my friend lent me the book when she heard i hadnt read it. i must a love how they use it in the movie. the actual part from the book is when he goes to talk to the man in the house (the once-ler). the rest wasnt there, but i loooove this take on it!

It actually is really close to the book, with the once-ler telling him the story, and the barbaloots that are around the forest. Also he is making the town is named after the stuff the onceler makes out of the trees called thneed. and also, at the end of the story he gives the boy the last seed. Which is shown in the newer trailer. Its about right to the book. But obviously things are added to make it a lengthy movie

Am I the only one upset that this could potentially butcher the greatest story of all time? Sit down with your kids and read the story to them. Let their imaginations bring life to the illustrations. Such a powerful lesson. Hopefully it won't be lost amidst the over stimulation of this movie.

To those of you who don't like it, you're forgetting one important thing: Christopher Meledandri. He executive produced Horton Hears a Who, produced by Blue Sky Studios. They did a great job adapting the story and treating the source material with respect. If Chris does the same for The Lorax, it'll be good too.

Dr. Seuss is rolling over in his grave. The original story focused more on the lorax than the boy who discovered him. The original story was a tragedy not a comedy.... If anyone wants to see the true version read the book or watch the original animated version.

This is literally my favorite Dr. Seuss story. I'm a big fan of the original cartoon movie that they did of this. However, the new version seems very promising. I think they have given it an original back story in terms of the boy having a crush on the red-haired girl and her wanting to see "a living tree" leading up to his journey to find the Once-ler. The only thing that I am a bit surprised at is that they actually show the Once-ler character.
