Apart from all the "experts" that abound on YouTube.... A Hellfire is a shaped charge weapon and will leave a "scorch" mark. APFSDS as fired from a main battle tank main gun would leave a penetration which leaves a raised rim where it entered, kinetically.
But hey, I've only grown up around multiple Army Firepower demos and read the odd "restricted" publication. What would I know?!
I'm confused. I know I'm not any sort of an expert, but since there is one hole (from what I can see) in the turret and it appears to be from a latteral trajectory (from what I can see), than how did the USAAF take out that tank? This isn't meant to be offensive, I'm just curious.
@taurospeed I'm going to guess that shipping that to the nearest recycling facility would incur expenses outweighing the going price for plate steel in the middle of the desert.
Several of my fellow Marines and I did the same thing with gear, trucks, and whatever was left around our base. I love the armchair experts who judge what we do over there. Especially based on a :45 second clip.
@tehBLAX Yeah, I've done 2 combat tours in Iraq, one of which was during the 2003 invasion. 1st Marine Division, recipient of Presidential Unit Citation and the Combat Action Ribbon, to name a few. You are obviously an expert on the war. I'd love to hear your thoughts.
I apologize if investigating apparent armored vehicles in the desert offends you, or deviates from the mission you are such an authority on.
@LostHemingway lol now you say you are a Marine? i was looking around for some information 'bout the Marines. Ever since i was 4 i have wanted to be a soldier, the last goal of my military service is Green Beret. I was thinking Marine, once my service is up there i can re-inlist into the Army Rangers, then the Berets. I want to know how long Marine Rifleman training is. Can you help me out?
I think it was a rather unsavory joke on his part.
I enjoyed your video though. I actually want to buy a T-55 of my own someday, mainly because they are cheap and they are everywhere, and are fun to drive off roads :)
yes i am an Iaqi , and i think the russian weapon is crap and bullshit and i hat russia too much cause they alway let down their allies unlike the american motherfuckers that support their allies although i hat america too because they killed my people for no reasons and dont bullshit me by the lie of weapons of mass destructios.
usa supproting their allies as long as they can give to US something - recourses, bases or just to use a state for propaganda, like Sweden during the Cold war
This tank was either taken out by air, or sabotaged in the beginning. Because if you have a look, the barrel from the tank has been clean cut off so someone(s) has been to that site. Alot of other pieces are missing too.
DU rounds are only dangerous, if only inhaled, in a vaporized form. If you are close enough to a DU round in vaporized form, then you are likely dead anyway.
i would guess its there from desert storm1 as it looks really rusted and seeing the shortage of water it could not have rusted so much in five years, and during DS1 ther many tank engagements i believe, dont know for shure i was like 1 at the time xD
there is it only is still in development stage, as ther is a little shortage of money dsign wise, and the T72 and higher still perform rather good in todays conflicts without high tech super high cost not really necessary wstern weapons
When the T-54/55 first came into service it was the best tank in the world, and it had a 100mm gun. However, the South Vietnamese knocked them out with the 76mm gun of the M41 Walker Bulldog Light Tank and of course the 90mm of the M48 Patton.
the t-55 is a poor-man's tank. it was a commercial tank- sales around the globe.
it has medium armor, medium 105mm gun, medium engine. getting a t-55 is the first step into creating your country's tank corp. still it's something more than basic infantry can take. it's a revolution tank- just enough. as i said, its the first step tank.
the only way to bring in some REAL efficiency to this tank is to put on reactive armor, laser sights and an anti-tank weapon. like chinese and russians did.
The ordinance used to blow up that tank is probably more expensive than the actual tank. T-55 is total garbage by modern standards. Iraqis should have at least tried to get some more T-72s.
because they had problems to get advanced stuff-even their T-72s were mostly of poland and not russian-so they developed their own modifications for tanks but it was difficult for them to maintain stuff in the embargo-nevertheless the T-55 (and T-72) was good enough against Iraqs neighbours Tank forces but the few that survived the allied aircampaign,CAS and interdiction had no proper ammo (also the T-72s) to even penetrate M1s while a single hit on iraqi tanks meant a complete loss
@babaveonglu There were no T-72 ever sold to Iraq. Those are their local counterfeit production known as Lion of Babilon made with a few Yugoslav spare parts. It is out of very poor steel. Side tow armor is penetratable by a heavy mashine gun easily.
The title entailed that it was destroyed, nobody said anything about combat. Perhaps you should think before you make a mindless assumption in order to take out you anger at the US for kicking your pathetic little Russia's ass in every way.
I wonder when Putin will start selling the good stuff to his dickhead friend so we can blow somthing up thats worth while. T-55's are just so....retro.

LostHemingway 2 years ago
I wouldn't walk around that, tank penetrating rounds use depleted uranium which could cause some radioactive harm to you.
4jai2brons0n 2 years ago
The health threat from DU is more from heavy metal poisoning than from radiation.

wait so was that tank from when russia was in iraq or was it us the u.s.
mimineachille90 2 years ago
If it got hit by an A-10 with uranium rounds it might be "hot" somewhat from radioactive rounds.
