i movie 06 was my favorite until imovie 09 came. i like 06 mainly becaus of the effects and the theme and you can split the video on a time line

Okay. It is personal preference but I do find that the way HD 6 handles audio is far superior! you can crop, enhance, dub, repeat, copy and paste, and increase or decrease the volume of a clip. You can even extract the audio from a video clip. I use to use it for importing audio from audio cassettes and lp record recordings. It really did a nice job. Thanks for you comparison.

I want to know how I can share my completed project to make a DVD and also back to my camcorder so that I can then make a VHS version. I wa able todo tht with iMovie 2. I haven't used iMovie 06. I would agree with you that Ifind the variety better with Imovie 06 than IMovie08. So why am I trying iMoive 08? Because it was a gift. iMovie'09 gives more than visual possibilities, however old versions iMovie (05,06) have more friendly interface. It is very inconvenient to me to work with the new version of this program.

I totally agree that 06 HD is way better than 08. When I first bought 08 I did not mess with it because I did not have the patience. Well now I have decided to use it and I still do not have the patience and you do not get any extras for all the endless hours you have to spend that I figured out in 4 seconds using 06. Forget 08 it is worthless it really is. I have Final Cut also but am using 06 because for what I am doing it is perfect.

Final Cut is awesome but is not for everyone. It's not what you want to use for compressed video either. For those editing for youtube etc, imovie is what you want.

I think iMovie 06 is better if you use the Slick movie plug-ins, I use both but I can't say I use either more than the other because I barely use iMovie, iMovie '08 is great for uploading to youtube but sometimes iMovie 06 is better.

I use '08 most of the time, as most of the modern camcorders don't work with anything but it. You actually can write plugins for iMovie '08, but nobody does it because it's way harder. I prefer the interface in '08 and I prefer the functionality of '06.

As you said, I think that it all goes back to personal preference. I am considering buying Final Cut Express, so I use '06 a lot more.
