I'm not the biggest fan of the so-called 'Regietheater' (or Euro-Trash-Productions, as some like to call it), but I'm quite thankful to Mr. Konwitschny, that he actually used this piece of music, which Verdi wrote only to satisfy the Paris audience, to give an impression about Eboli's personality and to make it in this way part of the drama.
