the movie interpretation. In the theatre interpretations Sally is having this huge epiphany and realizing everything is lost, and thats it. I feel like in the movie, that Sally realized all that stuff, and still keeps her chin up and sticks to her guns "Life is a Cabaret." It makes the story feel complete and gives it life, and it doesn't quite feel like the end.
Totally disagree on this one. I think musical theatre actors too often forget the "acting" part of their craft. It is why they can't get respect as serious actors. Too many girls take this song and give us theatrics and histrionics rather than solid, layered emotional work. Her interpretation is spot on: just had an abortion, drunk, confused, lost the love of her life...lost in general. Very well done.
I agree w/ calguy... this isn't exaticlly an all-smiles kinda song. I think she could have squeeze more juice outta this song because it's got alot you can do w/ it... but she did indeed do a pretty decent job.
@calguy85 I fully agree with your statement about musical theater actors not being taken seriously as ACTORS because of their "theatrics and histrionics." Although, when it comes to Sally Bowles, yes she has had an abortion and is very confused, BUT what makes her so interesting is her showmanship and her ways of hiding her emotions. Blatantly throwing around this general dissatisfaction with life isn't what Sally is about. She has a pure joy for performing. The character was misinterpreted.
BRAVO! WELL DONE! Nice build! It was so slow-cooked that by the end I was TOTALLY with you! Beautiful beautiful beautiful all around! How nice to see a subtle build to a song so usually misinterpreted and overacted!
Just want to say that this was a wonderful interpretation of this song. I watch some of the other performances of this on YouTube and I think...wow, we captured a very special performance. Good job, Jessica. Other actresses should take note of your subtle choices and what a voice!
she definatly has great pipes but i think she could have projected the emotion that comes with cabaret

I think she could've done more with the song. And it seemed a little misinterpreted in my opinion- but she's got a voice.
